Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).

English/Nat Hundreds took to the streets of Tokyo Sunday to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, Ireland's National day. It's the only non cultural Japanese street parade allowed in Japan. Hundreds of Irish and people with Irish ancestry took to the streets of central Tokyo Sunday to celebrate St. Patrick's day, Ireland's national day. A traditional band set the tone for a day of laughs and ales. But it was also a chance to send home a strong message of peace after the Irish Republican Army shattered the fragile Northern Ireland peace process with a series of bomb attacks on London. St Patrick is thought to have died on March 17 in the year 462, making Ireland's national day one of the oldest. St. Patrick went to Ireland from 5th century Roman Britain. An estimated 900 Ir...

Japanese/Nat Young Japanese have celebrated their coming of age in a bizarre manner. An estimated one point 64 (M) million Japanese were 20 years old on Monday - the traditional age marking the transition from childhood to adulthood. Some of them marked the momentous occasion by immersing themselves into freezing water. It's a ritual known as misogi (me-so-gee), designed to cleanse the body and remove physical and spiritual defilements. According to Japanese Civil Code, young men and women officially reach adulthood when they reach 20. Most mark this day by attending formal ceremonies organised by local governments. But a few hardy souls go further than this. Some young men chose to practise an ice water ablution rite. At a religious shrine in downtown Tokyo, th...

Nikko is a small city in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture, in the mountains north of Tokyo. It’s the site of Toshogu, the famed Shinto shrine established in 1617 as a lavish memorial for Tokugawa Ieyasu, founding ruler of the Tokugawa shogunate, or Edo Period. The shrine comprises the gilded Yomeimon Gate, the main sanctuary set in a cedar grove and the tomb itself. Japan is a lovely country to be visited and we loved to go there again someday.

I can see the older man looking at the younger man.
I can see the younger man looking at the boy.
Over there the older woman is looking at the younger woman.
I can see the younger woman looking at the girl.
'Cause every man sees in the younger man the hope.
And every woman sees in the younger girl the dream.
Everybody lives the pride and passion of the young.
From the womb to the tomb we will remember what it means.
To celebrate youth - celebrate -
those who have it - young ones.
Celebrate youth - celebrate - give them sight.
The future of the world's in the - celebrate -
Hands of children - young ones.
So celebrate youth - celebrate - teach them right.
Looking in a child's eye -
There's no hate and there's no lie
There's no black and there's no white.
I can see the older man
and sometimes in the older man
I still see the young boy burning in his eye.
Locked up here inside our spirit is the child
that we are
hear it.
Some of us will always fear it
and some will heed the cry.
But everybody sees in the younger one the hope.
And everybody sees in the younger one the dream.
Everybody lives the pride and passion of the young.
From the womb to the tomb we will remember what it means
To celebrate youth - celebrate -
those who have it - young ones. . . .
Looking in a child's face -
There's no pride and no disgrace
There's no struggle
there's no fight.
Everybody sees in the younger one the hope. . . .
Looking in a child's eye - . . .
Celebrate youth - celebrate -
those who have it - young ones. . . .
Celebrate youth - celebrate -
those who have it - young ones. . . .
Celebrate youth - celebrate -
those who have it - young ones. . . .
