2016, September. Operation “Scripta Manent”, carried forth by the Turinese prosecutor Sparagna, leads to the arrest of 8 comrades, the main accusation being the creation of a subversive organization with terrorist aims. Along with this, the imputation includes several other attacks, all signed FAI (informal anarchist federation) and FAI/FRI (informal anarchist federation/international revolutionary front). At the present time, six comrades are still in jail and another one is kept prisoner in her own house. In the meantime, inside the Turin bunker courtroom the trial continues at a steady pace. Scores of policemen from several different towns climb the stage of the courthouse, supposedly in order to reconstruct the history of the contemporary anarchist movement. (more…)

To the Court of Turin

Today, as well as for all the future hearings of this trial that sees me accused along with my brothers, sisters, but above all anarchist comrades, I will not give you the satisfaction of seeing my face in a courtroom of this tribunal.

I have never gone to the courtrooms where my funeral was being prepared in the past and I will not do so now!

I am anarchist, individualist, anti-authoritarian and above all I am for the insurrection, which has as one of its primary goals that of destroying places of death like this one and the prisons.

I will not be part of the spectacle set up by a judge who, suffering from hunger cramps, has put himself the payroll of a State that I do not recognize, being a citizen of the world in flight from its borders; I will not be there to listen to his delusions nor wait for the end to hear someone judge me “guilty or innocent.” (more…)

EN/ES/IT – Trial begins for Operation Scripta Manent (Italy)

The trial will begin on November 16th in high security court in Turin prison.

The anarchist comrades Alfredo Cospito, Anna Beniamino, Danilo Cremonese, Nicola Gai will not be allowed to attend the trial in the courtroom, they will be subjected to a video-conference inside the High Surveillance 2 prison sections, where they are held.

The anarchist comrades Marco Bisesti, Valentina Speziale, Alessandro Mercogliano will be allowed to attend the trial in the courtroom, but they refuse to take part in the trial in solidarity with comrades subjected to video-conference.

Call for International Solidarity on 16 Nov – Operation Scripta Manent Trial (Italy)

On November 16th, at 10 am, in front of the high security court in Turin, will be held the first hearing of the trial Scripta Manent, and it will be a long-running case, in which 22 anarchist comrades are charged, and seven of them are still in prison.

The repressive State apparatus accuses a part of the anarchist movement of attacking it with the practices of: destructive direct action against its structures and agents, realization and distribution of anarchist publications, and support for revolutionary prisoners.

The theorem of prosecutor Sparagna is that the positions of accused comrades are isolated and distant from the anarchist context.

It is a blatant attempt to factionalise and confine the anarchism to certain fenced enclosures, legal and interpretative.

We demolish the attempt to isolate these comrades and we affirm that the practices and positions they are accused of, constitute a patrimony of all anarchists and revolutionaries, and we reaffirm our closeness and our solidarity with the defendants.

We make a call to take part in the gathering on Thursday, November 16th, at 10 am, in front of the high security court of “le Vallette” Turin prison, and we relaunch the call for international solidarity with all anarchist, rebel and revolutionary prisoners; in any place and in accordance with the modalities that each person considers more appropriate.

Anarchist Black Cross: Document read out during the 21/01/2017 meeting in Turin (Italy)

As happens any time that power tries to block the path of the revolt that creeps like weeds, opening up cracks and disconnecting the straight secure roads of exploitation and oppression, it is necessary for those who still care about the life pulsating in those weeds to look each other in the eye.

Following the operation denominated ‘Scripta Manent’ we, some anarchists, decided to do a number of meetings. Those held in Pisa and Rome have produced various problematics. But obviously, happening in a context of ‘emergency’, i.e. in response to the arrest of eight anarchist comrades, it was difficult to find the space to go into them. Not for that should we lose the opportunity to find this space and create moments for deeper analysis. (more…)

Leaflet given out in solidarity with the comrades arrested following Operation Scripta Manent (Italy)

On 6th September operation Scripta Manent, coordinated by the Digos of Turin, led to the arrest of 7 anarchist comrades (two of them already in prison) on charges of association with intent of terrorism; another comrade, who wasn’t accused of association, was arrested because ‘material intended to fabricate devices’ was found during the raid on his home.

More specifically, the attacks included in this investigation are: the parcel bombs sent to the CPT [Migrants’ detention centre] director in Modena in May 2005, to the municipal police in Torino-San Alvario and to the police chief in Lecce; the device exploded against the RIS [carabinieri special unit] in Parma (24th October 2015), the parcel bomb sent to Sergio Cofferati (2nd November 2005), the devices against the carabinieri training centre in Fossano (2nd June 2006), the parcel bombs sent to Coema Edilita (a company involved in the refurbishment of the prison for migrants) in July 2006 in Turin, to the mayor of the city Sergio Chiamparino and the director of Torino Cronaca, the devices placed in the Turin neighbourhood of Crocetta (7th March 2007); and the wounding of Ansaldo Nucleare managing director Roberto Adinolfi (7th May 2012), which was claimed by two comrades, is also part of the accusation of terrorist association. Operation Scripta Manent: 6 new arrests and 30 searches for attacks of the FAI/IRF (Italy)

At dawn on September 6, an operation coordinated from Digos [political police] based in Torino led to the search of thirty homes in Piemonte, Liguria, Lazio, Umbria, Lombardia, Abruzzo, Campania, Sardinia and Emilia Romagna, as well as the arrest of six anarchist comrades on charges of subversive association with terrorist aims: Anna, Marco, Sandrone, Daniele, Danilol and Valentina, in addition to the notification in prison for Nicola and Alfredo.

The operation, called “Scripta Manent”, seeks to attribute to a single directing a series of actions in common the claim by the Informal Anarchist Federation, which reproduces the repressive strategies of some earlier as Op. Cervantes and Op. Ardire, and trying to superimpose a membership structure and top-down to expressions of anarchic conflict.

Specifically, the attacks included in this investigation include the explosive packages sent in May 2005 to the Director of the CPT [immigration detention centre] of Modena, the traffic wardens’ barracks in Turin – San Salvario and the superintendent of Lecce [claimed by FAI / Narodnaya Volya], the explosive device against the barracks of the RIS (Italian scientific department) of Parma [24 October 2005 – claimed by FAI / Artisan Cooperative Fire and Similar (occasionally spectacular)], the parcel bomb sent to Sergio Cofferati [2 November 2005 claimed by FAI / Artisan of Cooperative Fire and Similar (occasionally spectacular)], the arsonist device against the barracks of the Carabinieri’s cadets in Fossano [2 June 2006 claimed by FAI / RAT (Rivolta Anonymous and Tremenda)], the
letter bombs sent in Turin in July 2006 to Coema Edilità (company involved in the restructuring of CIE) , the Mayor Sergio Chiamparino and the director of Turin Chronicle [claimed by FAI / RAT (Rivolta Anonymous and Tremenda)], the bombs placed in the Crocetta Turin neighborhood [March 7, 2007 claimed by FAI / RAT]; in addition to other actions also injured Adinolfi [7 May 2012], for which two comrades have already been convicted and have publicly claimed the attack, returns to substantiate the crime of association. The attorney of Turin appealed the sentence in the trial against Silvia, Billy and Costa (Italy)

The state attorney of Turin, represented by Arnaldi Di Balme, was not pleased with the sentence of nonsuit due to the “ne bis in idem”, that because of lack of jurisdiction the case was not allowed to proceed. Now they are getting back on track appealing against all the jurisprudence and asking for a new process. Once again the persecutor is insisting on claiming that the transport of explosive material and the attempted attack to target IBM in Switzerland was planned in Italy.

The attorney is trying to proof this based upon the participation of Silvia, Billy and Costa in the Coalizione contro le nocivitá (Coalition Against Nocivity – toxicity/harmfulness). An experience of struggle against harmfulness that during its active years has created an active projectuality against bio- and nanotechnologies.

These attempts of repression should come as no surprise; the law is built specifically to repress critical and struggling environments that go against this exploitative system.

For us it remains clear that it is a necessity to get rid of this ecocidal system that uses science and research as their executive branch.

End of the legal prosecution against eco-anarchists Silvia, Costa & Billy who attempted to blow up an IBM nano-facility under construction (Italy)

Note of Instinto Salvaje: We joyfully salute from a distance the news of the closure of the proceedings against our comrades Billy, Silvia and Costa, who will not be prosecuted in Italy. For now we publish the news complied from TG Magddalena and enemy sources. We send all our love and solidarity to the three comrades.

Finally, on the morning of March 23, 2016, the trial of Billy, Silvia and Costa was completed. A little before 12:00 am in court room 47, where the reading of the process was given.

“Ne bis in idem” (The fundamental right not to be judged twice for the same offense), the court ruled that prosecution was “not applicable for lack of jurisdiction” since our comrades were already condemned in Switzerland for possession, transportation and handling of explosives during the attempted attack on an IBM nano-technology research center in Zurich claimed by the Earth Liberation Front, where they served sentences of more than three years. So this “fundamental right” applies to not be judged twice for the same act. Therefore, the three anarchists will not be judged in Italy.

Billy, Silvia and Costa were not present in the court room, but were informed of the results of the procedures and the support and solidarity of our comrades who were present.

Soon we will be updating with more depth about case of the three comrades.

2nd March: The last session of the trial took place at the court in Turin. Prosecutors and defence lawyers gave their statements. Prosecutors demanded 5 years and 8 months for Costa, 5 years and 4 months for Silvia and Billy.
The sentence is due 23 March.

Eco-anarchist comrades Billy, Costa and Silvia sent to trial again (Italy)

On July 17th 2015, the preliminary hearing against Silvia Guerini, Costantino ‘Costa’ Ragusa and Luca ‘Billy’ Bernasconi took place in Turin, Italy. The three have been previously arrested and jailed for several years in Switzerland, accused of having organised an act of sabotage against a nanotechnology research centre of IBM, under construction at the time. On April 15th 2010, they were stopped and arrested by Swiss police who searched their car and found explosives, as well as leaflets claiming the imminent action under the name ‘Earth Liberation Front Switzerland’.

They have now been indicted according to the article 110 of the Italian penal code, which is used to punish offenses of criminal association. Particularly they’re accused of having conspired together to plan the action in Italy, of having illegally obtained the materials needed to assemble and prepare explosive devices, and of having smuggled such devices between the Italian and Swiss border. All charges include the aggravating circumstance of the ‘purpose of terrorism’, historically used in political trials in Italy to obtain long pretrial detention, and longer prison sentence if found guilty.

The judge at the preliminary hearing accepted the thesis proposed by the deputy prosecutor Enrico Arnaldi Di Balme and found irrelevant that Billy, Costa and Silvia have already been tried and convicted in the Swiss Confederation.

The trial will commence on January 13th 2016 in Turin. Let’s use it as an occasion to relaunch the struggle against environmental destruction.

In view of the trial, the three comrades are facing a hard time and need to cover several legal expenses, so they’ve shared a call for support. Any help is much appreciated.

11th June will be a day of international solidarity with Marius Mason and all long term anarchist prisoners, another occasion for dedicating them our time and thoughts and for carrying on the struggle together with them.

This year’s day of international solidarity is entitled “Transition: the struggle is not over“, and is also in support of Eric McDavid, released in January after 9 years of
imprisonment, and of Marius’ gender change.

On the same day the preliminary hearing of the trial against Silvia, Costa and Billy will be held in Turin. The comrades are once again on trial for the events following which they already served years in-prison in Switzerland: the charge of attempted sabotage on the IBM nanotechnology research centre of Zurich. 26/01/2012 – At 6:30 this morning, Thursday, January 26, 2012, a vast police operation ordered by the Public prosecutor of Turin has struck many friends, comrades, and No TAV resisters throughout Italy with arrests and cautionary measures. The practices of resistance that set off this massive operation concern conflictual episodes starting from the eviction of the Libera Repubblica della Maddalena [Free Republic of the Magdalene], passing through the siege of July 3 and the long Susa Valley summer. Turin – 4 occupations searched, 3 people arrested and others to house arrest.

Waiting for news, we communicate that, around 6am of the mourning, the Digos (political police) has searched many occupations (Asilo, Barocchio, Mezcal, Askatasuna) and houses, arresting three people, notifing some house arrests (it seems they’re 4 people) and to others, the requirement to sign in at the local police station.
