Cosmos Laundromat, developed under the code name Gooseberry Movie Project is the 5th Open Movie Project initiated by Blender Foundation. Ton Roosendal announced the project in January 2010. Studio lineup was set in January 2014 & Story board and Projects targets were announced in March. A crowd funding campaign also started in the same period. The film is to be written and produced by a coalition of more than 12 international animation studios around the globe. Work is expected to take 18 months, with 60–80 people participating full-time.
Following Elephants Dream, Big Buck Bunny, Sintel and Tears of Steel the short movie is the fifth movie project from the Blender Foundation. It was created by the Blender Institute, a division of the foundation set up specifically to facilitate the creation of open content films and games. The film is intended to pilot release in beginning of 2015 and premiere by end. It's a full-length film, probably around 90 minutes. The film itself and any material made in the studio are released under the Creative Commons Attribution License. The initial ten minute pilot was released onto YouTube on August 10, 2015. Through the funding raised for production of the film, the Blender Foundation was able to improve on existing or add new features to the software product.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
Dynamic range, abbreviated DR or DNR, is the ratio between the largest and smallest values of a changeable quantity, such as in signals like sound and light.
Dynamic range is the difference between the smallest and largest usable signal through a transmission or processing chain or storage medium. It is measured as a ratio, or as a base-10 (decibel) or base-2 (doublings, bits or stops) logarithmic value.
The human senses of sight and hearing have a very high dynamic range. A human is capable of hearing (and usefully discerning) anything from a quiet murmur in a soundproofed room to the sound of the loudest heavy metal concert. Such a difference can exceed 100 dB which represents a factor of 100,000 in amplitude and a factor 10,000,000,000 in power. A human can see objects in starlight (although colour differentiation is reduced at low light levels) or in bright sunlight, even though on a moonless night objects receive 1/1,000,000,000 of the illumination they would on a bright sunny day: that is a dynamic range of 90 dB.
High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI or HDR) is a technique used in imaging and photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than is possible with standard digital imaging or photographic techniques. The aim is to present the human eye with a similar range of luminance as that which, through the visual system, is familiar in everyday life. The human eye, through adaptation of the iris (and other methods) adjusts constantly to the broad dynamic changes ubiquitous in our environment. The brain continuously interprets this information so that most of us can see in a wide range of light conditions. Most cameras, on the other hand, cannot.
HDR images can represent a greater range of luminance levels than can be achieved using more 'traditional' methods, such as many real-world scenes containing very bright, direct sunlight to extreme shade, or very faint nebulae. This is often achieved by capturing and then combining several different narrower range exposures of the same subject matter. Non-HDR cameras take photographs with a limited exposure range, resulting in the loss of detail in highlights or shadows.

Gran Turismo Sport is due imminently! We took a look at this week's demo and were impressed with the improvements over prior betas. Performance is improved and the HDR implementation is so good, we decided to build a video around it. HOW TO WATCH IN HDR: Now, the chances are you'll be watching this via YouTube on a standard range screen - in which case, YouTube converts the HDR image to SDR using a technique called tone-mapping. To watch this video in actual HDR, you'll need specific hardware. Obviously, an HDR screen is a given, and mid-range/high-end Samsung screens from 2016 and the newer 2017 models will get the job done via the YouTube app. Alternatively you can stream the video from your phone to a Chromecast Ultra to get the desired effect. YouTube has also rolled up an update fo...
