Jerusalem (/dʒəˈruːsələm/; Hebrew: יְרוּשָׁלַיִם Yerushaláyim pronounced [jeruˈʃalajim]; Arabic: القُدس al-Quds pronounced [ˈaːɫ ˈquːdsˤ]), located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there and the State of Palestine ultimately foresees it as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally.
During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. The oldest part of the city was settled in the 4th millennium BCE. In 1538, walls were built around Jerusalem under Suleiman the Magnificent. Today those walls define the Old City, which has been traditionally divided into four quarters—known since the early 19th century as the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters. The Old City became a World Heritage Site in 1981, and is on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Modern Jerusalem has grown far beyond the Old City's boundaries.
The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international co-operation. A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on 24 October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan, New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.
During the Second World War, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated talks on a successor agency to the League of Nations, and the United Nations Charter was drafted at a conference in April–June 1945; this charter took effect 24 October 1945, and the UN began operation. The UN's mission to preserve world peace was complicated in its early decades by the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union and their respective allies. The organization participated in major actions in Korea and the Congo, as well as approving the creation of the state of Israel in 1947. The organization's membership grew significantly following widespread decolonization in the 1960s, and by the 1970s its budget for economic and social development programmes far outstripped its spending on peacekeeping. After the end of the Cold War, the UN took on major military and peacekeeping missions across the world with varying degrees of success.
A general assembly is a meeting of all the members of an organisation or shareholders of a company.
Specific examples of general assembly include:
Nikki Haley (born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa, January 20, 1972) is an American Republican politician who has served as the Governor of South Carolina since 2011. Prior to her election in 2010 as the 116th governor of the state, she represented Lexington County in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011.
Haley is the first woman and first minority to serve as Governor of South Carolina; at the age of 44, she is the youngest current governor in the United States. She is the second Indian American governor in the United States, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. As governor, she also serves as chair, ex-officio, of the board of trustees of the University of South Carolina during her term in office.
On November 4, 2014, Haley was re-elected to a second term as the Governor, a term that will expire on January 9, 2019.
Haley delivered the Republican response to Barack Obama's final State of the Union address on January 12, 2016. She has also been touted as a potential vice-presidential nominee for the Republican ticket.
Donald John Trump, Sr. (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessperson and media personality. He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization and the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump's career, branding efforts, personal life, wealth, and outspoken manner have made him famous throughout the country. Since 2015, he is also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election.
Trump is a native of New York City and a son of Fred Trump, who inspired him to enter real estate development. After two years at Fordham University and while studying at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Trump worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son. Upon graduating in 1968 he joined the company, and in 1971 was given control, renaming the company "The Trump Organization". Since then he has built hotels, golf courses, and other properties, many of which bear his name. He is a major figure in the American business scene and has received prominent media exposure. The NBC reality show The Apprentice bolstered his fame, and his three marriages were extensively reported in tabloids.

Plot: It is the time of the Crusades during the Middle Ages - the world shaping 200-year collision between Europe and the East. A blacksmith named Balian has lost his family and nearly his faith. The religious wars raging in the far-off Holy Land seem remote to him, yet he is pulled into that immense drama. Amid the pageantry and intrigues of medieval Jerusalem he falls in love, grows into a leader, and ultimately uses all his courage and skill to defend the city against staggering odds. Destiny comes seeking Balian in the form of a great knight, Godfrey of Ibelin, a Crusader briefly home to France from fighting in the East. Revealing himself as Balian's father, Godfrey shows him the true meaning of knighthood and takes him on a journey across continents to the fabled Holy City. In Jerusalem at that moment--between the Second and Third Crusades--a fragile peace prevails, through the efforts of its enlightened Christian king, Baldwin IV, aided by his advisor Tiberias, and the military restraint of the legendary Muslim leader Saladin. But Baldwin's days are numbered, and strains of fanaticism, greed, and jealousy among the Crusaders threaten to shatter the truce. King Baldwin's vision of peace--a kingdom of heaven--is shared by a handful of knights, including Godfrey of Ibelin, who swear to uphold it with their lives and honor. As Godfrey passes his sword to his son, he also passes on that sacred oath: to protect the helpless, safeguard the peace, and work toward harmony between religions and cultures, so that a kingdom of heaven can flourish on earth. Balian takes the sword and steps into history.

The United Nations General Assembly votes on a resolution demanding the U.S. rescind its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
https://www.rt.com/news/413884-unga-meeting-jerusalem-decision/
CNN's Adm. John Kirby says the United Nations General Assembly vote to overwhelmingly approve a resolution on Jerusalem is a big rebuke to the Trump administration's decision to recognize that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.
The United Nations member states voted to condemn President Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
More than 120 countries defied President Donald Trump on Thursday and voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump had threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that voted in favor. A total of 128 countries backed the resolution, which is non-binding, nine voted against and 35 abstained. Twenty-one countries did not cast a vote. Trump’s threat appeared to have some impact, with more countries abstaining and rejecting the resolution than usually associated with Palestinian-related resolutions. Jerusalem Travel Guide: Located in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea, Jerusalem is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is the holiest city in Judaism and the spiritual center of the Jewish people since the 10th century BCE, the third-holiest in Islam and is also home to a number of significant and ancient Christian landmarks. It is also a city with a very violent past, as it was fiercely contested between Christianity and Islam during the brutal Crusade era. While the city has had a large Jewish majority since 1967, a wide range of national, religious, and socioeconomic groups are represented here. The walled area of Jerusalem, which until the late nineteenth century formed the entire city, is now ca...

US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley reportedly told the assembly: "We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of," The Guardian reports. Mrs Haley ...

Israel reacts to declaration that Jerusalem does not belong to Jews, Arabs The Israeli embassy in Cairo, Egypt, has expressed gratitude at an Egyptian writer’s controversial remarks about the status of Jerusalem. The embassy was reacting to an interview that was broadcast on Sunday, in which Youssef Ziedan, a popular Egyptian novelist and scholar, declared that the al-Aqsa mosque is not located in Jerusalem’s al-Haram al-Sharif compound. He also said in the interview that Jerusalem is not a holy city. The writer also laid blame on Arab and Israeli leaders, accusing the...

Previous Israeli excavation work around the compound behind the Western Wall, known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary) and to Jews as Temple Mount, has triggered Palestinian protests. SOURCE : https://goo.gl/sYC9yt UN Condemns Trump For Jerusalem Stance, Then They Get Blindsided with Massive Decision Once the U.N. recently voted to condemn the United States for President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, United States Ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.) Nikki Haley immediately responded by threatening to reduce America’s U.N. funding. “The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation,” Haley told the assembly in New York City.

Guatemala defends decision to move embassy to Jerusalem, no intention to reverse move. Guatemala’s top diplomat defended the country’s decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, rejecting international and domestic scrutiny after following the U.S.’ lead. Foreign Minister Sandra Jovel said the change amounts to “a foreign policy decision, therefore sovereign,” and that Guatemala has no intention of changing their mind. Guatemala President Jimmy Morales announced the switch Christmas Eve, becoming the first country to follow President Trump’s controversial decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Guatemala’s government has given no timeline for a move, as President Trump has also not said when a switch will be made. However, Israel’s Ambassador to Guatemal...

The United States’ decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem and recognize the city as Israel’s capital was rebuked by the international community in a late December United Nations vote. The shift in the U.S. position also set off a wave of protests, further complicating the peace process. Palestinians say they now feel the U.S. cannot be a neutral broker of any future agreement between them and Israel. But Jerusalem, considered a holy center for the world’s three major monotheistic religions, has always been a contested city. Israelis and Palestinians both claim the city as their capital. A hotbed of the Arab-Israeli conflict is Silwan, is a small district in East Jerusalem. Jerusalem may seem peaceful from a distance, but on the ground tensions are high. The city is the nexus of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Numerous Palestinians' houses have been demolished by Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem. This documentary was filmed in Silwan, a small district in East Jerusalem, where a fierce battle between Israelis and Arabs rages on. Tourists explore the old town happily, but Palestinians who have their home here live in complete insecurity. Approximately 20,000 house demolitions have been decided. Affected Palestinians find little support and are powerless to fight for their rights. Their last hope is the lawy...
The Plot Behind the Declaration of Jerusalem Israel's Capital, why has Israel been declared the capital at this time?
When Trump called Jerusalem Israel's capital the world was outraged. Land matters in the Arab-Israeli conflict - and to Palestine, so does the Green Line. US President Donald Trump’s plan to move the US embassy to Jerusalem has sparked international uproar. While the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the decision as "historic”, many countries reacted to the announcement with sharp criticism, none more than Palestine. President Trump said the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is "long overdue”, but the announcement underscores a situation that has been in the making for decades. The 1949 armistice agreement drew the so-called Green Line between the new Jewish state of Israel and the predominantly Palestinian West Bank, which at that time still belonged to J...
The 193-member United Nations General Assembly is holding a special emergency session to vote on a resolution over US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel earlier this month.
A stinging rebuke at the UN General Assembly may herald deeper problems for American diplomacy. The rejection of the United States' decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at the United Nations was resounding. US President Donald Trump and his UN ambassador Nikki Haley both made threats before the General Assembly vote – warning nations of the consequences they faced if they didn’t support the US move. The vast majority didn’t. The result: 128 countries voted against the US while only eight stood with it. Turkey's president reacted swiftly, saying the result proved that "the world is bigger than five and much bigger than one." Palestine's ambassador to the U-N accused the US of using “unprecedented tactics... including blackmail and extortion.” Beyond the immediate fo...

"I have determined IT IS TIME..." said the US President. Trump's bold move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state is drawing condemnation from Arabs and globalist leaders, and praise from Orthodox Jews, Messianic Jews, and Israel-loving Christians. Why did Trump make this decision? What is the prophetic significance of this turn of events? Has Trump "confirmed a covenant with many" or ushered in the blessings of God upon America? What a historic day for Israel ! Jerusalem is declared as the capital of Israel after more than 2000 years by the leader of the free world, President Donald J Trump. It was only after nearly 2000 years in 1967 during the 6 days war where Jerusalem was reunitedafter the destruction of the Temple and the exile of the Jewish people by the Roman empire in the year 70 A.D according to the word of God spoken by Lord Jesus in Matthew 24:2. Today a prophecy that was given on January 1, 2017 was fulfilled. We can clearly observe how time was stretched and delayed till the end of the year. How many of us would have had the faith to believe the prophecy given on the beginning of the year ? I myself, inspired by the holy spirit uploaded the video concerning this prophecy just a week ago and it c...

Jerusalem's status as part of Israel, or Palestine, or both has long been a controversial issue many politicians have shied away from. But Donald Trump changed decades of US policy last week, by recognising the holy city as Israel's capital. That decision set off worldwide protests and condemnation. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan called a meeting of The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Wednesday to discuss a response. He said the US decision was illegal and a threat to all humanity. But what can the 57-member organisation realistically do to pressure the US? Jerusalem's Old City is a tiny enclave where some of history's greatest dramas have been enacted. Busy and colorful, it is the fountainhead of three major religions, the site of many of the world's most venerated shrines, and home to 26,000 people of profoundly different cultures who live side by side in a fragile peace. Jerusalem: Within These Walls offers a kaleidoscopic view of the city and its people as they are today—the remarkable outcome of 3,000 years of history, hope, and faith.
The Old City of Jerusalem covers less than one square kilometer and is home to Jews, Christians and Muslims. The political tensions dividing Israel and the Palestinians are felt acutely here. How do the Old City's residents deal with this stress? We put that question to three families and to three clerics representing the three 'world religions'.
