Orrin Grant Hatch (born March 22, 1934) is an American politician who is the President pro tempore of the United States Senate, serving since January 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he serves as the senior United States Senator for Utah. In office since 1977, Hatch is the most-senior Republican Senator.
Hatch has served as either the chairman or ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1993 to 2005. He previously served as chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee from 1981 to 1987 and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
After the Republicans won control of the Senate during the 2014 midterms, Hatch became President pro tempore on January 6, 2015 after the 114th United States Congress was sworn in.
Orrin Grant Hatch was born to Jesse Hatch (1904, Vernal, Utah – 1992, Salt Lake City, Utah) and his wife Helen Frances Hatch (née Kamm; 1906, Pekin, Illinois – 1995, Murray, Utah). His great-grandfather Jeremiah Hatch (1823, Lincoln, Vermont – 1903, Vernal, Utah) was the founder of Vernal, Utah. Hatch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in the suburb of Baldwin.
MSNBC is an American basic cable and satellite television network that provides news coverage and political commentary from NBC News on current events. The network also carries a prime-time 'opinion page' programming bloc with a mostly progressive slant. It is owned by the NBCUniversal News Group, a unit of the NBCUniversal Television Group division of NBCUniversal.
MSNBC and msnbc.com were founded in 1996 as separate partnerships between Microsoft and General Electric's NBC unit, hence the network's naming. Although they shared the same name, msnbc.com and MSNBC maintained separate corporate structures and news operations, with msnbc.com headquartered on the West Coast on the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington, and MSNBC in the NBC headquarters in New York. Microsoft divested its stake in the MSNBC channel in 2005, and divested its stake in msnbc.com in July 2012, rebranding the general news site as NBCNews.com and creating a new msnbc.com as the online home of the cable news channel. As of February 2015, approximately 94,531,000 households (81.2% of those with television) receive MSNBC within the United States of America.
A Senate is a deliberative assembly, often the upper house or chamber of a bicameral legislature or parliament. The name comes from the ancient Roman Senate (Latin: Senatus), so-called as an assembly of the senior (Latin: senex meaning "the elder" or "the old one") and therefore allegedly wiser and more experienced members of the society or ruling class.
Thus, the literal meaning of the word "senate" is: Assembly of Elders.
Many countries have an assembly named a senate, composed of senators who may be elected, appointed, have inherited the title, or gained membership by other methods, depending on the country. Modern senates typically serve to provide a chamber of "sober second thought" to consider legislation passed by a lower house, whose members are usually elected.
The modern word senate is derived from the [Latin] word senātus (senate), which comes from senex, “old man”. The members or legislators of a senate are called senators. The Latin word senator was adopted into English with no change in spelling. Its meaning is derived from a very ancient form of social organization, in which advisory or decision-making powers are reserved for the eldest men. For the same reason, the word senate is correctly used when referring to any powerful authority characteristically composed by the eldest members of a community, as a deliberative body of a faculty in an institution of higher learning is often called a senate. This form adaptation was used to show the power of those in body and for the decision-making process to be thorough, which could take a long period of time. The original senate was the Roman Senate, which lasted until 580 (various efforts to revive it were made in Medieval Rome). In the Eastern Roman Empire, the Byzantine Senate continued until the Fourth Crusade, circa 1202–1204.
Rachel Anne Maddow (i/ˈmædoʊ/, born April 1, 1973) is an American television host, political commentator, and author. She hosts a nightly television show, The Rachel Maddow Show, on MSNBC. Her syndicated talk radio program of the same name aired on Air America Radio. Maddow is the first openly gay anchor to host a major prime-time news program in the United States. She holds a doctorate in politics from Oxford University.
Asked about her political views by the Valley Advocate, Maddow replied, "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican party platform."
Maddow was born in Castro Valley, California. Her father, Robert B. "Bob" Maddow, is a former United States Air Force captain who resigned his commission the year before her birth and found civilian work as a lawyer for the East Bay Municipal Utility District. Her mother, Elaine Maddow (née Gosse), is a school program administrator. She has one older brother, David. Her paternal grandfather was from an Eastern European Jewish family (the original family surname being "Medwedof"), while her paternal grandmother was of Dutch (Protestant) background; her mother, originally from Newfoundland, Canada, is of English and Irish ancestry. Maddow has stated that her family is "very, very Catholic," and she grew up in a community that her mother has described as "very conservative." Maddow was a competitive athlete and participated in three sports in high school: volleyball, basketball, and swimming. Referencing John Hughes films, she has described herself as being "a cross between the jock and the antisocial girl" in high school.

On, Thursday, 6/08/2017, Senator Claire McCaskill (Democrat representing Missouri) rips into the Republican Finance Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Orrin Hatch (Republican representing Utah) during a Senate Hearing leaving him speechless. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is reportedly considering a Senate run in Utah if longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch retires. UtahPolicy.com reports that sources close to Mr. Romney say he’s making preparations to run, but some say Mr. Hatch likely won’t make a decision on whether he’ll run for another term until the end of the year. It would be Mr. Hatch’s eight term in office if he decides to run again. Mr. Hatch has said in the past that he’d be willing to step aside if someone like Mr. Romney wanted to run for the seat. Mr. Romney was the GOP presidential nominee in the 2012 elections, but lost to former President Barack Obama, who was the incumbent. Rep. Chris Stewart, Utah Republican, has also expressed interest in running for the Senate in 2018. He currently represents Utah’s 2nd Co...

On Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) discussed tax reform on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.
Republican congressmen and women are keenly aware they blew it on trying to repeal and/or replace Obamacare, except one: President Donald Trump. The GOP is under the gun to get moving on their next piece of major legislation: tax reform. But to punish the GOP, Trump has hinted he may block federal funds to insurance companies that keep down coverage costs for low-income people. And other Republicans are working with Democrats on potential measures to shore up the health care law. Sen. Orrin Hatch said in frustration, “We’re not going back to health care. We’re in tax now. They shot their wad on health care and that’s the way it is. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on the potential economic benefits of tax cuts and the need to get Democrats to work with Republicans on tax reform.
The political knives are out from the elite and establishment Republicans to get Mike Lee. In addition, Both Republicans and Democrats are lying about healthcare. Republicans lie that they are going to repeal and Democrats lie that Republicans actually mean to repeal Obamacare. Also, Republicans have lost the debate over healthcare because they have not engaged in the debate. 62% of American people now support the idea that the federal government must provide healthcare. This is a fight over ideas. If we lose the fight over first principles to progressives and their ideology, we will not recover this nation. It is not a battle between Republican and Democrat, but is about Americanism vs. Progressivism.
