Across the many fields concerned with interactivity, including information science, computer science, human-computer interaction, communication, and industrial design, there is little agreement over the meaning of the term interactivity, although all are related to interaction with computers and other machines with a user interface.
Multiple views on interactivity exist. In the "contingency view" of interactivity, there are three levels:
One body of research has made a strong distinction between interaction and interactivity. As the suffix 'ity' is used to form nouns that denote a quality or condition, this body of research has defined interactivity as the 'quality or condition of interaction'. These researchers suggest that the distinction between interaction and interactivity is important since interaction may be present in any given setting, but the quality of the interaction varies from low and high.

Successive research studies carried out by Professor Brahm Norwich at the University of Exeter have addressed the development of policy for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), shaped professional understanding of how best to teach pupils with SEN, and generated a resource to support teacher-educators and teacher trainees in meeting the needs of pupils with SEN. The research has driven a fundamental re-appraisal of how children with SEN should be taught, showing that many children with SEN do not require specialist teaching, but rather an intensification of the same general teaching methods used for non-SEN pupils. The research has resulted in the creation of a practical training tool for SEN teaching and a teacher-training tool designed on this basis has been disseminated na...

You may be used to implement a logon policy on all your servers, which is good. System Administrators logon to servers too much in general. Remote control through tools, scripts, PowerShell is the new standard nowadays. You might want to implement this on certain particular servers, like in this video, use the local domain policy, otherwise, use a GPO. Big difference in W2K16 is that the message is displayed BEFORE entering credentials, and not afterwards like in all previous Windows Server versions. The default legal notice is also gone finally, by default you can create your own text now! Find the setting via Local Security Policy / Local Policies / Security Options / InterActive Logon. Please use this in your environment. ------- Du kan bli brukt jusqu'à implementere en logonpolitik p...

The efficacy of policy interventions for socioeconomic challenges, like food insecurity, is difficult to measure due to a limited understanding of the complex web of causes and consequences. As an additional complication, limited data is available for accurate modeling. Thorough risk based decision making requires appropriate statistical inference and a combination of data sources. The federal summer meals program is a part of the safety net for food insecure families in the US, though the operations of the program itself are subject to risk. These uncertainties stem from variables both about internal operations as well as external food environment. Local partners often incur risk in operating the program; thus we use decision analysis to minimize the risks. After integrating public, priva...

We present a method for training recurrent neural networks to act as near-optimal feedback controllers. It is able to generate stable and realistic behaviors for a range of dynamical systems and tasks -- swimming, flying, biped and quadruped walking with different body morphologies. It does not require motion capture or task-specific features or state machines. The controller is a neural network, having a large number of feed-forward units that learn elaborate state-action mappings, and a small number of recurrent units that implement memory states beyond the physical system state. The action generated by the network is defined as velocity. Thus the network is not learning a control policy, but rather the dynamics under an implicit policy. Essential features of the method include interleav...

This past November, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality group turned dining out on it’s head by introducing a zero-gratuity policy. This game changer not only affects the BOH, FOH, and diners experience/paycheck, but it is having a ripple effect across the restaurant industry as a whole. Adam Rapoport, EIC of Bon Appétit, sits down with Meyer to discuss the praise and backlash of a no-tipping world and the policies that are yet to come. This session is part of convergence programming and is accessible to multiple badges beyond Interactive, Gold and Platinum. Across the globe, weak implementation of poorly designed policy slows economic growth, hinders individual wellbeing, and harms the environment. This session with Asim Khwaja, Sumitomo-FASID Professor of International Finance and Development, and Rohini Pande, Mohamed Kamal Professor of Public Policy, showcases a new approach – “smart” policy design – that creates an embedded researcher-policymaker relationship to support governance reform and deliver effective policy to improve the lives of the poor. Presented at IDEASpHERE on May 16, 2014 at Harvard Kennedy School.

Recorded at AppSecUSA 2014 in Denver http://2014.appsecusa.org/ Friday, September 19 • 10:30am - 11:15am Threat Modeling Made Interactive! Threat modeling is an important part of any secure development process. By identifying potential threats early in the development, you can build effective mitigations into your system, rather than relying on costly patches and bug fixes. Existing techniques for modeling threats involve a whiteboard or some form of diagramming, with a few specialized tools capable of generating a list of threats that may be applicable to your system. These tools are indispensable, but provide a limited form of feedback and interaction. You can't, for example, state a security policy that you care about and check whether it can be violated by an attacker's actions; s...

CRISTINA FERNANDEZ focuses on integrating policymakers into startup ecosystems through Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) initiatives across the world and liaises closely with the Startup Nations network and the Global Entrepreneurship Research Network (GERN).
