UNDP Myanmar Annual Report 2016
The report describes the results achieved by UNDP in the areas of democratic governance, local governance and disaster resilience and environmental governance. 2016 was a historic year for Myanmar, as the country took further steps on the road towards peace and democracy. The National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, took office in March 2016, and UNDP, together with the rest of the international community, welcomed Myanmar’s first civilian government in more than 50 years.
Measuring Myanmar's Starting Point for the Sustainable Development Goals: SDG Indicator Baseline Report
This report is a first attempt at compiling the baseline data that currently exists on Myanmar for the SDGs. It discusses and explains the available data and provides comparison to the regional and global level. Finally, a technical annex provides detailed information on data sources and methodological notes for each SDG Indicator, to provide a technical reference for consistently continuing the monitoring of these indicators over the coming years.
Crossing the Barriers
This film follows the journeys of 6 local women administrators in Myanmar. Local administrators, known as Village Tract/Ward Administrators connect communities to township administration. There are approximately 17,000 village tracts and wards in the country. In the 2012 Ward and Village Tract administrator election, only 41 out of 16785 seats (0.24 percent of total seats) were won by women. In the 2016 Ward and Village Tract Administrator election, the number of female representation in ward and village tract administration doubled to 88 with women taking 0.5 % of the seats. About 31 % of female WVTAs were re-elected to their second term.
