We’re starting 2018 with a fresh vision and focus
The EU and UNDP launched an important initiative to support hundreds of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across Belarus over the next 3 years.
EU and UNDP launched the human rights week to celebrate Human Rights Day 2017 and prepare the ground for a wider campaign in 2018 which will mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
US$ 2 billion pledged for long-term recovery in hurricane- affected countries, of which the EU committed $352 million.
UNDP, together with the Governments of Germany and Spain, and the EU, launched a new programme to support countries in making progress on their commitments under the Paris Agreement, the so-called Nationally Determined Contributions.
Joint initiatives
The Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI), the Joint Task Force on Electoral Assistance (JTF), the Parliamentary Action on Renewable Energy the Articulation of Territorial Networks for Sustainable Human Development (ART Programme), the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme are among the main initiatives managed by our office.
UNDP and the European Union
The European Union (EU) is a major supporter of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We are partnering in nearly 140 countries to deepen democratic governance, prevent or recover from conflict and natural disasters, build resilience and adapt to climate change. Thanks to the support of the EU, millions of people around the world have access to justice and public services, enjoy the right to vote, have recovered from crisis and live in mine-free communities.
The EU and UNDP are natural partners, sharing the same values and objectives. These include respect for human rights and the rule of law; equal access to development opportunities for all; and fight against poverty around the world. A guiding principle of our partnership is the joint effort to help countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Transparency
UNDP has a long-standing commitment to organizational transparency and accountability, and we have delivered on our commitments to the International Aid Transparency Initiative to publish aid flows.
In 2016, the Publish What You Fund’s Aid Transparency Index recognized this accomplishment, along with our corporate efforts toward enhancing transparency by ranking UNDP first overall out of 68 major institutions evaluated worldwide.
open.undp.org, UNDP's online portal, allows open, comprehensive public access to data on more than 4,266 active UNDP projects, and publishes over US$5.3 billion in project data. This includes projects financed by the European Union.
What we do
UNDP’s Representation Office in Brussels partners with the institutions of the European Union. Together with the wider UN family in Brussels and with our partners in the European Union (EU), our goal is to promote and advance the development agenda and international UN standards - such as the Sustainable Development Goals and human rights - both in EU policy discussions and in the external action of the European Union.
