Social Good Summit in Mogadishu
On the 17th September in New York, global leaders and citizens came together at the Social Good Summit to keep the “Future in Focus” and discuss how technology and innovation can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create a more peaceful, prosperous planet. We joined the conversation live in Mogadishu, where Sherif El Tokali from UNDP discussed how innovation can help youth to participate in solving complex issues in Somalia, with Abdihakim Ainte - Founder and Chair of iRise Hub, and Abdifatah Ali, Human Rights and Youth Activist.
First ever social innovation camp launches in Mogadishu
The first ever “Innovate for Somalia” social innovation camp run by UNDP in partnership with the Federal Government, opened in Mogadishu in October, which saw over 50 young Somali men and women brainstorm to come up with business ideas to improve the Somali dairy industry. The event, which ran over 7 days, concluded in a competitive finale with the young people forming teams to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and win support for their idea.
