Keep Space for Peace Week 2017

Keep Space for Peace week was marked at Menwith Hill by a protest organised by Yorkshire CND, with help from the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign and Joan West of the East Lancs Clarion Choir.

About 30 people attended the protest, arriving on foot, by bicycle, by minibus or by car, and were lucky to have a warm and mostly dry evening. ...

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead

The Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign seeks to build on the work previously undertaken by the Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases (CAAB).

CAAB evolved in 1992 out of the long campaign of protest at the American base at Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, North Yorkshire; local people having expressed their concerns at the arrival of the US Army at Menwith Hill in 1951. We have continued to build on the work and struggles of many people over the years since the arrival, occupation and control of the US Visiting Forces in the UK.
