Massive Attack are an English trip hop group formed in 1988 in Bristol, consisting of Robert "3D" Del Naja, Grant "Daddy G" Marshall and formerly Andy "Mushroom" Vowles ("Mush"). Their debut album Blue Lines was released in 1991, with the single "Unfinished Sympathy" reaching the charts and later being voted the 63rd greatest song of all time in a poll by NME. 1998's Mezzanine, containing "Teardrop", and 2003's 100th Window charted in the UK at number 1. Both Blue Lines and Mezzanine feature in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The group has won numerous music awards throughout their career, including a Brit Award—winning Best British Dance Act, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and two Q Awards. They have released five studio albums that have sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
DJs Daddy G and Andrew Vowles and graffiti artist-turned-rapper Robert Del Naja met as members of partying collective The Wild Bunch. One of the first homegrown soundsystems in the UK, The Wild Bunch became dominant on the Bristol club scene in the mid-1980s.
Bristol (i/ˈbrɪstəl/) is a city, unitary authority and county in South West England with an estimated population of 442,500 in 2015. It is England's sixth and the United Kingdom's eighth most populous city, and the most populous city in Southern England after London. People from Bristol are known as Bristolians. The city borders the counties of Somerset and Gloucestershire, with the historic cities of Bath and Gloucester to the south-east and north-east, respectively.
Iron Age hill forts and Roman villas were built near the confluence of the Rivers Frome and Avon, and around the beginning of the 11th century the settlement was known as Brycgstow (Old English "the place at the bridge"). Bristol received a royal charter in 1155 and was in Gloucestershire until 1373, when it became a county. From the 13th to the 18th century, Bristol was among the top three English cities after London (with York and Norwich) in tax receipts. Bristol was eclipsed by the rapid rise of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham during the Industrial Revolution.

A BBC documentary, first broadcast on the 6th September 2016, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Massive Attack's seminal debut album Blue Lines. The program not only explores Massive Attack's background and formation, but also delves into the burgeoning Bristol music scene of the 1970's and 1980's. The documentary is narrated by actor Paul McGann, and features new interviews with long term Massive Attack co-writer/producer Neil Davidge, The Wild Bunch's DJ Milo, drum and bass superstar Roni Size and The Pop Group's Mark Stewart.
TV documentary series originally aired in 1996, entitled "Sounds Of The West", which examined the music being produced in the West of England. This particular episode named "Straight Outa Bristol" focused on the eponymous "Bristol Sound" and features interviews with DJ Milo (formally of The Wild Bunch), Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead. Music journailist, Phil Johnson, who would go on to write a book on this same subject, also weighs in on his feelings regarding the impact that Bristol had on the rest of dance music at the time. Portishead may not have invented trip-hop, but they were among the first to popularize it, particularly in America. Taking their cue from the slow, elastic beats that dominated Massive Attack's Blue Lines and adding elements of cool jazz, acid house, and soundtrack music, Portishead created an atmospheric, alluringly dark sound. The group wasn't as avant-garde as Tricky, nor as tied to dance traditions as Massive Attack; instead, it wrote evocative pseudo-cabaret pop songs that subverted their conventional structures with experimental productions and rhythms of trip-hop. As a result, Portishead appealed to a broad audience -- not just electronic dance and alternative rock fans, but thirtysomethings who found techno, trip-hop, and dance as exotic as worldbeat. Before Portishead released the...

Don't tell your man what he don't do right
Nor tell him all the things that make you cry
But check yourself for your own shit
And don't be making out like it's all his
Take a look around the world
You see such bad things happening
There are many good men
Ask yourself is he one of them
The deadliest of sin is pride
Make you feel like you're always right
But they're always two sides
It takes two to make love, two to make a life
Take a look around the world
You see such mad things happening
There are few good men
