MTV Europe

MTV Europe is a pan-European 24-hour entertainment cable and digital television network launched on 1 August 1987. Initially, the channel served all regions within Europe being one of the very few channels that targeted the entire European continent. Today, the channel only serves a selection of European countries as MTV Networks Europe began to regionalise its network in 1997.

MTV Europe was begun under a co-operative agreement between Viacom and BT, which lasted until 1991 when Viacom took over full ownership. MTV Europe is wholly owned and operated by MTV Networks Europe.

Since its premiere, MTV revolutionized the music industry. Slogans such as "I want my MTV" became embedded in the concept of the VJ was popularized, the idea of a dedicated video-based outlet for music was introduced, and both artists and fans found a central location for music events, news, and promotion. MTV has also been referenced countless times in popular culture by musicians, other TV channels and shows, films and books.

MTV Europe Music Awards

The MTV Europe Music Awards ("EMAs" or "EMA") are an event presented by MTV Networks Europe which awards prizes to musicians and performers. Since 2007, the winners are chosen by the viewers and fans by visiting the EMAs' website. The first EMAs ceremony was held in 1994 in Berlin, Germany.

Though it was originally conceived as an alternative to the MTV Video Music Awards, the winners and presenters have often been American artists. The MTV Europe Music Awards are held every year in a different country. It has been hosted mostly in the United Kingdom. Since 2011 other worldwide/regional nominations have been added. The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Europe, MTV Live HD and most of the international MTV channels as well as online.

1994: The first MTV Europe Music Awards in 1994 were held on November 24; five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. George Michael performed "Jesus To A Child" and "Freedom" surrounded by many famous models including Naomi Campbell and Bono received the Free Your Mind Award on behalf of Amnesty International.

MTV

MTV (formerly an initialism of Music Television) is an American basic cable and satellite television channel which is a part of the "Viacom Music and Entertainment Group" unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of Viacom, of which it is a subsidiary. The channel itself is headquartered in New York City. Launched on August 1, 1981, the original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by television personalities known as "video jockeys," or VJs. The network's current target audience is teenagers and young adults, with programming consisting mainly of original reality, comedy and drama programming and some off-network syndicated programs and films, along with limited music video programming in off-peak time periods. In its early years, MTV's main target demographic were young adults, but today, MTV's programming is primarily targeted at teenagers, high school students and college-aged students.

MTV has spawned numerous sister channels in the U.S. and affiliated channels internationally, some of which have gone independent. MTV's influence on its audience, including issues related to censorship and social activism, has been a subject of debate for years.

Lukas Graham

Lukas Graham is a Danish soul pop band consisting of Lukas Graham Forchhammer (vocals), Mark "Lovestick" Falgren (drums), Magnus “Magnúm” Larsson (bass) and Kasper Daugaard (keyboard). Launching their debut album in 2012 on Copenhagen Records, Lukas Graham quickly became the most popular live act in Denmark. That success translated to the rest of Europe and caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records who co-signed them in 2013. The band’s music was first introduced worldwide with the release of their two singles "7 Years" and "Mama Said" in October 2015. "7 Years" resonated with many listeners and quickly made its way up numerous Spotify Top 50 Viral and Country charts. Their second album is expected to be released in 2016.

Career

2011–12: Career beginnings

The band started its career in Denmark in late 2011 when it released two homemade YouTube videos of the band performing Criminal Mind and Drunk in the Morning, recorded in Lukas' home. The videos were shared on Facebook among friends, and soon they had several hundred thousand views. The band's soulful and funky sound quickly spread in the Copenhagen underground and through online postings, which led Copenhagen Records to sign them. Lukas Graham achieved commercial success in October 2011 with the release of its debut single. Its first Danish tour sold over 30,000 concert tickets, even though its album had not been released yet.
