Nuits

Nuits (also known, though unofficially, as Nuits-sur-Armançon) is a commune in the Yonne department in Burgundy in north-central France.

Colonel Reyel

Rémy Ranguin better known by his stage name Colonel Reyel (born 5 October 1984) is a French dancehall, R&B and electro music artist. His 2011 album Au Rapport reached the top of the French Albums Chart and two singles from the album, "Celui..." and "Toutes les nuits" topped the French Singles Chart in two consecutive weeks in February–March 2011. In June 2011, Au Rapport went platinum. He is of Guadeloupe origin.

Career

Rémy Ranguin chose the military title "Colonel" as a tribute and continuing the tradition of great dancehall artists with similar military titles (like Admiral T, Lieutenant, Caporal Nigga, Kporal Maïky and Sergent). The pseudonyme "Reyel" is a creole version of French word "réel" (real in English).

In 2004, when he was just 20, he joined the group Septentrional Crew. After a visit to the Antilles the same year, he became a freestyle dancehall act and with his band found some success. His work from this period was released in a number of compilations including in Overdoze Riddim. As members of the band started solo careers, Colonel Reyel collected his own materials that he included in his 2008 Boomaz Mixtape Vol 1 including the popular "Crise de l'emploi". He collaborated in studio recording Scartik Rekordz including "Killa" (solo), "Destiny" with Twent and "Don Dada" featuring Twent & XéLo. In 2009, he appeared in the compilation Sound Storm with "Il faut se battre" featuring Josita.

Nightmares on Wax

George Evelyn (also known as Nightmares on Wax or DJ EASE), is a DJ and electronic music composer from Leeds, England. His music is released on Warp Records and was one of the first releases on the label.

Evelyn got his start in the music industry through an interest in hip hop and on joining a local breakdancing crew. He met Kevin Harper and together they released their first album in 1991, a techno-edged record entitled "A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter". This was the beginning of Nightmares on Wax's career. Today, Harper is a solo DJ and Evelyn is accompanied by Robin Taylor-Firth.

Early career

Evelyn's father and sister introduced him to the soul music of Quincy Jones and Curtis Mayfield. Later, as rap music became more popular, he was fascinated by the likes of Rappers Delight and Buffalo Gals. In 1988 he joined a breakdance crew where he befriended Kevin Harper, and the two later formed Nightmares on Wax. Their music fell into a category of artists including The Forgemasters, LFO, and Unique 3. Commenting on their style, he has said "We wanted to do tracks that had hip hop beats but experimented with ideas."

Les nuits d'été

Les nuits d'été (Summer Nights), Op. 7, is a song cycle by the French composer Hector Berlioz. It is a setting of six poems by Théophile Gautier. The cycle, completed in 1841, was originally for soloist and piano accompaniment. Berlioz orchestrated one of the songs in 1843, and did the same for the other five in 1856. The cycle was neglected for many years, but during the 20th century it became, and has remained, one of the composer's most popular works. The full orchestral version is more frequently performed in concert and on record than the piano original. The theme of the work is the progress of love, from youthful innocence to loss and finally renewal.

Background

Berlioz and the poet Théophile Gautier were neighbours and friends. Gautier wrote, "Berlioz represents the romantic musical idea … unexpected effects in sound, tumultuous and Shakespearean depth of passion." It is possible that Berlioz read Gautier's collection La comédie de la mort (The Comedy of Death) before its publication in 1838. Gautier had no objection to his friend's setting six poems from that volume, and Berlioz began in March 1840. The title Nuits d'été was Berlioz's invention, and it is not clear why he chose it: the first song is specifically set in spring rather than summer. The writer Annagret Fauser suggests that Berlioz may have been influenced by the preface to a collection of short stories by his friend Joseph Méry, Les nuits de Londres, in which the author writes of summer nights in which he and his friends sat outside until dawn telling stories. In a 1989 study of Berlioz, D Kern Holoman suggests that the title is an allusion to Shakespeare, whose works Berlioz loved.

Carboot Soul

Carboot Soul is the third album by British trip hop producer and DJ Nightmares on Wax. It was released in December 1999 on Warp Records in the UK, and reached number 71 in the UK album charts. Track 5 on the album, Finer, was released as a single and reached number 63 in the UK. Early copies of the album were issued with a designer packet of Rizla cigarette papers, which featured the album's artwork.
