The Uyghurs /ˈwiːɡər/ (Uyghur: ئۇيغۇر, ULY: Uyghur ;[ʔʊjˈʁʊː]; Old Turkic: ;Chinese: 维吾尔族; pinyin: Wéiwúěr zú) are a Turkic ethnic group living in Eastern and Central Asia. Today, Uyghurs live primarily in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China, where they are one of 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities.
An estimated 80% of Xinjiang's Uyghurs live in the southwestern portion of the region, the Tarim Basin. Outside Xinjiang, the largest community of Uyghurs in China is in Taoyuan County, in south-central Hunan. Outside of China, significant diasporic communities of Uyghurs exist in the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, and in Turkey. Smaller communities are found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
They practice Islam and are a physically diverse ethnic group ranging from Western Eurasian (Europeans, Middle Eastern) to a more mixed race and East Asian appearance.
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.
The Silk Road or Silk Route is an ancient network of trade routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East from China to the Mediterranean Sea.
The Silk Road derives its name from the lucrative trade in Chinese silk carried out along its length, beginning during the Han dynasty (207 BCE – 220 CE). The Central Asian sections of the trade routes were expanded around 114 BCE by the Han dynasty, largely through the missions and explorations of Chinese imperial envoy, Zhang Qian. The Chinese took great interest in the safety of their trade products and extended the Great Wall of China to ensure the protection of the trade route.
Trade on the Silk Road was a significant factor in the development of the civilizations of China, the Indian subcontinent, Persia, Europe, the Horn of Africa and Arabia, opening long-distance, political and economic relations between the civilizations. Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and religions, syncretic philosophies, and various technologies, as well as diseases, also travelled along the Silk Routes. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a means of carrying out cultural trade among the civilizations along its network.
Chinese can refer to:
The Han Chinese are an ethnic group native to East Asia. They constitute approximately 92% of the population of Mainland China, 93% of the population of Hong Kong, 92% of the population of Macau, 98% of the population of Taiwan, 76.2% of the citizen population of Singapore, 24.5% of the population of Malaysia, and about 19% of the entire global human population, making them the largest ethnic group in the world. The Han Chinese are regarded as a subset of the Chinese nation (Zhonghua minzu). They sometimes refer to themselves as Yan Huang Zisun, meaning the "descendants of (god-emperors) Yan and Huang".
The name Han comes from the Han dynasty, which succeeded the short-lived Qin dynasty. The Han dynasty's founding emperor, Liu Bang (Emperor Gao), was originally known as the king of the region of Hanzhong after which the dynasty was named. The name Hanzhong, in turn, is derived from the Han River, which flows through the Hanzhong Plain (zhong means middle).
"If I go back maybe they’ll put me in prison." More than a thousand Uighur refugees from China now live in Kayseri, Turkey. Central Asian governments are facing pressure from China to clamp down on Uighur demands for their own state. For the eleven million Uighur people who live in China freedom of speech, religion and movement is strictly controlled. But just along the Silk Road, across the border in Kazakhstan, a quarter of a million Uighurs enjoy relative freedom. For Our World Rustam Qobil meets Kazakh Uighurs concerned about China's growing influence in the region.
Chinese officials blame armed groups from the ethnic Muslim Uighur community there for a series of attacks that have killed more than three hundred people this year. In response, the government has imposed many restrictions on Uighurs. Al Jazeera's Adrian Brown reports from Kashgar in Western China. Uighurs in the firing line in China? -Inside Story Uighur Muslims complain of cultural and religious suppression, along with economic marginalisation in China's far western region of Xinjiang. For some, the only escape is to leave. Chinese government leaders accuse Uighur separatists of fomenting what they call "terrorism". Now, Beijing has gone a step further, saying more than 100 Uighurs deported from Thailand on Thursday were heading to join the wars in Syria and Iraq. The UN refugee agency condemns the deportations as a "flagrant violation of international law". Rights groups fear the Uighurs will be tortured back in China. It is adding to a growing controversy surrounding the treatment of Uighurs trying to escape what they say is persecution at home. But should those who have left be...

Chinese officials say the country’s "One Belt, One Road" initiative will start a new wave of globalisation, bringing prosperity to all those involved. The government is also hoping the "New Silk Road" could give an economic boost to one of China's most troubled areas and put an end to what it sees as a security threat from the ethnic Muslim minority Uighur group. The Uighurs have long complained of discrimination by the country's majority Han Chinese. An attack on a busy market in China's troubled Xinjiang region leaves dozens dead.
China says Islamist separatists in Xinjiang are the greatest threat to national security. The far western region is home to a community of some 10 million Uighurs, who are mostly Muslim. Beijing is concerned that young Uighurs are vulnerable to radicalisation. Widespread intimidation makes reporting from the region extremely difficult, but the BBC gained exclusive access to the area.Filmed and edited by Matthew Goddard; Produced by Ashley Semler (BBC, Mar 18, 2017) Trump-Like Anti-Islam Rhetoric Spreads to China (moroccoworldnews, Mar 13, 2017) https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2017/03/210848/trump-like-anti-islam-rhetoric-spreads-china/ More from the archives: China Issues Travel Warning After Turkey Protests https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asgAn6zqB3A China Xinjiang: Police Kill T...
Stories detailing the crackdown against Uighurs in China's Xinjiang region earlier this month quickly spread across the border into Kazakhstan. Many of Kazakhstan's 300,000 Uighurs have relatives in Xinjiang. A representative of a mosque in the city of Almaty says many Kazakhs are shocked by the violence. [Mukhametzhar Khadji, Mosque Council Representative]: "What happened there has absolutely appalled everyone. It reduced people to tears, even the strongest-willed people." Emotions ran so high that community elders had to urge restraint among younger Uighurs looking for revenge. [Baratzhan, Uighur Immigrant to Kazakhstan]: "This is all politics of course. [Uighurs] wanted to resurrect their homeland, but the Chinese have taken all the valuable treasure, the oil, the gold...

China has increased security measures in Xinjiang following more clashes between police and members of the Uighur Muslim ethnic minority group that left dozens of people dead. According to Chinese state media agency Xinhua, the clashes were a premeditated terrorist attack, but a spokesman for the World Uighur Congress said Uighurs were marching in protest against oppressive Chinese policies and restrictions during Ramadan, such as police breaking into Uighurs’ houses, making random arrests, holding detainees for interrogations, and brutally beating people on their way to the mosque. Clashes took place in Shache county, in the townships of Elixku and Huangdi. In Elixku, a group of assailants, wielding knives and axes, attacked a police station and government offices, the South China Mor...

She won't mind, she's got bills to pay
She won't mind, because I come today
Its feels so wrong to be right
She sits tight, in a different way
Pulls my eyes with the words she say
To be is all that she desired
But they didn't love you in our time
Nobody wants you in your life
Bleed and they'll serve you, alive
Words confessed from a memory
I feel them at last when I sing of what used to be
And I sing along like a choir
If I say goodbye to love will it go away
If I say goodbye to love because its here today
And it feels so strong tonight
For the rest of our lives
Fearing the way that will keep us alive
I put my hands to the sky
Pray for a sign if I believed in a god
We lay with our hearts to the floor
Feel from the ground of the earth keep us warm
I put my hands onto your head
As I
Say goodbye to love
I Say goodbye to love
I Say goodbye to love
I Say goodbye to love
They didn't hold you
I cried
Nobody wants you in your life
