ACT NOW

ACT NOW is a Human rights campaign group founded by former British humanitarian aid workers from Sri Lanka against human rights abuses against Tamils. ACT NOW campaigned for a ceasefire, against Tamil internment and later is leading an international boycott Sri Lanka Campaign until Sri Lanka ends human rights abuses against Tamils. It is headed by director Tim Martin a former Aid worker and assistant director Yogi Yogalingham. It also raises and sends aid to Tamils in Sri Lanka

The campaign oversaw the launch of the Mercy Mission to Vanni Aid ship and took part in the 2009 Tamil protests. ACT Now has in its campaign the support of 55 British MPs and Members of the European Parliament. Public figures including Bob Geldoff, Joanna Lumley, Brian May (Queen), M.I.A, Massive Attack, Sian Evans (Kosheen), Chris Steel, Jasmine Guinness (model) Jade Parfitt (model) and Deborah Leng have supported ACT Now's campaign for Tamil victims.

Ben Ferguson

Benjamin Grant Ferguson (born August 28, 1981) is an American radio host, CNN conservative political commentator, and author. His nationally syndicated radio show, The Ben Ferguson Show, formerly aired throughout the United States on Radio America and is now syndicated by ICON Radio Network, of which Ben is the founder and owner, on Sundays from 6 - 9 PM CT.

Early life and education

Ben Ferguson was born to Bruce and Karen Ferguson on August 28, 1981. He has an older sister, Holly. Ferguson was homeschooled by his mother through the tenth grade. Ben has Scottish ancestry. A local talk-radio host throughout his teens, Ferguson attended Tusculum College, but later, graduated from Westminster Academy. He went on to the University of Mississippi, intending to play tennis; he became a member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. He graduated from Ole Miss in 2004. Ben married Anna Bradley Ferguson in March 2010.

He is the youngest nationally syndicated radio personality in the United States. In August 2007, Ferguson joined 600 WREC in Memphis as its morning radio host. He was then moved to the afternoon drive show from 4-7 PM CT. On April 20, 2010, Ferguson resigned from WREC. In a statement he said, "I have left the station, effective today. I’m looking forward to a new market and a new show, in addition to my national show and my continuing appearances on such networks as CNBC, CNN and MSNBC."

Big Ask Campaign

The Big Ask was a campaign by Friends of the Earth calling for a new climate change law in the United Kingdom and 15 other EU member states. The United Kingdom Government announced the introduction of the Climate Change Bill in the Queen's Speech on November 15, 2006. This was after 130,000 people across the country had asked their MP to support such a bill. Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke was a spokesperson for the campaign.

The law that Friends of the Earth are calling for would require the UK Government to cut the amounts of carbon dioxide being released by 3% year on year.

Sister Act

Sister Act is a 1992 American comedy film released by Touchstone Pictures. Directed by Emile Ardolino, it features musical arrangements by Marc Shaiman and stars Whoopi Goldberg as a Reno lounge singer who has been put under protective custody in a San Francisco convent of Poor Clares and has to pretend to be a nun when a mob boss puts her on his hit list. Also in the cast are Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Mary Wickes, and Harvey Keitel.

The film was followed by a 1993 sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. It also inspired the musical Sister Act that premiered at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California in 2006, and opened at the West End's London Palladium with previews from May 7, 2009. The musical then opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre in April 2011, with previews beginning March 24, 2011.

Sister Act was one of the most financially successful comedies of the early 1990s, and was rated #83 on Bravo's The 100 Funniest Movies list.

Plot

The film opens in 1968 at St. Anne's Academy, a California Roman Catholic school, where a young girl named Deloris Wilson is scolded by Sister Immaculata (Lois de Banzie) for wisecracking and disobedience. The setting then changes to the present day, where Deloris Van Cartier is a lounge singer in a 1960s-themed act called The Ronelles (a parody of The Ronettes), who sing at The Moonlite Lounge of the Nevada Club in Reno, Nevada, run by her boyfriend, the mobster Vince LaRocca. After Deloris walks in on Vince having his chauffeur Ernie executed for betrayal, Vince orders his two henchmen Joey and Willy to kill her as well. Deloris flees Vince's casino to the local police station where Lieutenant Eddie Souther suggests she testify against Vince if he can be arrested and tried, but for now, she should go into witness protection until the time comes.
