Russell Simmons delves into the history of how he met Rick Rubin and how their partnership became responsible for building Def Jam. "[Jazzy Jay] brought me Rick Rubin. He said, 'This the n---a who made the record.' 'Him?!' You know he didn't look like the n---a who made the record. Rick had all these drum beats, and Rick was a part of the group The Beastie Boys. I was starting a record company and I was interested in the Beastie Boys." From there Rush says the both of them went in 50/50 to start Def Jam and how Rick's production was a phenomenal aspect to the industry - as Rubin is "the most talented producer in the history of the world."

Going to Def jam was a dope experience. Not many people get the opportunity to walk through those doors so I'm grateful for every time I have a label meeting. If you want something you work hard to get it. A lot of people that usually get signed knows someone that knows someone. So regular people like us have to do whatever it takes to make it through the door. You have to persevere. You have to keep climbing. No matter what the opposition is keep pushing. Rick Rubin
Frederick Jay "Rick" Rubin (born March 10, 1963) is an American record producer and former co-president of Columbia Records. Along with Russell Simmons, Rubin is the co-founder of Def Jam Records and also established American Recordings. With the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy and Run–D.M.C., Rubin helped popularize hip hop music.
Rubin has also worked with artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, The Black Crowes, Slayer, Jay Z, Jake Bugg, Danzig, Dixie Chicks, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Weezer, Linkin Park, The Cult, Neil Diamond, The Avett Brothers, Adele, Joe Strummer, Mick Jagger, System of a Down, The Mars Volta, Rage Against the Machine, Melanie C, Audioslave, Sheryl Crow, ZZ Top, Jakob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Ed Sheeran, Damien Rice, Kanye West, and Eminem. Russell Simmons
Russell Wendell Simmons (born October 4, 1957) is an American business magnate. The Chairman and CEO of Rush Communications cofounded the hip-hop music label Def Jam and created the clothing fashion lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and Tantris. Simmons most recently launched All Def Digital, an original content channel on YouTube with over a million subscribers. Simmons has been described as the third richest figure in hip hop, having a net-worth estimate of $340 million in 2011.
Early life and education
Simmons was born and raised in Queens, New York. His father is a public school administrator and his mother is a New York City park administrator. His brothers are painter Daniel Simmons, Jr., and Rev Run of Run-DMC.
In 1975, after graduating from August Martin High School, Simmons briefly attended the City College of New York in Harlem where he met a young DJ/Bboy, Kurt Walker who would influence him to join in on this new phenomenon called Hip Hop.
In 2014, Claremont Lincoln University awarded Russell Simmons an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters for his work as chairman of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and for promoting mindfulness, compassion and interreligious collaboration in the public sphere.

David Brewster (born June 3, 1988), better known by his stage name Dave East, is an American rapper from Harlem, New York. He gained attention in 2014 from his mixtape Black Rose. Since the release of his mixtape, East has been signed to rapper Nas' label Mass Appeal Records and has made a number of guest appearances. On October 1, 2015, East released his mixtape titled Hate Me Now with features from Nas, Mack Wilds, Pusha T and more.
Early life
David Brewster was born in Harlem, New York and spent most of his life between Harlem and Queensbridge. He is of Bajan and Dominican descent. At a young age Dave had a love for basketball however his true passion was writing rhymes, using his rhymes to keep him above the circumstances around him. After Springbrook High school, Dave attended University of Richmond, then transferring to Towson University where he played in the Amateur Athletic Union with then-future NBA players Ty Lawson, Greivis Vasquez and Kevin Durant while also gaining attention from the NBA but ultimately decided to focus on his music.

If you want something you work hard to get it. A lot of people that usually get signed knows someone that knows someone. So regular people like us have to do whatever it takes to make it through the door. You have to persevere. You have to keep climbing. No matter what the opposition is keep pushing. Going to Def jam was a dope experience. Not many people get the opportunity to walk through those doors so I'm grateful for every time I have a label meeting. If you want something you work hard to get it. A lot of people that usually get signed knows someone that knows someone. So regular people like us have to do whatever it takes to make it through the door. You have to persevere. You have to keep climbing. No matter what the opposition is keep pushing. 26 ans après leur première trace discographique, les membres du groupe marseillais reviennent avec l’album Rêvolution, un peu fleuve (19 morceaux…), et pas inoubliable en terme de production. 26 ans après leur première trace discographique, les membres du groupe marseillais reviennent avec l’album Rêvolution, un peu fleuve (19 morceaux…), et pas inoubliable en terme de production. Mais la recette n’est pas gâchée, l’écriture et le style sont limpides et ils rappent pour de vrai, en prenant le temps de regarder en arrière et de délivrer des leçons de vie. Les marseillais légendaires ne tombent pas dans le jeunisme à tout prix et misent sur les créneaux totalement maîtrisés de l’introspection et de l’identité. Un peu comme une continuité de leur histoire, en assurant un rap d’anciens.
