Martin Sexton (1966) is an American singer-songwriter and producer originally from Syracuse, New York.
Sexton grew up the tenth of twelve children in a working class Irish-American family. He acquired his first guitar, a Sears & Roebuck acoustic model at age 14 and later played in local rock and roll bands. Looking to find his own voice, he left home when he was 22 years old and began busking as a street performer in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Sexton's music blends many genres of American music, including soul, gospel, country, rock, blues, and R&B. He is known for his wide vocal range and ability to improvise. He is also known for beatboxing and scat singing guitar solos. Onstage, he often plays fingerstyle guitar on a Godin model A6 and uses a distortion effect on a 2nd microphone to "sing" solos.
In 2007, his song "Diner" reached a wide TV audience when it appeared in the Scrubs episode "My Night to Remember." Other songs have been featured on NBC's Parenthood "Diggin Me", Showtime's Brotherhood "Can't Stop Thinking Bout You" and others.

In the English language, black sheep is an idiom used to describe an odd or disreputable member of a group, especially within a family. The term stems from the genetic effect in sheep whereby a recessive gene occasionally manifests in the birth of a sheep with black rather than white coloring; these sheep stand out in the flock and their wool was traditionally considered less valuable.
The term has typically been given negative implications, implying waywardness. It derived from the atypical and unwanted presence of other black individuals in flocks of white sheep.
In psychology, the black sheep effect refers to the tendency of group members to judge likeable ingroup members more positively and deviant ingroup member more negatively than comparable outgroup members.
In most sheep, a white fleece is not albinism but a dominant gene that actively switches color production off, thus obscuring any other color that may be present. As a result, a black fleece in most sheep is recessive, so if a white ram and a white ewe are each heterozygous for black, in about 25% of cases they will produce a black lamb. In fact in most white sheep breeds only a few white sheep are heterozygous for black, so black lambs are usually much rarer than this.
Wolfgang's Vault is a private music-focused company established in 2003 dedicated to the restoration and archiving of live concert recordings in audio and video format and the sale of music memorabilia. It began with the collection of the late promoter Bill Graham, and added multiple other music and memorabilia archives. It was called "the most important collection of rock memorabilia and recordings ever assembled in one business," by The Wall Street Journal, Dec 13, 2005.
The name Wolfgang's Vault is inspired by Wolodia "Wolfgang" Grajonca, known widely as Bill Graham. Born Wolodia Grajonca in Berlin in 1931, he escaped Nazi Germany to grow up in a foster home in the Bronx and anglicized his name at the age of 18. His later work as a music promoter is what inspired Wolfgang's Vault.
The company launched its website in November 2003. Later that year, Wolfgang’s Vault released the BG Archive photography collection, and subsequently added collections called "vaults" for: vintage poster art, rock clothing, vintage audio concert recordings. The Video Vault was added in 2011. On August 7, 2012, Wolfgang's Vault announced to its free streaming service users, via email, that it is converting to a subscription based model on August 8, 2012.

Thanks to his incredibly soulful, highly versatile voice, Martin Sexton probably could have made a name for himself as merely a singer. Add in his deft songwriting touch and a distinctive, engaging guitar style, and Sexton becomes a true triple threat. Sexton recently stopped by the AG studios to talk about his latest release, Mixtape of the Open Road, and perform three songs from the album. We also discuss his "toolbox of vocal characters," the development of his guitar approach, and how seeing the late, great Ted Hawkins inspired him to put down his pick for good. Martin Sexton began his career as a street performer in Boston's Harvard Square. Martin Sexton is a Plastic Addict but he is ready for change. He wants a Plastic Free Aisle. Find out more at www.aplasticplanet.com This video is part of A Plastic Planet's #PlasticAddict campaign whose aim is to convince supermarkets to have a aisle where people can shop for items free from plastic packaging. A Plastic Planet is a grass roots organisation with a single aim - a plastic free aisle in supermarkets. We are all plastic addicts, but a growing number of us want to give up our addiction but have no choice on a planet where almost everything is covered in plastic. Every piece of plastic ever made – unless it has been burned – still exists. If we carry on at the current rate of consumption there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans by weight, by 2050, acco...

Oh my maria
seems you got me in your spell once more
must be there's a storm on the way
you taught me to know when you're near
in your glance
recall my shady days of youth
stealing altar wine and microphones
not so blindly fueling my need
as rock and roll fueled my dreams
you know rock and roll fueled my dreams
back then you saw me as this child
in great need of the wildest sin
how sweet your grace i stumbled in
and how completely you waved
as i laughed in your face
oh my maria
oh my maria
how you stood for strength and sanity
now is there someone poking holes in thee
i see now why you called me near
maria my song can you hear
i know you see the silence on the sidewalk
and the anger in the street
and the voices of all these children
coming up to my feet
and we sing your song in vain
as some preacher sees his reign
come down
maria
oh my sweet, maria
in the silence on the hill
you know i'll be dreaming of you still
maria, oh my maria
i sing for my maria
