Grace Barnsley
Emily Grace Barnsley (3 October 1896 – 6 March 1975), known as Grace Barnsley or by her married name, Grace Davies, was an English pottery decorator.
She was born near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Her father was the architect and furniture maker Sidney Barnsley and her younger brother was the designer Edward Barnsley. Grace learned how to paint pottery when she was a girl. She and her brother were educated at Bedales School and she then attended Birmingham School of Art before becoming a freelance painter for Wedgwood. In 1926 she married Oscar Davies, a merchant navy officer, and in 1934 they moved to Rainham, Kent. They opened a café, where they also sold pottery decorated by Grace. In 1938 they took over the local Upchurch Pottery and renamed it the Roeginga Pottery, producing their own pottery which Grace continued to decorate. These businesses were closed at the outbreak of World War II in 1939 however, and Grace never painted commercially again.
There are samples of Grace Barnsley's work at the National Trust property, Stoneywell, Leicestershire.

Davies is a spelling variation of the patronymic Welsh surname Davis, that means David, a Hebrew name meaning "beloved". Davies is much associated with Wales, owing to the name of its patron saint, David, and where it is pronounced "DAY-viss". Davies is also fairly widespread in the south-west of England, especially Cornwall. Davies is the 2nd most common surname in Wales and 8th most common in England. The X Factor
The X Factor is a television music competition franchise created by Simon Cowell. It originated in the United Kingdom, where it was devised as a replacement for Pop Idol (2001–2003). It is held in various countries. The programmes are produced by executive producer Simon Cowell and his company SYCOtv. The "X Factor" of the title refers to the undefinable "something" that makes for star quality. The prize is usually a recording contract, in addition to the publicity that appearance in the later stages of the show itself generates, not only for the winner but also for other highly ranked contestants.
The similarities between The X Factor and Idols prompted Idol creator Simon Fuller, along with 19 Entertainment, to file a lawsuit against Cowell, SYCOtv, and FremantleMedia in 2004. An out-of-court settlement was reached in 2005 allowing Fuller to gain a 10% share in The X Factor format, and preventing an American version until 2010. Fuller later filed another lawsuit in 2011, claiming that he had also been promised that he would be credited as an executive producer of The X Factor USA, but that Syco, FremantleMedia, and Fox Broadcasting Company had failed to fulfill that promise; that lawsuit is pending.

The X Factor (UK TV series)
The X Factor is a British reality television music competition to find new singing talent, contested by aspiring singers drawn from public auditions. Created by Simon Cowell, the show began in 2004 and has since aired annually from August/September until December. The show is produced by FremantleMedia's Thames (previously Talkback Thames) and Cowell's production company Syco TV. It is broadcast on the ITV network in the United Kingdom and simulcast on TV3 in Ireland. The "X Factor" refers to the undefinable "something" that makes for star quality.
The show is currently presented by Olly Murs and Caroline Flack. The series consists of auditions, bootcamp, judges' houses, several weeks of live shows, semi-finals and the final. After the show's success, it then became an international franchise following a similar format. The series has a spin-off behind-the-scenes show called The Xtra Factor, which airs directly after the main show on ITV2.
History
The X Factor was created by Sony Music A&R judge Simon Cowell as a replacement for Pop Idol. Cowell, who was a judge on Pop Idol, wished to launch a show to which he owned the television rights.Pop Idol's first series was massively successful, and while the second series was also successful, the viewing figures for its finale dropped. Some—including Cowell's fellow Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman— considered Michelle McManus an unworthy winner. In 2004, ITV announced a new show created by Cowell, with no involvement from Pop Idol creator Simon Fuller—The X Factor. The perceived similarity between the two shows later became the subject of a legal dispute.

Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin draw distinction between title fight and Mayweather-McGregor Now that the massively hyped Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight is in the books and the circus has left town, boxing fans can turn their attention to the real fight: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin. Mayweather came out of retirement at age 40 and easily dispatched McGregor, a UFC champion, who was crossing over to boxing to make his pro debut, via 10th-round knockout on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight intrigued millions because of the novelty of an all-time great boxer, Mayweather, taking on one of the best mixed martial artists, McGregor. But Alvarez-Golovkin is a different story. There is no novelty. It is a serious fight between two of the world's elite pound-for-pound boxers, for the unified and lineal middleweight world championship in a match most expect to be highly competitive and filled with action. They meet on Sept. 16 (HBO PPV, 8 p.m.) in the same T-Mobile Arena where Mayweather beat McGregor, but the fight has been largely overshadowed since June by the specter of Mayweather-McGregor. With that fight out of the way, promoters Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions and Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions got cracking on Monday. They have three weeks to rev the promotion into high gear, and it began with Alvarez and Golovkin conducting open workouts before a crowd of more than 1,000 fans outdoors at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, where the promoters ripped the Mayweather-McGregor fight as a sideshow and the boxers talked about the anticipation of their bout. Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin draw distinction between title fight and Mayweather-McGregor
Now that the massively hyped Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight is in the books and the circus has left town, boxing fans can turn their attention to the real fight: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin.
Mayweather came out of retirement at age 40 and easily dispatched McGregor, a UFC champion, who was crossing over to boxing to make his pro debut, via 10th-round knockout on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight intrigued millions because of the novelty of an all-time great boxer, Mayweather, taking on one of the best mixed martial artists, McGregor.
But Alvarez-Golovkin is a different story. There is no novelty. It is a serious fight between two of the world's elite pound-for-pound boxers, for the unified and lineal middleweight world championship in a match most expect to be highly competitive and filled with action.
They meet on Sept. 16 (HBO PPV, 8 p.m.) in the same T-Mobile Arena where Mayweather beat McGregor, but the fight has been largely overshadowed since June by the specter of Mayweather-McGregor. With that fight out of the way, promoters Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions and Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions got cracking on Monday.
They have three weeks to rev the promotion into high gear, and it began with Alvarez and Golovkin conducting open workouts before a crowd of more than 1,000 fans outdoors at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, where the promoters ripped the Mayweather-McGregor fight as a sideshow and the boxers talked about the anticipation of their bout.

Joseph Diaz Jr. and Jorge Lara will square off in a featherweight world title elimination bout Sept. 16 in the co-feature of the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin middleweight world championship fight in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions announced on Monday.
De La Hoya, who lost a decision to Mayweather in 2007 and has had an ongoing feud with him, said he didn't watch Saturday's fight, which he relentlessly criticized from the moment it was announced.
"I just thought it was a fraud, and I still think it's a fraud,'' De La Hoya said.
Said Loeffler, "We were all pretty convinced that Floyd would win. We were just hoping that it wouldn't be a disaster where people were going to say, 'We're never going to buy another pay-per-view.'"
Mayweather-McGregor turned out to be an entertaining bout, and now De La Hoya and Loeffler are hoping that those who enjoyed Saturday's spectacle will also be moved to buy their event, which figures to be much more competitive.
"I'm glad that so many people bought the fight so they can see what boxing is all about, and what boxing is all about is Sept. 16th with Canelo and Triple G,'' De La Hoya said.

Now that the massively hyped Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight is in the books and the circus has left town, boxing fans can turn their attention to the real fight: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin.
Mayweather came out of retirement at age 40 and easily dispatched McGregor, a UFC champion, who was crossing over to boxing to make his pro debut, via 10th-round knockout on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight intrigued millions because of the novelty of an all-time great boxer, Mayweather, taking on one of the best mixed martial artists, McGregor.
But Alvarez-Golovkin is a different story. There is no novelty. It is a serious fight between two of the world's elite pound-for-pound boxers, for the unified and lineal middleweight world championship in a match most expect to be highly competitive and filled with action.
They meet on Sept. 16 (HBO PPV, 8 p.m.) in the same T-Mobile Arena where Mayweather beat McGregor, but the fight has been largely overshadowed since June by the specter of Mayweather-McGregor. With that fight out of the way, promoters Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions and Tom Loeffler of GGG Promotions got cracking on Monday.
They have three weeks to rev the promotion into high gear, and it began with Alvarez and Golovkin conducting open workouts before a crowd of more than 1,000 fans outdoors at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, where the promoters ripped the Mayweather-McGregor fight as a sideshow and the boxers talked about the anticipation of their bout.

Joseph Diaz Jr. and Jorge Lara will square off in a featherweight world title elimination bout Sept. 16 in the co-feature of the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin middleweight world championship fight in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions announced on Monday.
De La Hoya, who lost a decision to Mayweather in 2007 and has had an ongoing feud with him, said he didn't watch Saturday's fight, which he relentlessly criticized from the moment it was announced.
"I just thought it was a fraud, and I still think it's a fraud,'' De La Hoya said.
Said Loeffler, "We were all pretty convinced that Floyd would win. We were just hoping that it wouldn't be a disaster where people were going to say, 'We're never going to buy another pay-per-view.'"
Mayweather-McGregor turned out to be an entertaining bout, and now De La Hoya and Loeffler are hoping that those who enjoyed Saturday's spectacle will also be moved to buy their event, which figures to be much more competitive.
"I'm glad that so many people bought the fight so they can see what boxing is all about, and what boxing is all about is Sept. 16th with Canelo and Triple G,'' De La Hoya said.

This is the one jazz record owned by people who don't listen to jazz, and with good reason. The band itself is extraordinary (proof of Miles Davis's masterful casting skills, if not of God's existence), listing John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans (or, on "Freddie Freeloader," Wynton Kelly) on piano, and the crack rhythm unit of Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Coltrane's astringency on tenor is counterpoised to Adderley's funky self on alto, with Davis moderating between them as Bill Evans conjures up a still lake of sound on which they walk. Meanwhile, the rhythm partnership of Cobb and Chambers is prepared to click off time until eternity. It was the key recording of what became modal jazz, a music free of the fixed harmonies and forms of pop songs. Nevada's Board of Geographic Names is reviewing a pair of proposals to change the name of the remote peak near the Utah line named after Confederate leader Jefferson Davis, and a federal panel that would have the final say about re-designating Jeff Davis Peak already is researching one of the ideas ... Davis' name originally graced a neighboring mountain now known as Wheeler Peak, Nevada's second-highest point at 13,063 feet....
