Ratkovo Mountain Shelter (1174 m) in Southeast of Mrkopalj in the massif of Velika Kapela, Croatia
Wooden log cabin located in a semi-cave beneath the cliffs which overlooks a natural roof. Water is collected in cisterns. Named after Ratko Čapek “Conqueror of the White Rocks,” a climber who died in the Alps. The Rocks of Bijele and Samarske stijene are habitat of the rare alpine salamander and viviparous lizard, reptiles that give birth to live young rather than lying eggs.
