Arena 2017 Residency Program

Arena is offering two residencies for the latter half of 2017 and will be based out of the Arena project space located on Kerr St, Fitzroy in Melbourne, Victoria.

Residencies, which include a $500 stipend, have been created with emerging/younger writers and individuals who are thinking deeply about contemporary global/local issues in mind. The residencies will provide the space and resources to research and develop ideas that explore or interrogate social, cultural, or political phenomenon from a critical perspective. The residency will culminate in a written non-fiction article and be submitted to either the Arena Magazine or Journal for publication. The article may contain original visual content, or the like.

Residency holders will have the opportunity to meet and work with an array of individuals who are involved in the production of the Arena Magazine and Journal, as well as access to the library collection of critical theory journals and books.

Arena will introduce the work and ideas of residency holders to the public by featuring both the writer and project both on our website and in print.

The Summary:
16 week access to the Arena Project Space including:

  • $500 stipend
  • Desk/internet/printing facilities provided
  • Critical Journals Library
  • Editing assistance/mentoring
  • Publication in Arena Journal or Magazine

Residency Requirements:
The residencies are open to individuals based in (or near) Melbourne. It is expected that successful applicants will make use of the Arena project space, and associated library, and that at the end of the residency a suitable non-fiction piece of writing will be submitted for publication in one of the Arena publications. It would be great to receive your application before Midnight Friday 18th August 2017.
