Herschel Bernardi (October 30, 1923 – May 9, 1986) was an American film, stage, and television actor.
Born in New York City, into the Yiddish theatre, the younger son of Berel Bernardi and Helen Bernardi, Herschel was appearing on the stages of 2nd Avenue with his acting family before he could talk. In the 1930s, Bernardi appeared in the Yiddish films of Edgar G. Ulmer and was later among those actors who made the transition from Yiddish-speaking roles in film to American films. Herschel was the brother of Jack Bernardi (who played Harvey Pulp in "It's a Bikini World)."
Bernardi is known for his starring roles on Broadway, including Fiddler on the Roof (as Tevye), Zorba, and Bajour, but he also acted in many television programs, including Harbor Command and The Eleventh Hour (both with Wendell Corey) and State Trooper with Rod Cameron.
From 1958-1961 Bernardi co-starred with Craig Stevens in Blake Edwards' popular television series Peter Gunn. He received his sole Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Lieutenant Jacoby.
Lola Jean Albright (born July 20, 1924) is an American singer and actress.
Albright was born in Akron, Ohio, to John Paul and Marion (née Harvey) Albright, both of whom were gospel music singers. She attended King Grammar School and West High School. She worked as a model before moving to Hollywood, studied piano for 20 years and worked as a receptionist at radio station WAKR in Akron, beginning when she was 15. At 18, she moved to Cleveland and was a stenographer at WTAM radio. Her first radio performance came on WJW in Cleveland.
Albright's motion picture career began with a bit part in the 1947 film The Unfinished Dance, and gained notice in the 1949 film Champion. For the next several years, she appeared in secondary roles in over twenty films, including several 'B' Westerns.
Albright's roles in major films included Elvis Presley's 1962 film Kid Galahad; the 1964 French film Les Felins (director René Clément), and the 1967 western epic The Way West.
Peter Gunn is an American private eye television series which aired on the NBC and later ABC television networks from 1958 to 1961. The show's creator (and also writer and director on occasion) was Blake Edwards. It was also directed by Boris Sagal, Robert Gist, Jack Arnold, Lamont Johnson, one episode by Robert Altman, and several others. A total of 114 thirty-minute episodes were produced by Spartan Productions. Season one was filmed at Universal Studios, seasons two and three were filmed at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Philip H. Lathrop and William W. Spencer were cinematographers on many episodes. Craig Stevens' wardrobe was tailored by Don Richards and Lola Albright's fashions by Jax.
The series is probably best remembered today for its music, especially the popular "Peter Gunn Theme", which won an Emmy Award and two Grammys for Henry Mancini and subsequently has been performed and recorded by many jazz, rock, and blues musicians. The series was No. 17 in the Nielsen ratings for the 1958–1959 TV season.
Craig Stevens (born Gail Shickles, Jr.; July 8, 1918 – May 10, 2000) was an American film and television actor.
Born Gail Shikles, Jr., in Liberty, Missouri, his father was a high school teacher and elementary school principal in Kansas City, Missouri. Stevens studied dentistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, from which he received a bachelor's degree in 1936.
Acting with the university's drama club prompted him to halt his studies and instead to audition in the Hollywood film industry. After first using "Michael Gale" (a play on his first name), his first screen role was a sailor in Coast Guard. After his debut in a small role in 1939, he adopted the stage name Craig Stevens. For the next period of his film career, he played mainly secondary parts.
He and his future wife, Alexis Smith, both appear in the 1941 film, Dive Bomber". They are not in any scene together. It is unknown whether or not they knew each other at that time.
During World War II, Stevens served in the United States Army Air Corps First Motion Picture Unit based in Culver City, California, acting in propaganda and training films. The unit came to be known as "The Culver City Commandos".

Henry Mancini and His Orchestra perform "Dreamsville, from the American private eye television series "Peter Gunn" which aired on the NBC (produced by Revue Productions) and later ABC (produced by MGM Television) television networks from 1958 to 1961. I recorded this track from the double LP, "This Is Henry Mancini," RCA (VPS-6029). The show's creator (and also writer and director on occasion) was Blake Edwards. "David Hertzberg"
Peter Gunn Theme:Henry Mancini TV Crime Drama Series(1958-1961)
Most memorable of all was the show's opening (and closing) "Peter Gunn Theme", composed by Henry Mancini. The theme is based on a boogie-woogie piano bass line in the key of F minor, using the 1, 2, ?3, and 4 intervals, the first four notes of almost all minor scales. The use of the minor third, combined with the exclusion of the major third, gives the theme its minor tonality which creates a mood of suspense and foreboding. Unlike a traditional boogie-woogie, there are no chord changes. The theme remains on the F minor chord, with melodic interest created by using jazzy horn riffs. The song became an instant hit for Mancini, earning him an Emmy Award and two Grammys, and became as associated with crime fiction as Monty Norman's theme to the James Bond films is associated with espionage...

Some wonderful soul put together this collection of clips from Blake Edwards' 1967 film "Gunn," a big-screen adaptation of his 1958-1961 TV series, "Peter Gunn." Both starred Craig Stevens as a jazz-loving private eye. The theme music was composed, of course, by Henry Mancini.

Every night your line is busy
All that buzzin' makes me dizzy
Couldn't count on all my fingers
All the dates you had with swingers
Bye, bye, bye, baby
I'm gonna kiss you goodbye and go right through that doorway
So long, I'm leaving
This is the last time we'll meet on the street going your way
Don't look surprised, you know you've buttered your bread
So now it's fair, you should stare at the back of my head
If you write a letter to me
My former friend, don't you end with an R.S.V.P.
I'm going bye, bye, I'm moving
Tomorrow I may be splittin' to Britain or Norway
I'm saying bye, bye, bye baby
Now that I heard all that jazzing whereas I have had it, I've had it
I'm through now with you now
So baby it's au revouir
