The tables below represent statistics with regard to the Catholic Church by country.
Most of the figures are taken from the CIA Factbook or PEW Research Center Surveys.
According to the CIA Factbook and the Pew Research Center, the five countries with the largest number of Catholics are, in decreasing order of population, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, the United States, and Italy.
The country where the membership of the church is the largest percentage of the population is Vatican City at 100%.
According to the Census of the 2015 Annuario Pontificio (Pontifical Yearbook), the number of Catholics in the world was about 1.254 billion at the end of 2013.
The CIA Factbook data might not necessarily be accurate. According to a 2013 research conducted by a Brazilian institute (Datafolha) the percentage of the population in Brazil of Catholic religion, over the age of 16 years, is just 57%, well in contrast to the 64.63% published by CIA and to the 61% of Pew Research Center Surveys, 2014. Also, the 2010 Mexican Census showed this percentage to be 83.9% - against a 91.89% number in the CIA Factbook.

Belief in God is slowly declining in most countries around the world, according to a new poll, but the truest of the true believers can still be found in developing countries and Catholic societies. The "Beliefs about God Across Time and Countries" report, released 18 April by researchers at the University of Chicago, found the Philippines to be the country with the highest proportion of believers, where 94 percent of Filipinos said they were strong believers who had always believed. At the opposite end, at just 13 percent, was the former East Germany, Religion News Service reports. "The Philippines is both developing and Catholic," said Tom W. Smith, who directs the General Social Survey of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. "Religion, which is mainly Cat...

Steve Humphries' Sex in a Cold Climate , a documentary denouncing the Magdalene Asylums, which were operated by Catholic nuns in Ireland for over 100 years, caused an uproar when it was televised in England in March 1998 as part of Channel Four's Witness series. An estimated three million people watched the documentary, one of the highest figures ever recorded for the series. A help line was set up, which received calls from almost 450 women who had experienced abuse and trauma through the Magdalene Asylums and the Catholic Church. The documentary was blacklisted by the Irish network RTE and to this date has never been officially aired in Ireland. Mr. Humphries has produced over 80 social-history documentaries and written 20 books based on ordinary people's life stories. But he insists th...
Although present in numerous countries throughout the world, living as a member of a Secular Institute remains one of the least understood forms of consecrated life in the Catholic Church. Members of these institutes have one simple purpose: to live their consecrated lives in the same conditions as other laymen and laywomen. Like leaven, they invisibly transform society from the inside out through the values of the Gospel. 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Oblate Missionaries of Mary-Immaculate, a Secular Institute founded on Canadian soil and established in many countries across the globe. During this edition of Catholic Focus, we relive the celebrations for this important anniversary and we explore more deeply the life and mission of members of the Oblate Missionar...
For most of his Pontificate, Pope Francis has promoted Islam. Instead of warning people against the onslaught of Muslims across the world, Francis has left unaddressed Islamic persecution of European, Middle Eastern, and African people. Francis’s promotion of Islam is horrendous. The world is made quite aware of the negative influences upon societies as Muslim immigrants coming from places like Syria cause, as they pours into countries like Germany and Sweden. Our video on the Roman Church endorsing Islam in face of the disgust that has been experienced needs to be seen. Thus we ask that you forward its URL to many others, and if possible, that you have it posted on Internet websites. Thank you. WASHINGTON — Pope Francis waved to cheering crowds, embraced children and basked in the pageantry of a city that essentially shut down to welcome him Wednesday. The slate of official events, which kicked off at a White House welcome ceremony that included a crowd of thousands, rows of dignitaries and hint of politics, ended hours later when more than 25,000 people cheered the pope as he arrived to deliver a Mass on the grounds of Catholic University. Documentary In two tours around the streets of Washington, the pope stood in a glass booth mounted on a white Jeep, waving to well-wishers thronging the sidewalks. He did not get out of the vehicle on either occasion, but during a 15-minute parade near the White House, guards brought two children from the crowd to him for an embrace. The ce...
