This Week In Palestine: Confronting the Balfour Consequences (2nd panel in the conference), Segment 1

16 hours 20 minutes ago
This is the THIRD of our four segments recorded at the conference titled "Balfour’s Legacy: Confronting the Consequences," held on November 11th at the First Parish Church in Cambridge MA. This conference commemorated the 100th anniversary of the so-called Balfour Declaration, a 67-word letter in 1917 signed by Lord Arthur Balfour, then Britain's Foreign Secretary. It's credited with setting in motion the creation of the state of Israel on Palestinian land, without consulting Palestinians. Two weeks ago we presented Yousef Munayyer's keynote address. Last week we presented the first of three panels, with the title "Balfour, Israel and Palestine." Today we present the 2nd of three panels, with the title "Confronting the Balfour Consequences." The three speakers and their subjects are as follows: Amahl Bishara, Tufts University Consequences for Palestinians Anat Biletzki, Quinnipiac University Consequences for Israel and the Jewish people Rami Khouri, American University in Beirut Consequences for the Middle East Because of radio time constraints, our presentation of the fourth speaker, Nancy Murray (Consequences for the USA), is postponed until next week. This panel was facilitated by Thomas Abowd, Tufts University, and recorded by our associate, Noble Larson.
