Bob Dylan (/ˈdɪlən/; born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, artist and writer. He has been influential in popular music and culture for more than five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when his songs chronicled social unrest, although Dylan repudiated suggestions from journalists that he was a spokesman for his generation. Nevertheless, early songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements. After he left his initial base in the American folk music revival, his six-minute single "Like a Rolling Stone" altered the range of popular music in 1965. His mid-1960s recordings, backed by rock musicians, reached the top end of the United States music charts while also attracting denunciation and criticism from others in the folk movement.

Dylan's lyrics have incorporated various political, social, philosophical, and literary influences. They defied existing pop music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture. Initially inspired by the performances of Little Richard, and the songwriting of Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams, Dylan has amplified and personalized musical genres. His recording career, spanning 50 years, has explored the traditions in American song—from folk, blues, and country to gospel, rock and roll, and rockabilly to English, Scottish, and Irish folk music, embracing even jazz and the Great American Songbook. Dylan performs with guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. Backed by a changing line-up of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s on what has been dubbed the Never Ending Tour. His accomplishments as a recording artist and performer have been central to his career, but songwriting is considered his greatest contribution.

Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone is a biweekly magazine that focuses on popular culture. It was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner, who is still the magazine's publisher, and music critic Ralph J. Gleason. It was first known for its musical coverage and for political reporting by Hunter S. Thompson. In the 1990s, the magazine shifted focus to a younger readership interested in youth-oriented television shows, film actors, and popular music. In recent years, it has resumed its traditional mix of content.

History

Rolling Stone magazine was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner. To get it off the ground, Wenner borrowed $7,500 from his own family and from the parents of his soon-to-be wife, Jane Schindelheim. The first issue carried a cover date of November 9, 1967, and was in newspaper format with a lead article on the Monterey Pop Festival. The cover price was 35¢ (equivalent to $2.48 today).

In the first issue, Wenner explained that the title of the magazine referred to the 1950 blues song, "Rollin' Stone", recorded by Muddy Waters, the rock and roll band the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan's hit single "Like a Rolling Stone". Some authors have attributed the name solely to Dylan's hit single: "At [Ralph] Gleason's suggestion, Wenner named his magazine after a Bob Dylan song."Rolling Stone initially identified with and reported the hippie counterculture of the era. However, it distanced itself from the underground newspapers of the time, such as Berkeley Barb, embracing more traditional journalistic standards and avoiding the radical politics of the underground press. In the very first edition, Wenner wrote that Rolling Stone "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces".

Self-portrait

A self-portrait is a representation of an artist, drawn, painted, photographed, or sculpted by that artist. Although self-portraits have been made by artists since the earliest times, it is not until the Early Renaissance in the mid-15th century that artists can be frequently identified depicting themselves as either the main subject, or as important characters in their work. With better and cheaper mirrors, and the advent of the panel portrait, many painters, sculptors and printmakers tried some form of self-portraiture. Portrait of a Man in a Turban by Jan van Eyck of 1433 may well be the earliest known panel self-portrait. He painted a separate portrait of his wife, and he belonged to the social group that had begun to commission portraits, already more common among wealthy Netherlanders than south of the Alps. The genre is venerable, but not until the Renaissance, with increased wealth and interest in the individual as a subject, did it become truly popular.

Types

A self-portrait may be a portrait of the artist, or a portrait included in a larger work, including a group portrait. Many painters are said to have included depictions of specific individuals, including themselves, in painting figures in religious or other types of composition. Such paintings were not intended publicly to depict the actual persons as themselves, but the facts would have been known at the time to artist and patron, creating a talking point as well as a public test of the artist's skill.

Hello everyone, New video for today, from the 2017 US Fall Tour. The taper Spot found a way to record the final night of the five shows residency at the magnificent and historical Beacon Theatre. Bob has been to the Beacon multiple times throughout his career, with always incredible shows. This is certainly one of his best. The performances were so good you won't believe your hears. If you're a fan of his current voice, this is a show to be treasured. All the reviews are glowing and I cannot agree more. The set hasn't moved an inch but each song is sublime. Also Mavis Staple made a thundering performance. You really need to hear her new album If All I Was Was Black. I hope you will love what you hear. Below is the review made by boblinks.com. Mavis was on fire and I finally got yo hear her fo The Wright. Fantastic set from beginning to end. She truly is a national treasure. Aktor muda Iqbaal Dhiafakhri Ramadhan beberapa waktu yang lalu baru saja terpilih menjadi pemeran utama dalam film yang diadaptasi dari novel berjudul 'Dilan' karya Pidi Baiq. Hingga kini, pro dan kontra atas terpilihnya pria berusia 17 tahun tersebut menjadi tokoh Dilan masih berlanjut. Namun, Iqbaal terlihat santai dan tak menanggapi orang-orang yang memandangnya sebelah mata. "Dari sebelumnya, dia (Pidi Baiq) udah bilang, 'Nanti kalau misalnya ada yang enggak suka kamu jadi Dilan, santai aja, Bal'. Jadi ya, tetap semangat lah!," ungkap Iqbaal ketika dijumpai di kantor Falcon Pictures, Duren Tiga, Jakarta Selatan. Tinggal satu hari lagi sebelum syuting pertama film Dilan dilaksanakan di Bandung, Jawa Barat. Segala macam persiapan telah dilakukan Iqbaal agar proses syutingnya berjalan lancar. Mulai dari melakukan proses reading, adaptasi dengan motor Dilan, bahkan sampai berlatih fighting. "Tiap hari reading, tiap hari workshop motor, kemarin latihan fighting terakhir. Nanti di Bandung fighting lagi, H-1 sebelum scene-nya," terang personel CJR tersebut. "Buat fighting-nya sendiri, kemarin ditanganin sama Piranha team, yang sempat bikin film Merantau sama The Raid 1. Pegel ya.. Pemanasan aja sudah 20 menit sendiri. Dilan juga punya julukan sebagai 'Panglima Tempur'. Bahkan demi mendalami peran sebagai seorang anggota geng motor, Iqbaal sampai harus terjun langsung ke dalam geng motor ternama di Bandung. "Sebenarnya kalau masuk geng motor sendiri sudah, dari workshop sebulan lalu. Pas sudah tahu jadi Dilan, langsung dibawa ke Bandung. Terus diajak sama ayah (Pidi Baiq) ketemu geng motornya. Besok juga mau ketemu lagi sama geng motornya, sama ayah juga," jelas Iqbaal. Menurut pelantun 'Sampaikan Sayangku untuk Dia' ini maksud dan tujuannya berbaur dengan anak-anak geng motor, supaya ia bisa lebih mendalami peran. Ia harus tahu apa yang dilakukan anak-anak geng motor saat sedang berkumpul bersama. Jadi gue dikasih kepercayaan enggak cuma dari ayah tapi juga dari geng motor sendiri. So Insya Allah lah (lancar)," katanya. Lalu kira-kira, bagaimana ya pandangan Iqbaal selama ini terhadap geng motor? "Selama ini, persepsi orang-orang yang harus dilurusin. Geng motor kan kelihatannya kayak, wah! bandel, galak, awut-awutan. Padahal enggak gitu juga, sih." "Kalau emang geng motornya keren, jadi organisasi ya keren-keren aja, justru, bisa keliling Bandung, bisa keliling Indonesia. Hello everyone, Today I present a new compilation of studio material, as a bit of change from the 2017 tour. As you may know, after the 1966 Tour, Bob crashed his motorcycle and stopped touring for almost a decade with a few exceptions (a tribute to Woody Guthrie in 1968, two festivals in 1969, one appearance for the Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, and a guest appearance for the new year's eve show of the Band the same year). When the world came almost tumbling down in 1968, everyone went looking for Dylan "the folk hero, the protest singer, the prophet, the voice of his generation", but no one found him and he didn't answer the calls. During that time, he had fun with his mates between upstate New York, Nashville, and New York City. He tried out new things, way outside the political trauma that was going on in the whole world, from San Francisco to Prague. Some were successful, even highlights of his career (John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline), others received scathing reviews (Self Portrait and the infamous Rolling Stone review by Greil Marcus). The Basement Tapes were officially released in 2014 as a Bootleg Series, and the 1969-1971 was covered by Another Self Portrait: the Bootleg Series Vol. 10. However, a lot of material hasn't been used for the second release. One set of tapes was even the center of a legal battle between a small record label in New Jersey and Sony Music . These tapes were nicknamed the "Warehouse Tapes" since they were stored in a warehouse for more than 20 years until 1995 when the legal dispute did ensue. It finally surfaced in 2012 and contains some alternate takes and remixes of Nashville Skyline, outtakes of Self Portrait and lots of other cool stuffs. I decided to make a compilation of that material (the part allowed by Youtube at least) and the classic Dylan/Cash session of the same period. It gives another look at a controversial time where Bob did go full country music with ups and downs. Plot: In the comedy Daddy Day Care, two fathers lose their jobs in product development at a large food company and are forced to take their sons out of the exclusive Chapman Academy and become stay-at-home fathers. With no job possibilities on the horizon, the two dads open their own day care facility, "Daddy Day Care", and employ some fairly unconventional and sidesplitting methods of caring for children. As "Daddy Day Care" starts to catch on, it launches them into a highly comedic rivalry with Chapman Academy's tough-as-nails director... who has driven all previous competitors out of business.
