Chris Lever has been involved with organising the London Zine Symposium – in one way or another – since it started in 2005. Here he recounts the happy headaches the Symposium has given him and why he keeps doing it. It’s one of the many stories and comics that are in the London Zine Symposium book, Tales from the first five years!

From Rebel Yell! To Rebel $ell:

September 17th, 2008 · posted by Chris Lever · marked as: Articles · DIY sounds and images

This is a tale of how our counterculture is rapidly finding its way to the sales counter, and of how our desire to rebel has caught the attention of marketing mavens keen to co-opt our tactics. After exploring some examples of corporate enterprises striving to offer dissenters ‘new clothes,’

Let’s get WASTED again!

April 4th, 2007 · posted by Chris Lever · marked as: Columns

Hi there. My name’s Chris, I’m twenty-three and I have a confession to make. Whilst it might be a slight faux pas on my account to own up to this in front of all you streetwise professors, I went to Morecambe in the summer of 2004 for the first time in my life. It was great…

The HorrorPops

February 11th, 2004 · posted by Chris Lever · marked as: Interviews

The HorrorPops came pretty much out of nowhere. There aren’t many bands out at the moment with a upright bass. Fewer still play refreshing rockabilly punk rock, with a heavy nod back to surf, that makes you smile ever single time that you hear their record. It’s like the Teen Idols reformed, improved by about [...]

Part One – as interviewed by Edd at the London Garage.
RN: Does it surprise you to be able to come all this way and be able to play these kind of venues?
E: It’s weird – I’ll wait to see how many people show up though! But, no, it is weird, the last couple of times [...]

Obviously we don’t agree on what’s obscene

February 5th, 2004 · posted by Chris Lever · marked as: Articles · Columns

“Obviously we Don’t Agree on What’s Obscene” Vanilla Sex by NOFX
It’s time the porn wars ended, and the argument within feminism moved on to another level of tolerance and exploration.
