What We Do

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, working in 177 countries and territories. UNDP opened its representative office in Ulaanbaatar in 1973 after more than a decade of successful cooperation with Mongolia. Ever since, UNDP has worked for equitable and sustainable development for the benefit of all Mongolians. UNDP is committed to helping the Government and the people of Mongolia achieve its nine national Millennium Development Goals as well as other national development priorities.

Our Goals

The goal of UNDP is to improve the lives of the people of Mongolia, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and to work towards a future that offers equality, dignity and opportunity for all.

Projects and Initiatives

  • Ecosystem-based Adaptation Approach to Maintaining Water Security in Critical Water Catchments in Mongolia

    The project objective is to maintain the water provisioning services supplied by mountains and steppe ecosystems by internalizing climate change risks within land and water resource management regimes. The project aims at alleviating vulnerabilities and dismantling identified barriers by implementing three interconnected components:more 

  • Youth empowerment through civic education

    This project aims to contribute to deepening of democracy in Mongolia through addressing the issue of youth empowerment and participation. This is the first project of UNDP Mongolia which has a specific focus on youth. Formal civic education curriculum reviewed and updated with a focus on democratic citizenship and human rights; Increased youth voice in policy making through community based civic experience; Better understanding of the youth of the dynamics of democratic conflict resolution; and the importance of active political participation.more 

  • Strengthening the Government Capacity of National Development Policy and Planning

    The project aims at providing support to the Government of Mongolia to improve its economic policy formulation, strategic planning and monitoring both at the national and local level and guide the preparation of various planning documents to ensure better coordination and harmonization of long-medium and short-term planning in the country.more
