'Thank you for allowing us to be your parents': Masked rapper MF Doom pays emotional tribute to son who died at just 14-years-old

MF Doom's teenage son has passed away.

The 46-year-old British-born rapper and record producer from New York took to Instagram on Monday to pay a touching tribute to his child.

The Rhymes Like Dimes artist - real name Daniel Dumile - shared a snap of himself holding up a passport photo.

Along with the image he wrote an emotional message which read: 'KING MALACHI EZEKIEL DUMILE 2/22/03 - 12/18/17 THE GREATEST SON ONE COULD ASK FOR.

'SAFE JOURNEY AND MAY ALL OUR ANCESTORS GREET YOU WITH OPEN ARMS. ONE OF OUR GREATEST INSPIRATIONS. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO BE YOUR PARENTS. LOVE YOU MALI.'

The cause of death is still unclear. Doom is a relatively private person despite his work in entertainment.

Many of Doom's fans offered their condolences on the post as one wrote: 'Rest in Peace n Power young man i thank your father for doing as much as he has on my life.

'Showing many they can try things their own way and still be successful and provide for the ones they love in this life. #KMD #RestinParadise'

The rapper tragically lost his younger brother and KMD group member DJ Subroc in 1993.

The British-born artist was just 19-years-old when he was struck by a car and killed while attempting to cross the Nassau Expressway in New York.
