The Spree (German pronunciation: [ˈʃpʁeː]; Sorbian: Sprjewja, Czech: Spréva) is a river that flows through the Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin states of Germany, and in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic. Approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) in length, it is a left bank tributary of the River Havel, which itself flows into the Elbe and then the North Sea. It is the river on which the original centre of Berlin was built.
The reach of the river between the Dämeritzsee and Müggelsee to the east of Berlin is known as the Müggelspree.
The source of the Spree is located in Neugersdorf, Germany, in the Lusatian Highlands (Lausitzer Bergland) near the Czech border. It runs on the border for a short distance at two points (near Ebersbach and Oppach) before leaving the hills and passing through the old city of Bautzen/Budyšin, the center of the Sorbs in Upper Lusatia. Just to the north of Bautzen the river flows through the Bautzen Reservoir. Further north the river passes through the city of Spremberg and the Spremberg Reservoir before reaching the city of Cottbus. To the north of Cottbus the river enters the Spreewald, a large wetlands area in Lower Lusatia.
Berlin (/bərˈlɪn/, German: [bɛɐ̯ˈliːn]) is the capital of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.5 million people, it is the second most populous city proper and the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union. Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of Rivers Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has about six million residents from over 180 nations. Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one-third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers and lakes.
First documented in the 13th century and situated at the crossing of two important historic trade routes, Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933) and the Third Reich (1933–1945).Berlin in the 1920s was the third largest municipality in the world. After World War II, the city was divided; East Berlin became the capital of East Germany while West Berlin became a de facto West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall (1961–1989) and East Germany territory. Following German reunification in 1990, Berlin was once again designated as the capital of united Germany.
East Side or Eastside may refer to:
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.
South Asia or Southern Asia is a term used to represent the southern region of the Asian continent, which comprises the sub-Himalayan SAARC countries and, for some authorities, adjoining countries to the west and east. Topographically, it is dominated by the Indian Plate, which rises above sea level as Nepal and northern parts of India situated south of the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush. South Asia is bounded on the south by the Indian Ocean and on land (clockwise, from west) by West Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. The terms "Indian subcontinent" and "South Asia" are sometimes used interchangeably.
The current territories of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka form the countries of South Asia. In addition, with deviating definitions based on often substantially different reasons, the British Indian Ocean Territory, Mauritius, and the Tibet Autonomous Region are included as well. South Asia is home to well over one fifth of the world's population, making it both the most populous and the most densely populated geographical region in the world. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation(SAARC) is an economic cooperation organisation in the region which was established in 1985 and includes all eight nations comprising South Asia.

One of the most relaxing and fun ways to tour Berlin is by way if a tour boat on the Spree River. You will see the striking buildings of Museum Island, go under several bridges as you pass several neighborhoods and also glimpse the ultra modern office buildings adjacent to the Reichstag. The staff was very friendly and helpful; in the event of rain, clear plexiglass covering is immediately put into place & it won't hinder the views or the experience. I imagine the evening view would be quite enjoyable with lights coming on, etc. As is our custom, Ed did all of the camcorder video filming (without narrations this time, letting the natural sounds prevail). I did the still photography, chose the music heard (credits further below), edited everything and uploaded to You Tube. The music...

RE-PUBLISHED (original date: July 13, 2010) -- http://www.movingpostcard.com -- Boat tour on the Spree river - the fastest, most relaxed and coolest (during this heatwave especially) way to see the historic downtown buildings and the ultra modern government district. It took me years to see most of the major New York City attractions - admittedly I still haven't made it to the Tenement or the Transportation Museums. But taking the Staten Island Ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island past the Statue of Liberty was one of the first attractions I experienced - and one that I must have done about as often as walking or biking across the Brooklyn Bridge. Just in case I won't spend the next 11 years in Berlin, I'm going to try to see more of this city faster. With my love for the water, it se...

To say we hit the ground running after arriving in Germany would be an understatement. Multiple flights, renting a car, visiting several museums and reacquainting ourselves with some of our favorite German foods were all squeezed in to day one. The highlights of the day spent in Spreewald included Freilandmuseum Lehde (Open air museum), Gurkenmuseum (Pickle and Cucumber Museum) and an enormous plate of Schnitzel and grilled fish. Whew! Welcome to Berlin, the capital city of Germany. The first documentation of Berlin appears in the 13th century, and it has a long history of importance—it’s been the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Prussia, among others. The lengthy history encompassing the city often manifests in its eclectic collection of architecture, which you should certainly include on your Berlin tour. From the towering classical lines of Charlottenburg Palace, built for the Hohenzollern family in the 17th century, to the sleek mirrored sides of the Bahn Tower, you’re bound to find plenty to look at in the city’s downtown area. Fancy a real German lager? Stop by Prater Garten for a brew—built in 1837, it’s one of the handful of buildings that has survived both World Wars. You can sit ou...
Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go t...
