The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) refer to:
Security Forces is an umbrella term frequently used to describe statutory organisations with military, paramilitary, or internal security mandates. In the legal context of several nations, the term has variously denoted police and military units working in concert, or the predominant role of non-conventional agencies (such as gendarmerie) in the external and internal provision of public security.
Examples of formally designated security forces include:
Afghan (Pashto also Persian: افغان; see etymology) refers to something from Afghanistan, particularly a citizen of that country. Prior to this definition, it was used by Persian speakers and those influenced by the Persian language to denote the Pashtun people. In modern times, "Afghan" is rarely used as an ethnic term for the Pashtuns but is rather used as the national demonym for all citizens of Afghanistan — Pashtuns, Tajiks, and also a large number of Hazaras, Uzbeks, Aimaqs, Turkmens, Balochs, Nuristanis, Pashayis, Pamiris, Arabs, and others. According to the Encyclopædia Iranica, the word Afghan (afḡān) in current political usage means any citizen of Afghanistan, regardless of their tribal or religious affiliation. According to the 1964 Constitution of Afghanistan, all Afghans are equal in rights and obligations before the law. The fourth article of the current Constitution of Afghanistan states that citizens of Afghanistan consist of Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen, Aymaq, Arab, Baluch, Pashayi, Nuristani, Qezelbash, Gujjars, Brahui, and members of other tribes.
The Afghan National Army (ANA) is the main branch of the Afghan Armed Forces, responsible for ground warfare. It is under the Ministry of Defense in Kabul and is being heavily assisted by the United States and NATO. The ANA is divided into six regional Corps, with the 201st in Kabul followed by the 203rd in Gardez, 205th in Kandahar, 207th in Herat, 209th in Mazar-i-Sharif and the 215th in Lashkar Gah. The current Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army is Lieutenant General Sher Mohammad Karimi.
Afghanistan's army traces its roots to the early 18th-century when the Hotaki dynasty was established in Kandahar followed by Ahmad Shah Durrani's rise to power. It was reorganized in 1880 during Emir Abdur Rahman Khan's reign. Afghanistan remained neutral during the First and Second World Wars. From the 1960s to the early 1990s, the Afghan army was equipped by the Soviet Union. After the collapse of Mohammad Najibullah's regime in 1992, the army fragmented into militias under various regional warlords. This was followed by the Taliban government in the mid-1990s. After the end of the Taliban rule in late 2001, a new army was created, trained initially by the British but then mostly by the United States, later with the assistance of ISAF participants.

Afghanistan i/æfˈɡænᵻstæn/ (Pashto/Dari: افغانستان, Afġānistān), officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is a landlocked country located within South Asia and Central Asia. It has a population of approximately 32 million, making it the 42nd most populous country in the world. It is bordered by Pakistan in the south and east; Iran in the west; Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in the north; and China in the far northeast. Its territory covers 652,000 km2 (252,000 sq mi), making it the 41st largest country in the world.
Human habitation in Afghanistan dates back to the Middle Paleolithic Era, and the country's strategic location along the Silk Road connected it to the cultures of the Middle East and other parts of Asia. Through the ages the land has been home to various peoples and witnessed numerous military campaigns; notably by Alexander the Great, Muslim Arabs, Mongols, British, Soviet Russians, and in the modern-era by Western powers. The land also served as the source from which the Kushans, Hephthalites, Samanids, Saffarids, Ghaznavids, Ghorids, Khiljis, Mughals, Hotaks, Durranis, and others have risen to form major empires.

Afghan security forces shoot into the air to disperse protesters calling for the resignation of President Ashraf Ghani following Wednesday’s deadly bomb attack. The demonstrators chanted slogans and held anti-government banners. They also called for the execution of the Taliban-affiliated militants, whom Afghan intelligence officials blame for the attack. On Wednesday, a huge bomb ripped through a heavily-guarded diplomatic quarter of Kabul at the height of the morning rush hour, killing at least 90 people and injuring nearly 5-hundred others. The blast, which came a few days into the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was one of the deadliest to hit the Afghan capital in recent years. Afghan forces have taken over the security lead in Afghanistan, following an official handover from the US-led NATO coalition on Tuesday. (June 18)
Developing Afghanistan’s security forces has been a key policy priority for the U.S. since 2002. After nearly 16 years of effort, the U.S. has directly spent more than $70 billion to train, equip, and support the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, the strength and effectiveness of which is pivotal to the success of U.S. strategy in Afghanistan. However, these forces remain unable to independently defend against internal and external threats and it appears they will depend on continued assistance from the U.S. and other coalition countries for many years. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to our channel: http://cs.is/2dCfTve CSIS is the world's #1 defense and national security think tank. The war in Afghanistan is the period in which the United States invaded the country after the September 11 attacks, supported initially by close allies, and eventually by the wider North Atlantic Treaty Organization, beginning in 2003. The conflict is also known as the U.S. war in Afghanistan. It followed the Afghan Civil War's 1996–2001 phase. Its public aims were to dismantle al-Qaeda, and to deny it a safe base of operations in Afghanistan by removing the Taliban from power. Key allies supported the U.S. from the start, including the United Kingdom. In August 2003, NATO became involved as an alliance, taking the helm of the International Security Assistance Force. On 28 December 2014, NATO formally ended combat operations in Afghanistan and transferred full security responsibility to th...

The United States spent more than a decade and tens of billions of dollars to arm and train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) combat the Taliban. A core part of NATO's strategy to gradually transfer power and withdraw from the country, the ANSF took control of the country's security late last year, and have since led the fight against the armed group. But in August 2014, 15 civilians were killed and 13 others wounded when a joint US-Afghan special forces operation targeting the insurgents went wrong.
