Amber Tamblyn took to Twitter Sunday to respond to Rose McGowan's criticism of a plan by some actresses to wear black to the Golden Globes next month in protest at sexual harassment in the industry.

McGowan, who has led the charge against Harvey Weinstein, claiming the producer raped her in 1997, described the move as a meaningless 'dog and pony show' and in a parting shot, suggested the actresses all wear Marchesa, the fashion brand of Weinstein's wife Georgina Chapman.

But Tamblyn called the former Charmed star out for her Twitter comments, tweeting: 'I do not support any woman (or man) shaming or taunting the movements of other women who are trying to create change. Telling us to all wear Marchesa? This is beneath you, Rose.'

Stressing that she considered McGowan a friend, Tamblyn addressed her fellow actress, tweeting: 'You don't have to support and stand with us, but we stand and support you.'

'You may take below the belt shots at us, but we will not take them at you in return.'

Tamblyn felt the need to respond after McGowan made her feelings about the Golden Globes protest known on Saturday.

Weinstein's accuser wrote: 'Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem.'

She added: 'You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy.'

Actress Asia Argento, a close friend of McGowan and another self-identified victim of Weinstein, waded into the fray, too.

She chided Tamblyn for stating her opinion of McGowan publicly saying she should have made her views known privately.

'Asia, I did,' Tamblyn responded. 'I spoke to her for over an hour.' 

Holly Marie Combs, who starred on Charmed throughout its run from 1998 to 2006, called Tamblyn out for trying to dampen co-star McGowan's fire.

'You just did to @rosemcgowan what you claim you don't support her doing to others,' Combs wrote to Tamblyn on Twitter. 

Tamblyn replied: 'Her statement was public and hurtful to some women so a pubic response was earned.'

'I love Rose fiercely,' she went on: 'To be critical of an action is not to condemn the person behind it.' 

Alyssa Milano, who was also on Charmed with McGowan and Combs, chimed in as well.

'I stand by every woman in the pursuit of permanent change and gender equality,' Milano tweeted.

Tamblyn was among a slew of celebrities who supported CNN's annual Heroes award ceremony in New York Sunday night.

The gala recognized the work of 10 individuals who are inspiring change and seeking to help others less fortunate than themselves.

Tamblyn wore a full-length emerald green gown with a low-cut neckline to the bash. 

The number was cinched at the waist with a black belt and she added black strappy heels.

She joined fellow celebrities such as Sterling K. Brown, Diane Lane, Common, Christian Bale and Alfre Woodard for the event hosted by Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa.
