GROOVIE GHOULIES (1997) Running With Bigfoot (Single-**FLAC**)

The Groovie Ghoulies were an American pop punk band from Sacramento, California, United States, whose music took inspiration from horror movies. They released numerous albums, EPs, and singles, and toured internationally. The band's name was taken from the 1970s animated television series Groovie Goolies, a spinoff of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (itself a spinoff of The Archie Show).
Though the group's lineup fluctuated significantly throughout their career, bassist/vocalist Kepi remained a constant fixture. Guitarist Roach (lead singer Kepi's wife) was also a longtime member. The Groovie Ghoulies' music is best classified as pop-punk and is heavily influenced by early punk groups such as the Ramones and The Dickies, 1960s garage rock and bubblegum artists such as The Troggs and The Monkees, and 1950s rock and roll artists such as Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis. Throughout their career the Groovie Ghoulies recorded cover versions of songs by several of these artists as well as other influences including Daniel Johnston and Neil Diamond.

MEAT PUPPETS (1984) Meat Puppets II

Meat Puppets II is the second album by the Tempe, Arizona band the Meat Puppets, released in 1984. It is a departure from their self-titled debut album, which consisted largely of noisy hardcore with unintelligible vocals. It covers many genres from country-style rock ("Magic Toy Missing", "Climbing", Lost") to slow acoustic songs ("Plateau", "Oh Me") to psychedelic guitar effects ("Aurora Borealis") to hard rock ("Lake of Fire").
The cover art is by Curt Kirkwood and Neal Holliday.
Rykodisc reissued the album in 1999 with extra tracks and b-sides, including a cover of the Rolling Stones' Aftermath-era track "What To Do."
The Meat Puppets' SST labelmates The Minutemen covered "Lost" on the EP Tour-Spiel and their last studio album, 3-Way Tie (For Last). Three of the album's songs were covered by Nirvana (as the Kirkwood brothers joined them onstage) during their "Unplugged" show for MTV ("Plateau", "Oh, Me", and "Lake of Fire").

JAWBOX (--91--) Grippe (.fLaC)

Jawbox played its first show opening for Fugazi in 1989. Not long after that, the band began to tour and record, releasing its first single, “Tools & Chrome”, in 1990 as a split between Desoto and Dischord. Jawbox released two full-length records on Dischord, “Grippe” and “Novelty,” and toured heavily throughout the ’90s.
During that decade, the mainstream record industry developed an interest in the underground music community and gravitated toward bands like Jawbox, who possessed a strong work ethic and a proven audience. In 1993, Jawbox left Dischord to sign with Atlantic Records, where it would release two more albums – “For Your Own Special Sweetheart” and “Jawbox” – before disbanding in 1997.
In 2009 Desoto and Dischord began working together to re-issue the long out of print album "For Your Own Special Sweetheart". The album was remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service and is being re-issued with all new artwork on both CD and LP. - See more at: http://www.dischord.com/band/jawbox#sthash.lVDDISCf.dpuf

JERRY'S KIDS -- Kill Kill Kill / Is This My World (.fLaC)

Jerry's Kids is one of the earliest Boston hardcore bands, formed in 1981, from Braintree, Mass.. Their first recorded output was on the Modern Method This Is Boston, Not L.A. compilation LP in 1982. They contributed six tracks along with other early Boston Hardcore band Gang Green.
Frontman Bryan Jones and rhythm guitar player Dave Aronson left the band early on. Bryan Jones had broken his leg at one of their gigs and his parents denied him permission to play in the band any further. Bassist Rick Jones (Bryan's brother) switched to vocals and Chris Doherty of Gang Green took over on rhythm guitar. It was this line-up that recorded the classic 12 song LP Is This My World? on X-Claim in 1983, featuring songs such as "Cracks In The Wall", "Build Me A Bomb" and "Vietnam Syndrome". They broke up in 1985, but reformed in 1987 with a more speed metal sound and released an LP on Taang! Records entitled Kill Kill Kill. Reflex/Wolfpack Records released a limited re-issue of the Is This My World? LP in 2002. The band reunited again in 2004 and has been playing several shows per year around Boston since then. Their current recording plans, if any, are unknown.

AGRESSION (--1995--) The Best Of Agression (.fLaC)

Agression was part of the first wave of skatepunk bands to emerge from southern California in the early '80s. These groups were on the front lines of a new union between the skateboard and punk rock cultures, which were put on a path to convergence by the establishment hassling each group. The resulting music was a confluence of punk's anger and simplicity, the furious speed of hardcore, and defiantly smart-assed machismo. Emerging out of Oxnard, CA (which was such a hotbed of punk and skate bands that their sound became known as "Nardcore"), Agression consisted of the two founding members, vocalist Mark Hickey, and guitarist Henry Knowles, along with bassist Bob Clark, and drummer Mark Aber.

In 1996, they record their first EP, "Mom's Tea Party", under a label created by the Holly Tree themselves: Silly Sally Records. The influence of bands such as Rancid, Green Day and some old 70's UK punk makes them influent on Brazil's underground scene, and in 1998 they release their debut album: "Running Out Of Sense", by Silly Sally. In 2000 they play on CBGB and release "Don't Burst Me". In 2001, they took a step forward opening for the Buzzcocks, UK Subs and The Lurkers, and participating into a compilation called Pub Rock Songs, along with three other punk bands. RHYTHM PIGS (--1993--) El Paso (.fLaC)

The Rhythm Pigs were a punk band, originally from El Paso, Texas, later relocated to San Francisco. Their first two albums were among the first to be released by the influential independent Mordam Records label. Their first 7" EP is a classic example of early hardcore, welding driving rock and roll with broad melodies and varied tempos and hooks. Their first two studio albums showed more "big tent" punk, with varied musical styles (such as the foray into rap in "Break or We'll Break Your Face" on their self-titled LP) happily shoehorned into melodic punk songs.
Touring extensively throughout Europe and North America throughout the mid-1980s, the Rhythm Pigs were one of the most sophisticated and musically diverse hardcore bands, and remained so throughout the 1980s as hardcore became more and more musically conservative. That the wistful and melodic power-ballads of El Paso would not be considered punk by most adherents has as much to do with the shifting definition of punk as it does with the mellowing of the band's sound. Baby Falcon Getaway saw a return to a more raw, fast-paced hard rock sound (the three out-and-out hardcore songs on El Paso are collected into a single track titled "The Fast Three") combined with the more humorous tone seen on the first album. Baby Falcon Getaway included a hardcore cover of the Gordon Lightfoot classic "Sundown" and a furiously paced rendition of Charles Mingus's "Boogie Stop Shuffle," which recalled the Peanuts theme (Vince Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy) from the first album.

sPlIt (--1999--) DROPKICK MURPHYS & AGNOSTIC FRONT - Unity

Formed by guitarist Vinnie Stigma (formerly of the Eliminators) in December 1980, with Diego on bass and Rob Krekus on drums. Agnostic Front went through several singers, two of them being John Watson and Jimmy "The Mad Russian", before settling with Roger Miret (former bass player of The Psychos). They soon added Ray Barbieri, aka Raybeez (Warzone), on drums and Adam Mucci on bass. Their debut EP United Blood, released in 1983 on an indie label, has since become a collector's item. At this time, the band consisted entirely of skinheads. Although this would change over time, Agnostic Front would continue to feature skinheads as part of their line-up. THE FREEZE -- The Land Of The Lost (.fLaC)

The Freeze are a seminal punk rock band from Cape Cod, Massachusetts that came together in 1978 when they were teenagers.
The band is known for their dark lyrics, original punk rock melodies, and their longevity. A lot of their early lyrics deal with alienation, drug-use/abuse and paranoia (especially of the government and especially of the Reagan-Bush years). A constant theme or thread regarding apathetic observers or people willing to give up their freedoms for fear of losing their "security" is also apparent in their work.

Snuff --2000-- Numb Nuts

At one point, Snuff where one of the most creative punk bands ever to come out of London. With a combination of thrash metal, pop-punk and mod influences to top their wacky brand of humor, albums such as Snuff Said... and Demmamussabebonk became underground classics. Unfortunately, it also seems as if Snuff are trying too hard to follow-up their previous releases. Numb Nuts still features the Snuff tradition of galloping punk, perfect vocal harmonies and trombone solos. Songs such as "Yuki," "Marbles," and "Reach" are some of the catchier stand-outs amongst their sixth full-length. But at the same time, there isn't that much energy or punch incomparable to their aforementioned classics. A lot of Numb Nuts sounds like one long song as each track has that same monotonous feature of verse-chorus-verse-breakdown-verse. Although this isn't as flat as 1998's Tweet Tweet My Lovely, one would be better off to remain with their older albums. ~ Mike DaRonco

Between The Buried And Me -- 2005 -- Alaska

Between the Buried and Me's forward-thinking musical agenda was already well established by the release of third album, Alaska (their second for Victory Records), but it's questionable whether their complex creative vision had yet coalesced in such stunningly satisfying fashion. Come to think of it, there is no argument. Perhaps it was the frustratingly continuous membership turnover that marred those past near-misses, because although there was no telling as of yet that the quintet responsible for Alaska would in fact go on to embody BTBAM's definitive lineup, in retrospect, it's quite obvious why they meshed here, and then stuck together. On Alaska, BTBAM's hardcore foundation definitively assumed the role of springboard for their wilder, cross-genre experimentation, often involving gentle passages composed of elegiac acoustic guitar work, flowing basslines, jazzy percussion, and surprisingly timid vocals, all wrapped in a gauze of soothing synthesizers. Opening statement "All Bodies" and, later, "Backwards Marathon" beautifully exemplify these contrasts, riding the very extremes of possible hard/soft delivery and instrumentation as they follow their winding treasure maps to the X that marks the spot. "Medicine Wheel" is all evanescent bliss, and the deceptively named "Laser Speed" goes all bossa nova, while "The Primer" begins like vintage melodic power metal before unveiling its savage side, and another eye-opening number, "Selkies: The Endless Obsession," resembles a new millennium reconstruction of Rush: from the "Tom Sawyer"-winking synth intro to the circular riff contortions that precede the ensuing thrash-out to the gentle interruption that rebuilds gradually like Opeth meeting Dream Theater. And despite all these daring investigations, Between the Buried and Me could still convulse, shudder, and retch along with the best mathcore practitioners out there -- the serpentine cataclysm of a title track, "Roboturner," and others prove as much -- making Alaska about as well-balanced as anything this emotionally schizophrenic and musically eclectic group could possibly be. Between the Buried and Me had never flown higher and would probably never fly this high again. by Eduardo Rivadavia

The Pogues --1989-- Peace & Love

The album continued the band's gradual departure from traditional Irish music. It noticeably opens with a heavily jazz-influenced track. Also, several of the songs are inspired by the city in which the Pogues were founded, London ("White City", "Misty Morning, Albert Bridge", "London You're a Lady"), as opposed to Ireland, from which they had usually drawn inspiration. Nevertheless, several notable Irish personages are mentioned, including Ned of the Hill, Christy Brown, whose book Down All The Days appears as a song title, and Napper Tandy, mentioned in the first line of "Boat Train", and was adapted from a line in the Irish rebel song "The Wearing of the Green". Likewise the MacGowan song "Cotton Fields" draws on the Lead Belly song of the same name.

Between The Buried And Me -- 2003 -- The Silent Circus

Between the Buried and Me's debut album for Victory Records, The Silent Circus, showcases a great amount of diversity for a metal band, very similar to heavier bands like Opeth and Dillinger Escape Plan. One minute the band may be playing thrash metal and the next they're flowing into death metal growls and thick guitar riffs. They certainly show a mastery of the hardcore and metal styles that many bands their age can take a lot longer to understand. The metal take on things can seemingly change in a flash as lead singer Tommy Rogers fleshes out his vocals and utilizes the keyboards to create something that sounds more like it should be on a Smashing Pumpkins album. This might make some fans of heavy music grimace in objection, but there's definitely a lot to be encouraged by with The Silent Circus. (Allmusic)

The Partisans --200-- Idiot Nation

The Partisans formed in the U.K. in late 1979. Led by vocalist Rob Harrington, the band also included drummer Mark Harris, bassist Louise Wright, and guitarist Andy Lealand. The unit made an immediate splash in the thriving punk and Oi! scene of the day with the 1981 single "Police Story," and issued the 7" "17 Years of Hell" soon after. No Future signed them, and the band churned out a self-titled 1983 LP for the label to capitalize on its success, but it was a hurried affair and didn't do very well. Wright departed in 1983 and was replaced by Dave Parsons, who joined the group on the Blind Ambition single that same year. He soon split, however, and The Partisans continued on as a trio. Time Was Right appeared in 1984; its punk-ish studio material was augmented by recordings from a Brixton gig the previous year. Naturally, the album tanked, and by 1985, The Partisans were drifting in limbo. This lasted until 1999, when fan interest in the band sparked a reunion of original members Lealand and Harrington. A best-of appeared from Captain Oi! in 2000, and the militant three-song EP Hysteria followed a year later (the EP was issued in the U.S. by TKO with the title So Neat). A round of live dates continued to spark interest in the group.

The Pogues --1985-- Rum, Sodomy & The Lash

The Pogues are a Celtic punk band from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan. The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in late 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St. Patrick's Day and across the UK and Ireland every December. The group has yet to record any new music and, according to Spider Stacy on Pogues.com, has no inclination to do so.
Their politically tinged music was informed by MacGowan and Stacy's punk backgrounds, yet used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, cittern, mandolin and accordion.
The Pogues were founded in Kings Cross, a district of Central London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—pogue mahone being the anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse"

Dag Nasty --2002-- Minority Of One

The band started in the summer of 1985, made up of ex-members of Minor Threat and Bloody Mannequin Orchestra. Through the years, they cycled through 3 different singers, 2 bass players, and 3 drummers in their four year active existence (1985-1988). The band itself had a huge impact on the world of underground music, due to the fact that Dag Nasty practically introduced melodic hardcore in the mid-'80s. But although the group was more accessible and melodic than Minor Threat or similar bands, they never lost their bracing, blistering edge. The concept of the band came about from former-Minor Threat and Meatmen guitarist Brian Baker. After vocalist Shawn Brown departed the group, ex-DYS frontman Dave Smalley completed Brian Baker's vision of what the band should be. keep reading here http://www.daghouse.com/band.html

JAWBREAKER - 4 [ALBUNS]

Jawbreaker was an American punk rock band active from 1986 to 1996 and considered one of the most influential acts of the early-1990s emo movement. Lead vocalist and guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister, and drummer Adam Pfahler formed the band while students at New York University, later relocating to Los Angeles where they released their debut album Unfun (1990) through independent record label Shredder Records. Relocating again to San Francisco the following year, they released 1992's Bivouac through the Tupelo Recording Company and The Communion Label. Schwarzenbach's charisma and personal, frustrated lyrics helped to establish him as a cult idol, even as he underwent surgery to remove painful and voice-threatening polyps from his throat. Jawbreaker toured with Nirvana in 1993 and released 24 Hour Revenge Therapy in 1994, attracting the attention of major labels. They signed a one million-dollar contract with DGC Records and released 1995's Dear You, but the album's polished production and smooth vocals resulted in a significant backlash from the band's core audience. Internal tensions led to Jawbreaker's dissolution in 1996.
