Hollywood (/ˈhɒliwʊd/ HOL-ee-wuud) is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. The neighborhood is notable for its place as the home of the U.S. film industry, including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to be a metonym for the motion picture industry of the United States. Hollywood is also a highly ethnically diverse, densely populated, economically diverse neighborhood and retail business district.
Hollywood was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It officially merged with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry began to emerge, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world.
In 1853, one adobe hut stood in Nopalera (Nopal field), named for the Mexican Nopal cactus indigenous to the area. By 1870, an agricultural community flourished. The area was known as the Cahuenga Valley, after the pass in the Santa Monica Mountains immediately to the north.
In filmmaking, visual effects (abbreviated VFX) are the processes by which imagery is created and/or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot. Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film. Visual effects using computer generated imagery have recently become accessible to the independent filmmaker with the introduction of affordable and easy-to-use animation and compositing software.
Visual effects are often integral to a movie's story and appeal. Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it usually must be carefully planned and choreographed in pre-production and production. Visual effects primarily executed in Post-Production with the use of multiple tools and technologies such as graphic design, modeling, animation and similar software, while special effects such as explosions and car chases are made on set. A visual effects supervisor is usually involved with the production from an early stage to work closely with production and the film's director design, guide and lead the teams required to achieve the desired effects.

Here are some incredible visual effects from the 2012 movie "Flight", starring Denzel Washington. Atomic Fiction did an amazing job of making the variant of the MD-80 aircraft come to life, creating realistic cloud and rain effects and the computer-generated mechanical malfunctions of the aircraft. It used to be that what you saw on a movie set would pretty much be what you saw in the final movie. If you wanted to have a mountain in the background, you'd have to go to one. However with modern technology, CGI has made it possible to have that mountain in the background without even leaving your home. Just whip up a green screen and you're good to go! This advancement in technology has meant for some big differences between what is filmed and what we see in the final movie. Here are some Hollywood movies without the VFX applied! World War Z, Brad Pitt didn't take long to be crowned the highest-grossing zombie film of all time. But what makes this movie so captivating is the realistic visual effects created by computer graphics artists. The talented group of people worked around the clock to pull off one of the most believable apocalyptic films we've ever seen. And now that the sequel has been delayed, we thought we'd take a look at what the original film looks like without all the snazzy the visual effects. Prepared to be amazed. The Agents While watching the film, you probably wondered how they were able to get so many extras for many of these shots. But the truth is, most of the zombies are actually agents - digital bots that were created by visual effects artists. Up to 8,500 of these agents were used per...

Born under unusual circumstances, Benjamin Button (played by Brad Pitt) is a character who actually ages in reverse, starting of as an old man who ages...well, who 'youngers', is that a word? Well anyway, he basically gets younger as the movie progresses. Now, usually to achieve a drastically younger or older version of the lead character, movie makes simply cast a similar looking older or younger actor to play those parts. But what's so special about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is that it was Brad Pitt the whole way through! Well, kind of. Here's how they did it. In order to make the character Benjamin Button, special effects experts needed to put an aged-looking Brad Pitt's face on a child sized body. But contrary to common belief (and some published reports) that this was acc...
Just like most things in life, when computer generated imagery is done badly, everyone notices it. But sadly, when they do botch up the CGI in a movie, it immediately transports you away from that fantasy world and back into your living room, leaving you thinking: "that was the worst CGI scorpion I have ever seen" and thus ruining the movie. But when CGI is done well enough to not look like a plastic man fighting a bunch of other plastic men, it can really pull you in to the story and leave you forgetting that you've just been watching a whole load of CGI. So with that said here are some Hollywood VFX You Didn't Notice Were CGI Logan Unlike past X-Men movies, Logan doesn't really have many huge scale VFX scenes and perhaps that's what makes it all the more believable. Aside from a few...
