Crimson Tide is a 1995 American submarine film directed by Tony Scott, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. It takes place during a period of political turmoil in the Russian Federation, in which ultranationalists threaten to launch nuclear missiles at the United States and Japan. It focuses on a clash of wills between the new executive officer (Denzel Washington) of a U.S. nuclear missile submarine and its seasoned commanding officer (Gene Hackman), arising from conflicting interpretations of an order to launch their missiles.
The film was scored by Hans Zimmer, who won a Grammy Award for the main theme, which makes heavy use of synthesizers in place of traditional orchestral instruments.
In post-Soviet Russia, civil war erupts as a result of armed conflict in Chechnya. Military units, loyal to (fictional) Russian ultra-nationalist Vladimir Radchenko, have taken control of a nuclear missile installation and are threatening nuclear war if either the American or Russian governments attempt to confront him.

Hunter: Yes the purpose of war is to serve a political end but the true nature of war is to serve itself. Capt. Ramsey: I'm very impressed. In other words, the sailor most likely to win the war is the one most willing to part company with the politicians and ignore everything except the destruction of the enemy. You'd agree with that. Submarine movies are almost always good--well, except for Down Periscope. And movies with Denzel Washington are also almost always good. So a submarine movie with Denzel Washington ought to be pretty awesome, right? And it is! Still has sins. Next week: Something comic-related, and something Neeson. Remember, no movie is without sin. Crimson Tide (1995), directed by Tony Scott, music by Hans Zimmer
This was the culmination of a perfect regular season for Alabama. Yet they faced a seemingly insurmountable task in taking on the Miami Hurricanes at the peek of their dynasty run. But looks can be deceiving. Lead by head coach Gene Stallings, protege of the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant, legacy and destiny was on the side of the Crimson Tide. Alabama throttled the Miami Hurricanes from start to finish, taking every punch they threw and throwing back twice as hard. In the end the Alabama Crimson Tide shocked the world and toppled the Hurricanes and claimed yet another National Championship. NOTICE: All rights are reserved by the original copyright holder(s). Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.
Oh Saviour whose almighty word,
The winds and waves submissive heard,
Who walkest on the foaming deep,
and calm amid it's rage did sleep
Oh hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.
