From VEI index 1 to 8, we compare the power of eruptions of volcanoes from Stromboli (VEI 1) to Eyjafjallajökull (VEI 4) to Krakatoa (VEI 6) and even to super volcanoes such as Yellowstone (VEI 8) and even "hyper-volcanoes"!
Note:
Mt Tambora (VEI 7) has wrong plume height and tephra released, the correct one should be: Plume Height: 40km/25mi, Tephra released: 160km3.

Biography
Eruption was formed in 1974 in London by vocalist Precious Wilson, lead guitarist Greg Perrineau, bassist Morgan Perrineau, keyboardist Gerry Williams, and drummer Eric Kingsley.
Wilson was born in Jamaica and she moved with her family to Great Britain at the age of seven. The other members of the band came from different parts of the Caribbean and Africa.
In 1975, their winning of an RCA Soul Search Contest in England brought them a record deal and their first single Let Me Take Your Back in Time (1976) figured prominently in the soul charts.
In 1977, Boney M.s producer Frank Farian was introduced to Eruption by his talent scout Hans-Jorg Mayer, who then took them under his wing and signed the group to Germany-based Hansa Records. Their 1978 cover of I Cant Stand the Rain was a big hit internationally; reaching number five in Britain and number 18 in the U.S. (as N6 in the club charts). The success was sealed with One Way Ticket, which went to number nine in the U.K. the following year.
Precious Wilson left the group in 1979 to pursue a solo career and was replaced by singer Kim Davis. The group went on to recorded their third album Fight Fight Fight. Shortly after, tragedy hit when Kim Davis was killed in a car accident. The band decided to continue and singer Jane Jochen stepped in. A new recording, a cover of Del Shannon's Runaway was released in December 1980 and peaked at N21 in the German charts.
After a compilation album in the spring of 1981 and the single release of You (You Are My Soul) from Fight Fight Fight, the band signed to Ralph Siegels Jupiter Records.
Eruption featuring Jane Jochen. 1981 single In a 1000 Years
After the final single Where Do I Begin from the Album Our Way in 1985, the group disbanded and the rest of the group went their separate ways in the mid-80s.
In 1994 Farian released the CD 'Eruption Gold' which actually only featured seven Eruption titles (all were remixed), all other 13 tracks were all Precious Wilson solo tracks, from her solo Albums.
Precious Wilson is the official and legal owner of the trade mark Eruption. She is the only member of the original line-up, who is still active.
Though successful as a solo artist, Precious also tours under the name Eruption with her new group, as well as promoting her solo and projects.

Types of volcanic eruptions
Several types of volcanic eruptions—during which lava, tephra (ash, lapilli, volcanic bombs and blocks), and assorted gases are expelled from a volcanic vent or fissure—have been distinguished by volcanologists. These are often named after famous volcanoes where that type of behavior has been observed. Some volcanoes may exhibit only one characteristic type of eruption during a period of activity, while others may display an entire sequence of types all in one eruptive series.
There are three different types of eruptions. The most well-observed are magmatic eruptions, which involve the decompression of gas within magma that propels it forward. Phreatomagmatic eruptions are another type of volcanic eruption, driven by the compression of gas within magma, the direct opposite of the process powering magmatic activity. The third eruptive type is the phreatic eruption, which is driven by the superheating of steam via contact with magma; these eruptive types often exhibit no magmatic release, instead causing the granulation of existing rock.

Precious Wilson
Precious Wilson (born 18 October 1957 in Spanish Town, Jamaica) is a soul singer.
Background
Wilson started out as a backing singer for the all-male group Eruption. The group enjoyed a minor hit when they won a talent competition in 1975 with the song "Let Me Take You Back in Time". Unable to sustain their momentum, the lead singer left the group, and Precious stepped forward to front the band.
While on the road in Germany, Eruption was discovered in 1977 by German producer Frank Farian who hired them to support Boney M. on their tour. Signing them to Boney M.'s label, Hansa Records, Farian released the single "Party Party" but it was their disco cover version of Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand the Rain" from their first album which broke big, giving them a UK #5 hit and a US #18 hit. After a second album and another hit single with Neil Sedaka's "One Way Ticket" (UK #9), Wilson left the group to pursue a solo career.
Solo career
Wilson's debut single as a solo artist was a cover version of Sam & Dave's "Hold On I'm Coming", released in August 1979. Produced by Frank Farian and set to a funky disco-beat, the single disappointingly failed to chart in Germany and the UK, reaching only a modest #45 in the Dutch charts. The song was also included in Boney M.'s No. 1 album Oceans of Fantasy which also yielded a guest performance by Wilson on the opening track "Let It All Be Music".

Eruption of Stromboli on 23.June 2012. I made a quick short visit to Stromboli, since that volcano was in a period of increased activity. I took the ferry from Naples, climbed the volcano and spent the night at the crater. The next morning I took the Aliscafo back to Naples. Background: Stromboli is the NE-most of the Aeolian Islands in Italy. The volcano island has lent its name to the frequent mild explosive activity that has characterized its eruptions throughout much of historical time. Spectacular incandescent nighttime eruptions at this volcano have long attracted visitors to the "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean." (Source GVP)

Eruption was formed in 1974 in London by vocalist Precious Wilson, lead guitarist Greg Perrineau, bassist Morgan Perrineau, keyboardist Gerry Williams, and drummer Eric Kingsley.
Wilson was born in Jamaica and she moved with her family to Great Britain at the age of seven. The other members of the band came from different parts of the Caribbean and Africa.
In 1975, their winning of an RCA Soul Search Contest in England brought them a record deal and their first single Let Me Take Your Back in Time (1976) figured prominently in the soul charts.
In 1977, Boney M.s producer Frank Farian was introduced to Eruption by his talent scout Hans-Jorg Mayer, who then took them under his wing and signed the group to Germany-based Hansa Records. Their 1978 cover of I Cant Stand the Rain was a big hit internationally; reaching number five in Britain and number 18 in the U.S. (as N6 in the club charts). The success was sealed with One Way Ticket, which went to number nine in the U.K. the following year.
Precious Wilson left the group in 1979 to pursue a solo career and was replaced by singer Kim Davis. The group went on to recorded their third album Fight Fight Fight. Shortly after, tragedy hit when Kim Davis was killed in a car accident. The band decided to continue and singer Jane Jochen stepped in. A new recording, a cover of Del Shannon's Runaway was released in December 1980 and peaked at N21 in the German charts.
After a compilation album in the spring of 1981 and the single release of You (You Are My Soul) from Fight Fight Fight, the band signed to Ralph Siegels Jupiter Records.

After the final single Where Do I Begin from the Album Our Way in 1985, the group disbanded and the rest of the group went their separate ways in the mid-80s.

What are Blackheads ?
Blackheads are small bumps that appear on the skin due to blockage of the hair follicles. These bumps are called "black spots" because the surface has a dark or black appearance. Blackheads are a mild form of acne that usually form on the face .
What are Acne ?
Acne is a long-term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. Acne is characterized by areas of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and greasy skin, and may result in scarring. The resulting appearance can lead to anxiety, reduced self-esteem and, in extreme cases, depression or thoughts of suicide .

A pimple, zit or spot is a kind of comedo and one of the many results of excess oil getting trapped in the pores. What are Blackheads ?
Blackheads are small bumps that appear on the skin due to blockage of the hair follicles. These bumps are called "black spots" because the surface has a dark or black appearance. Blackheads are a mild form of acne that usually form on the face .
What are Acne ?
Acne is a long-term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. Acne is characterized by areas of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and greasy skin, and may result in scarring. The resulting appearance can lead to anxiety, reduced self-esteem and, in extreme cases, depression or thoughts of suicide .

By contrast, volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust in the interiors of plates, e.g., in the East African Rift, the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field and the Rio Grande Rift in North America. This type of volcanism falls under the umbrella of "Plate hypothesis" volcanism.[1] Volcanism away from plate boundaries has also been explained as mantle plumes. These so-called "hotspots", for example Hawaii, are postulated to arise from upwelling diapirs with magma from the core--mantle boundary, 3,000 km deep in the Earth.
Erupting volcanoes can pose many hazards, not only in the immediate vicinity of the eruption. Volcanic ash can be a threat to aircraft, in particular those with jet engines where ash particles can be melted by the high operating temperature; the melted particles then adhere to the turbine blades and alter their shape, disrupting the operation of the turbine. Large eruptions can affect temperature as ash and droplets of sulfuric acid obscure the sun and cool the Earth's lower atmosphere or troposphere; however, they also absorb heat radiated up from the Earth, thereby warming the stratosphere. Historically, so-called volcanic winters have caused catastrophic famines.

Will scientists ever be able to predict volcanic eruptions?
Volcanoes are among nature’s most awesome forces. Over millions of years, lava and debris ejected from volcanoes have created more than 80 percent of the surface of our planet. The world’s 1500 currently active volcanoes still kill an average of 800 people per year and threaten the lives of 500 million more. By their very nature, volcanoes are unpredictable, with molten rock, known as magma, forcing upwards under almost unimaginable power through complex webs of rock fractures from up to a hundred miles under the ground.
We visit the Italian city of Naples, where 500,000 people live in the shadow of the world’s most dangerous explosive volcanoes, Mount Vesuvius. The mountain that killed thousands in AD79 in Pompeii, is now among the most solely monitored volcanoes on Earth. Scientists study its gas emissions, its earth tremors, its temperature and how the ground on and around the volcano changes shape. And yet as scientist Carmen Solana admits, “We are not right now in the position of being able to predict eruptions.”
Naked Science travels around the world, looking at how each volcano prediction method helps scientists complete the jigsaw picture of when an eruption may happen. On Hawaii, we see how often deadly volcanic gases offer clues to what is happening underground. Here, too, they measure temperature changes to try and predict if an eruption is likely.
We hear of how the study of ground deformation helped scientists predict the eruption of Mount St Helens and save hundreds of lives. And, on Mount Etna in Italy, volcanologist Harry Pinkerton reveals that the temperature of 2000 degree lava flows help him predict what destruction an eruption may cause. In New Zealand, one of the world’s leading seismologists details how her research reveals changing patterns of rock fractures in the run up to the eruption of the massive Mount Ruapehu volcano. Her studies of seismic waves, the sounds generated by earthquakes, could help prediction in other countries.
For the newest prediction techniques, Naked Science looks at stunning computer images revealing the structure of magma chambers up to 100 miles under the ground. Nobody has ever seen this deep before. To create the picture English scientists tap into the massive penetrating power of electromagnetic waves, hitting the ground in lightning storms. Finally the program moves to Iceland where scientists combat the deadly threat of under ice volcanoes by creating computer models linking the information gathered by all of the prediction methods we have seen in the film. That offers hope for the future, although the volcanologists still warn that, however much their science improves, volcanoes will still produce unpredictable and often deadly eruptions.
