United States national team

Team USA or United States national team may refer to any of a number of sports team representing the United States in international competitions.

Additionally, these teams may compete in other international competitions such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup and World Championship for Women, the Ice Hockey World Championships, the FIFA World Cup, or the World Figure Skating Championships. USBC Masters

The USBC Masters is a championship ten pin bowling event conducted by the United States Bowling Congress. The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) began recognizing it as a title event in 1998, and it was designated one of the four majors in 2000.

History

Prior to 2005 the tournament was known as the ABC Masters, conducted by the American Bowling Congress (which merged with the WIBC and YABA, becoming the USBC in 2005). The Masters began as an invitational event showcasing national and local bowling stars and has grown to become one of bowling's most prestigious events.

While the event has evolved over the years, its trademark qualifying and double-elimination match play format has remained largely unchanged. All bowlers compete in 15 games of qualifying, with the top 63 qualifiers joining the previous year's champion in the double elimination match play bracket. All head-to-head matches consist of 3 games, highest total pinfall wins.

Hundreds of competitors turn out for the Masters each year with their sights set on a prize fund that has recently been as high as $350,000, including a $50,000 top prize. The field, which now includes women, also features representatives from all 50 states and a handful of foreign countries.

Sunset Station

Sunset Station is a hotel and casino. It is owned and operated by Station Casinos on 98 acres (40 ha) located in Henderson, Nevada. Sunset Station is an off-strip locals casino located on Sunset Road near Interstate 515, across from the Galleria at Sunset shopping center.

The resort includes a 21-story hotel tower with 448 rooms, 13,000 sq ft (1,200 m²) of meeting space, slot machines, table games, a 13-screen movie theater, a 542-seat bingo hall, a 72-lane bowling alley open 24 hours a day, a 5,000-seat outdoor amphitheater, and nine restaurants.

Strike Zone Bowling Center

Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center opened in April 2005. At the time of its opening, the 77,000-square-foot (7,200 m²), 72-lane bowling alley was the largest in Las Vegas and, at a cost of $26 million, was also the most expensive in the country. In 2007, the alley hosted the PBA Tour's Motel 6 Classic.

Gaudi Bar

The central feature of the 140-seat Gaudi Bar is a 6,000-square-foot (560 m²) stained glass ceiling composed of thousands of glass pieces and weighing twelve tons. The design of the Gaudi Bar is said to have been inspired by Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi.

Henderson, Nevada

Henderson, officially the City of Henderson, is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States. It is the second largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas, with an estimated population of 270,811 in 2013. The city is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, which spans the entire Las Vegas Valley. Henderson occupies the southeastern end of the valley, at an elevation of approximately 1,330 feet (410 m).

In 2011, Forbes magazine ranked Henderson as America's second safest city. It has also been named as "One of the Best Cities to Live in America" by Bloomberg Businessweek. In 2014, Henderson was again ranked as one of the Top 10 "Safest Cities in the United States" by the FBI Uniform Crime Report.

History

The township of Henderson first emerged in the 1940s during World War II with the building of the Basic Magnesium Plant. Henderson quickly became a main supplier of magnesium in the United States, which was called the "miracle metal" of World War II. The plant supplied the US War Department with magnesium for incendiary munition casings and airplane engines, frames, and other parts. A quarter of all US wartime magnesium came from the Henderson Plant to strengthen aluminium, using 25% of Hoover Dam's power to separate the metal from its ore by electrolysis. Mayor Jim Gibson's grandfather, Fred D. Gibson, was one of the original engineers sent to Great Britain to learn the secret of creating the "miracle metal" which would eventually help the United States and its allies win the war.
