This is the story of one nerds quest to find the forgotten stars of Star Wars! I'm Jamie Stangroom, and as excited as I was when I saw the first cast photo for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, I couldn't help but think that there was something missing. Lots of something. Someones. I felt nostalgic joy seeing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, but what about Logrey the Ewok? Greedo? What about the Gonk droid?! So I decided to go and find them. I was prepared to go to the ends of the earth and maybe even Wales in my journey to find the actors the franchise forgot. JJ Abrams may have overlooked them, but I won't!

Jamie Stangroom posted an interview with the character actor behind Jar Jar Binks. Unlike Andy Serkis (Gollum of LOTR), Ahmed's career was somewhat short circuited by the vitriol fans showed toward Jar Jar Binks. A shame, because Best has become an overlooked talent. A recent theory circulated that Lucas initially planned to make Jar Jar an under cover Sith Lord, but backed away after fan reaction to the character. Best alludes to a scene cut from the script of Episode 3 in which Palpatine shares his plans for the future with a fallen Jar Jar Binks that lends some credibility to the theory. I cut a short clip from the interview where Best gives voice to Darth Jar and played back with fan artwork. 2

Before landing the role of Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels, Ahmed Best contributed to the success of acid jazz group Jazzhole, co-writing and co-producing three albums for the band. In 1995 he joined the cast of the Obie Award winning Stomp, which helped him land the role of everyone’s favourite Gungan. Casting director Robin Gurland admired his flexible and athletic movements in the aforementioned production, and so cast Ahmed as Jar Jar Binks. Despite Best’s best efforts, excuse the horrible pun, fans quickly turned on his performance, and many to this day still claim Binks is the worst Star Wars character ever. Although Ahmed’s portrayal of Binks continued after the prequel trilogy, even making fun of the character in episodes of Robot Chicken, he has dipped his toes into many other acting waters. To this day, Best continues his love for both the silver and small screens…

Ahmed Best
Ahmed Best (born August 19, 1973) is an American actor, voice actor, and musician. He rose to infamy in the 2000s for providing motion capture and voice of the highly unpopular character of Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars franchise. He also created, wrote, directed and produced his own TV show, which he titled This Can't Be My Life.
Best likewise collaborated with director George Lucas in three films and five episodes of the cartoon show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He won the Annie Award for Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production for lampooning Jar Jar Binks in Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II.
Early life
Ahmed Best was born on August 19, 1973 in New York City. He lived the majority of his formative years in the Soundview section of the Bronx. He moved to Maplewood, New Jersey in 1984. He attended Columbia High School. He then studied percussion at the Manhattan School of Music.
Career
In 1994, Ahmed joined the acid jazz group The Jazzhole. He contributed to the success of the group for two years. He co-wrote and co-produced three albums for the group including The Jazzhole, And the Feeling Goes Around and The Beat is the Bomb. In 1995, he co-wrote and co-produced Escape by Bill Evans.

Jar Jar Binks
Jar Jar Binks is a fictional character from the Star Wars saga created by George Lucas. A major character in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, he also has a smaller role in Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and a one-line cameo in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The first lead computer generated character of the franchise, he was portrayed by Ahmed Best in most of his appearances.
Jar Jar's primary role in Episode I was to provide comic relief for the audience. Upon the movie's release, he was met with an overwhelmingly negative reception from both critics and audiences.
Conception
George Lucas was inspired to develop Jar Jar based on the Disney character of Goofy. Singer Michael Jackson was originally considered for the role, but he wanted to portray the character using prosthetics while Lucas wanted him to be all CGI. Ahmed Best, who would end up playing the character, would later hypothesize that Lucas might have felt uncomfortable with the thought of the singer's casting overshadowing the actual movie; Best was chosen based on his work in the production of Stomp as Lucas wanted someone athletic for the role. During his auditions he performed several Martial Arts moves and flips, which was a contrast to how Lucas pictured the character, which according to Best was more in line with comedic silent actors such as Buster Keaton. Best would later remark that after Lucas walked out of the audition he felt he had failed it.

Star Wars

Star Wars Weekends
Star Wars Weekends was a festival held annually at the Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park of the Walt Disney World Resort. Included with park admission, the event typically occurred on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for four consecutive weekends in May and June and featured appearances by cast and crew members from Disney's Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. Many original Disney characters also appeared dressed as Star Wars characters, such as Jedi Mickey, Minnie as Leia, Donald as a stormtrooper, Goofy as Darth Vader and R2-MK (Mickey Mouse stylized astromech droid). The festival began in 1997 and has been held in 2000, 2001, and annually from 2003 until 2015. In November 2015, Disney discontinued the event due to construction of a Star Wars themed-land and the larger daily presence Star Wars will have in the park onwards.

Ahmad, Ahmed or Ahmet are the principal transliterations of an Arabic given name, أحمد.
Etymology
Ahmad comes from the Arabic triconsonantal root of Ḥ-M-D, meaning "highly praised", which in turn implies "one who constantly thanks God." Several Arabic names are derived from this root word.
The name Ahmad has its origins in a prophecy attributed to Jesus, in the Quran in Surah 61: As-Saff (The Ranks). Some Muslim scholars see the names parallel in the word 'Paraclete' in the biblical text. This view is not universal considering translations, meanings and etymology.

So I decided to go and find them. I was prepared to go to the ends of the earth and maybe even Wales in my journey to find the actors the franchise forgot. Jamie Stangroom posted an interview with the character actor behind Jar Jar Binks. Unlike Andy Serkis (Gollum of LOTR), Ahmed's career was somewhat short circuited by the vitriol fans showed toward Jar Jar Binks. A shame, because Best has become an overlooked talent. A recent theory circulated that Lucas initially planned to make Jar Jar an under cover Sith Lord, but backed away after fan reaction to the character. Best alludes to a scene cut from the script of Episode 3 in which Palpatine shares his plans for the future with a fallen Jar Jar Binks that lends some credibility to the theory. Before landing the role of Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels, Ahmed Best contributed to the success of acid jazz group Jazzhole, co-writing and co-producing three albums for the band. In 1995 he joined the cast of the Obie Award winning Stomp, which helped him land the role of everyone’s favourite Gungan. Casting director Robin Gurland admired his flexible and athletic movements in the aforementioned production, and so cast Ahmed as Jar Jar Binks. Despite Best’s best efforts, excuse the horrible pun, fans quickly turned on his performance, and many to this day still claim Binks is the worst Star Wars character ever. This is the story of one nerds quest to find the forgotten stars of Star Wars! I'm Jamie Stangroom, and as excited as I was when I saw the first cast photo for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, I couldn't help but think that there was something missing. Lots of something. Someones. I felt nostalgic joy seeing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, but what about Logrey the Ewok? Greedo? What about the Gonk droid?! So I decided to go and find them. I was prepared to go to the ends of the earth and maybe even Wales in my journey to find the actors the franchise forgot. JJ Abrams may have overlooked them, but I won't!
