The Great Lakes are today used as a major water transport corridor for bulk goods. The Great Lakes Waterway connects all the lakes; the smaller Saint Lawrence Seaway connects the lakes to the Atlantic oceans. Some lake freighters are too large to use the Seaway, and only operate on the Waterway and lakes. In 2002, 162 million net tons of dry bulk cargo were moved on the Lakes. This was, in order of volume: iron ore, grain and potash.[98] The iron ore and much of the stone and coal are used in the steel industry. There is also some shipping of liquid and containerized cargo but most container ships cannot pass the locks on the Saint Lawrence Seaway because the ships are too wide. They carried freight as well as passengers and were known as "packet steamers" because of this. Dr. Robert Mayer “Bob” White, founding Administrator of NOAA, died Wednesday October 13, 2015, after a trailblazing career of public service. Dr. White became NOAA Administrator in 1972, following visionary leadership as the first Federal Coordinator of Meteorology and as Chief of the U.S. Weather Bureau, the latter being one of President John F. Kennedy’s final appointments. From the outset, Dr. White set a high bar for federal service by pioneering an approach to meteorology that intrinsically linked it to observing, understanding and interacting intelligently with the natural environment. He advocated tenaciously for better weather predictions, and to improve the global weather observing system through the still new technology of Earth-observing instruments carried on satellites. Dr. W...

The Great Lakes Storm of 1913, historically referred to as the "Big Blow," the "Freshwater Fury," or the "White Hurricane," was a blizzard with hurricane-force winds that devastated the Great Lakes Basin in the Midwestern United States and the province of Ontario in Canada from November 7 through November 10, 1913. The storm was most powerful on November 9, battering and overturning ships on four of the five Great Lakes, particularly Lake Huron. Deceptive lulls in the storm and the slow pace of weather reports contributed to the storm's destructiveness. Having a bad day? I bet we have worse ones for you. Between 2015 and 2017, I managed to capture footage of all 13 thousand-foot lake carriers in the Duluth, Minnesota area. So it seemed like a good idea to bring them all together for one video. Some of this footage has already been uploaded to my channel as individual videos, some hasn't. But I re-edited the footage and decided to go with natural sound instead of music background this time (even if the wind noise in the microphone is slightly annoying at times). Unfortunately, three of the ships didn't offer up Captain's salutes (American Integrity, Edwin H. Gott, and Burns Harbor). Here are the ships covered in the video. All were recorded in Duluth, Minnesota, except where noted: 0:21 Stewart J. Cort (Superior, Wisconsin) 3:04 Presque Isle 5:28 James R. Barker 8:00 Mesabi Miner 10:40 W...

The film chronicles a trip aboard the Ford Motor Company freighter as it voyages from the River Rouge Factory Complex to Duluth, Minnesota and back with a load of iron ore. A narrator provides a voice over throughout the film. The film begins with a title sequence showing the ship's equipment and inner workings. Afterward the film introduces the job titles of the crew--the captain, first mate, second mate, third mate, helmsmen, watchman, deck hands, engineers, oilers and wipers, and galley staff. The story of the freighter's trip begins with cranes...
The Great Lakes Triangle (PARANORMAL SUPERNATURAL OCCULT DOCUMENTARY) The Great Lakes account for more unexplained disappearances per unit area than the Bermuda Triangle. This is no small comparison, considering that the Bermuda Triangle is 16 times larger than the Great Lakes area. Because of the irregular shape of the Great Lakes, pilots — aware of the dangers within — ordinarily circumnavigate the lakes, even when overflying might be shorter. It is almost impossible for even the slowest aircraft to be more than 20 minutes from land. Today's airliner can cross Lake Erie through the middle in ten minutes. Faster aircraft can do it in much less than four minutes. Over any point on any of the Great Lakes it is possible for the pilot of any jet airliner to shut down all his engines and lit...
We always have to keep in mind that a Documentary, after all, can tell lies and it can tell lies because it lays claim to a form of veracity which fiction doesn't. Some of the documentaries are made just to discredit some particular person, party, organization, system etc, but most of them here on TDF are non biased, without prejudice and worth watching.

We are one
Nothing could be clearer under the sun
There's none you should hold dearer than the ones
Who will race at your side as we run
Forever to the end
To the end
We filled our glasses, drank a toast and raised our weary heads
Nothing but the finest for the things we leave unsaid
I woke up in another time, centuries ahead but still undone
We are gone
Always we are spinning around the sun
Nothing stops the time when you are done
It keeps on going and we run
Forever to the end
To the end
Out behind the cities all the trophies turn to rust
The things we've spent our lives creating slowly gather dust
The moon will hang as pale and as lonely as a ghost when we're gone
We are one
Nothing could be clearer under the sun
There are none you should hold dearer than the ones
Who will race at your side as we run
Forever to the end
We run forever
This is the sum of our endeavours.
