Tangier (/tænˈdʒɪər/; Arabic: طنجة Ṭanja; Berber: ⵟⴰⵏⵊⴰ Ṭanja) and sometimes referred as Tangiers, is a major city in northern Morocco. It is located on the North African coast at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel. It is the capital of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region and of the Tangier-Assilah prefecture of Morocco.
The history of Tangier is very rich, due to the historical presence of many civilizations and cultures starting from before the 5th century BCE. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading center to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a refuge for many cultures. In 1923, Tangier was considered as having international status by foreign colonial powers, and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.
The city is currently undergoing rapid development and modernization. Projects include new tourism projects along the bay, a modern business district called Tangier City Center, a new airport terminal and a new football stadium. Tangier's economy is also set to benefit greatly from the new Tanger-Med port.
Morocco (i/məˈrɒkoʊ/; Arabic: المغرب al-Maġrib; Berber: ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱl'Meġrib; French: Maroc), officially the Kingdom of Morocco, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Geographically, Morocco is characterized by a rugged mountainous interior and large portions of desert. It is one of only three countries (with Spain and France) to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. The Arabic name al-Mamlakah al-Maghribiyah (Arabic: المملكة المغربية, meaning "The Western Kingdom") and Al-Maghrib (Arabic: المغرب, meaning "The West") are commonly used as alternate names.
Morocco has a population of over 33.8 million and an area of 446,550 km2 (172,410 sq mi). Its political capital is Rabat, although the largest city is Casablanca; other major cities include Marrakesh, Tangier, Tetouan, Salé, Fes, Agadir, Meknes, Oujda, Kenitra, and Nador. A historically prominent regional power, Morocco has a history of independence not shared by its neighbours. Its distinct culture is a blend of Arab, indigenous Berber, Sub-Saharan African, and European influences.
Four Winds is an EP by the indie rock band Bright Eyes, that was released on March 6, 2007. The title track is the first single from their album Cassadaga. The other 5 tracks are exclusive b-sides from the 2006 recording sessions. It is marketed as being "quietly enchanting" and including "a wandering country charm and all of the story-telling seductiveness of earlier work. The fiddle refrain in the verse utilizes a melody identical to that of the vocal refrain ("Na, na na, na na na na") in Joan Baez's rendition of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The song "Four Winds" was ranked #5 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
The title song makes several references to "The Second Coming" by William Butler Yeats, most famously in the refrain, which references "slouching towards Bethlehem."
On January 22, 2007, it was leaked onto the internet. The track "Smoke Without Fire" features guest vocals from singer-songwriter M. Ward.
A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

Seven expats tell seven journeys which led them to Tangier. Colourful, chaotic, exuberant, eccentric, artistic, intellectual are the adjectives which link them all. Of course they were preceded by many others - Matisse, Delacroix, Yves Saint Laurent, Mark Twain - who were intoxicated by the place. The following quote gives a glimpse of the lives of those who live there: "I stepped into the church where I knew I would find today’s versions: the people who came and never left. A cornerstone of art and fashion is that some people believe what they see and others see what they believe. Tangier is filled with the latter group and inside the church they were kneeling. A Swiss gentleman appeared to be wearing an entire mile of green cashmere dripping from his shoulders. A Frenchman with a ...

A day trip down to the Port City of Tangiers, Morocco. It appears getting a guide is almost mandatory. Our Guide would not SHUT UP! Then he took us only to the areas where there was shopping. I told him if he came to Los Angeles, I would never dream of just taking him to the malls and shopping centers. If you can figure out where you are, I highly recommend NOT getting a guide, they are payed to take you to the rug merchants, stores and markets. It would be easier to look at a Rick Steve's guide map. By the way, never pay over 10 Euros for a guide if you have to have one. They start out at 150 Euros, but one would be just plain stupid.

Otherwise it may sour your want to visit the rest of this amazing country. Took me several years after to force myself to go back and see the beauty of this country. While traveling in Spain I decided to do a day trip to Tangier Morocco. From The rock of Gibraltar, it is less than an hour ferry ride away. 1000's of people make this trip a day, so I can understand how it would get annoying to the locals or maybe they were having a bad day, but almost everyone I encountered was very rude. The tour was at a run, the guide didn't even give us much time to look. We had vendors following us and harassing u...

Subscribe to the Refinery29 channel: http://bit.ly/subscribe-to-r29 Sex, drugs, rock and roll: Pick your poison. Tangier used to be a place to freely engage in the hedonistic pleasures of your choice — all while not breaking the law or your budget. In the '40s and '50s, the coastal city became the light to which dozens of Western creatives (beat writers like William Burroughs, rock musicians like The Rolling Stones, and fashion designers like Yves Saint Laurent) flocked. As an international zone, Tangier lacked the rules and regulations that were constraining many artistic minds in the U.S., Europe, and Australia at the time. So, it attracted a colorful community. Fast-forward 60 years, and some of those expats are still there. The reality they've created for themselves is not quite Mor...

Morocco is fulfulling our dreams about the Tales of One Thousand and One Nights even today. It is an exotic and romantic country with the thousand miracles or the Arab world; old cities, mosques, bazaars, natural beauties from palm tree gardens to sand dunes and from the frosty tops of the Atlas mountains to the beaches of Agadir. There are the oases in the Sahara, the colorful buildings of Marrakesh, the Anti-Atlas’s green valleys and the forts of the Foreign Legion. The royal cities are all wonderful: Casablanca, well known from the famous movie with the same title, the capital, Rabat, the ancient Fes, and the elegant cultural centre, Marrakesh. The Djemaa El Fna square has a unique atmosphere, where magicians, henna painters, acrobats, belly dancers, tale tellers from the Sahara, healer...

From the album the hurdy gurdy man
In Tangier down a windy street
Where beggars meet and on old rags do sleep
The women dressed in soiled white sheet
With starving kids by their side.
With staring eyes that never weep
Old Moroccans with their elephantiasis feet
Who life and death treat so cheap
Happy in their hunger
For they live longer than their fathers.
