Tuvalu (i/tuːˈvɑːluː/ too-VAH-loo or /ˈtuːvəluː/ TOO-və-loo), formerly known as the Ellice Islands, is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia. It comprises three reef islands and six true atolls spread out between the latitude of 5° to 10° south and longitude of 176° to 180°, west of the International Date Line.
Its nearest neighbours are Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa and Fiji. Tuvalu has a population of 10,837 (2012 census). The total land area of the islands of Tuvalu is 26 square kilometres (10 sq mi).
The first inhabitants of Tuvalu were Polynesians. The pattern of settlement that is believed to have occurred is that the Polynesians spread out from Samoa and Tonga into the Tuvaluan atolls, with Tuvalu providing a stepping stone to migration into the Polynesian Outlier communities in Melanesia and Micronesia.
In 1568, Spanish navigator Álvaro de Mendaña was the first European to sail through the archipelago, sighting the island of Nui during his expedition in search of Terra Australis. In 1819 the island of Funafuti was named Ellice's Island; the name Ellice was applied to all nine islands after the work of English hydrographer Alexander George Findlay. The islands came under Britain's sphere of influence in the late 19th century, when each of the Ellice Islands was declared a British Protectorate by Captain Gibson of HMS Curacoa between 9 and 16 October 1892. The Ellice Islands were administered as British protectorate by a Resident Commissioner from 1892 to 1916 as part of the British Western Pacific Territories (BWPT), and then as part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands colony from 1916 to 1974.

The fourth smallest nation in the world -- Tuvalu -- consists of nine low-lying islands with the landmass of 26km2 in the vast ocean of the South Pacific. While most news headlines on climate change tend to emphasize, quite rightly, the existential threats on this tiny nation from sea-level rise, there are many other aspects of climate change impacts that have received less attention by the international community than they deserve, but have extraordinary impacts on communities' vulnerability.

War is never fun, exciting or a source of glory for anyone (well, at least it shouldn’t be). Only someone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand would believe such a thing. As many have put it over the years: “War is hell,” pure and simple. And because this statement is a fact, most countries around the world have prepared themselves accordingly, unwilling to be taken unawares by a military invasion. Though actual wars for conquest are a rare thing nowadays, this doesn’t mean that armed conflicts don’t happen. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net →Top 10 Objects That Were Clearly Invented Just to Annoy Physics: https://youtu.be/0MVGeRa-vLo Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from Top...

It is the domain of a country that could disappear as a result of climate change. The smartest thing a Smart TV could do was to help. UPDATE on 21st November 2013: "DEBUNKED?" added to my previous title Under Part II of this report you will find comment by Tj Wiets who said the round grey ball at Tuvalu is just the sun reflecting on the ocean. He then provided 2 videos which prove his point: Sun reflecting off the ocean's surface http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xk6CfCrE3k Oscillation of Solar Reflection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duAbqg2Pa0U As for the clouds racing from Nuku Hiva to Tuvalu, which are grey round the edges I imagine that the white in the middle is the sun's brilliance flashing. This seems to be a logical explanation. Just as well I didn't post all my footage! Phew! Many thanks to Tj Wiets. Leaving a question mark on DEBUNKED in case any other viewers disagree. Now I can get a good night's sleep ins...

Islas Secas is powered a 355kW PV array located next to the island’s air strip. Similar to a plug-in Prius, the PV array (and batteries) power all the island’s systems, 365 days of the year. For heavy loads or unexpected bad weather, the system can call on two 200kW diesel generators at any time. CivicSolar.com is proud to have played a role in this project - and in the course of designing the energy system and supplying the equipment - to have worked with a talented and dedicated team both on and off the island. The solar array powers all the appliances, lighting, air conditioning and systems on the island - switching off at dusk, to run only on silent battery power at night. Then, again the next morning, the solar array will switch back on at sunrise to refuel the batteries from the ni...

Tuvalu is a small island nation in the Pacific, at an elevation of only 15 feet, rising sea levels are a serious threat. BYU-Hawaii SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) students traveled there to help to train the youth, as they will be the leaders of tomorrow.
The effects of rising sea levels due to global warming seem a long way off for most of us, but for the people of the small Pacific island nation of Tuvalu, the threat is more imminent. With water now up to some families' doorsteps during king tides and a higher water table interfering with food production, time is fast running out for the population of Tuvalu. How does that old song go? I forgot the words.
There was a boy who believed love is all you need.
He may have been right, it depends on what you mean.
What do you mean by love?
You told me no, said you love me though.
You had to go your own way.
If you change your mind, you know where to find me,
I'll be around.
Before the new dream can fly the old one has to die.
When we were boys we believed the dream was all we'd need.
Turned out to be wrong, now it's time to rise and shine
Singing a brand new song.
You told me no, said you love me though.
You had to go your own way.
If you change your mind, you know where to find me,
I'll be around.
I'll be around.
Woah.
How does that old song go? I forgot the words. Hey!
You told me no, said you love me though.
You had to go your own way.
If you change your mind, you know where to find me,
I'll be around.
You told me no, said you love me though.
You had to go your own way.
If you change your mind, you know where to find me,
I'll be around.
