Nauru (/nɑːˈuːruː/ nah-OO-roo or /ˈnɑːruː/ NAHR-oo), officially the Republic of Nauru (Nauruan: Repubrikin Naoero) and formerly known as Pleasant Island, is an island country in Micronesia in the Central Pacific. Its nearest neighbour is Banaba Island in Kiribati, 300 kilometres (186 mi) to the east. With 9,488 residents in a 21-square-kilometre (8.1 sq mi) area, Nauru is the smallest state in the South Pacific and third smallest state by area in the world, behind only Vatican City and Monaco.
Settled by native peoples from Micronesia and Polynesia, Nauru was annexed and claimed as a colony by the German Empire in the late 19th century. After World War I, Nauru became a League of Nations mandate administered by Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. During World War II, Nauru was occupied by Japanese troops, who were bypassed by the Allied advance across the Pacific. After the war ended, the country entered into UN trusteeship. Nauru gained its independence in 1968.

Refugees on manus island offered chance to move to nauru. Refugees held by Australia on Manus Island have been offered the chance to move to Australia’s other offshore detention island of Nauru. The detention centre on Manus has become increasingly tense, chaotic and unstable in recent weeks, as the Papua New Guinea and Australian governments scramble to close it down by the self-imposed deadline of 31 October. Hundreds of refugees are refusing to leave the centre – ruled illegal by PNG’s highest court more than a year ago – saying they are not safe in... --------------------- DONT FORGET SUBSCRIBE FOR ME : https://goo.gl/VPm8QD

Over the last century or so, our world has become a pretty darn big place. Between 1980 and 2014, the World Health Organization estimates global obesity doubled. In the US alone, more than two thirds of all adults are considered overweight, with one third considered obese (33%). That’s gotta be a world leader, right? Well, believe it or not, America doesn’t even break the top 10 countries on the obesity scale. It sits at 16th, between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. That’s right. There are at least fifteen countries with bigger waistlines than in the US. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab;=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google...

Amazingly the worlds smallest island nation hasn't had an AFL league for almost two years after their local tournament was disbanded due to violence on and off the pitch.

https://www.expedia.com/Vanuatu.d192.Destination-Travel-Guides The Republic of Vanuatu lies in the South Pacific Ocean, just a short flight from Australia and New Zealand. Most visitors to Vanuatu arrive at the nation’s capital, Port Vila, situated on the main island of Efate. Vila, as it’s affectionately known, sits at the edge of a magnificent natural harbor filled with corals and sea life. Like many South Pacific ports, Vila is wonderfully relaxed, so leave your designer gear at home, pull on some flip flops and slide into island time. Just a ten-minute drive from port Vila, is Ekasup Cultural Village, where proud villagers are waiting to share their centuries-old customs, crafts, music and stories. From Vila, take a 50-minute flight to Espiritu Santo. At the island’s sleep...

Kiribati Travel Guide: Curving its way above and below the equator, the Republic of Kiribati (pronounced 'Kiri-bas') encompasses the Gilbert, Phoenix and Line Islands, and was known under British rule as the Gilbert Islands. Measured by land size Kiribati is a tiny nation of just over 810 sq km, but its 33 atolls span a huge 3.5 million sq km of the Pacific. Most atolls surround turquoise lagoons and barely rise above the surrounding ocean, so it's rare to be out of the sight and sound of the sea. Kiribati's recent colonial and WWII history has had little impact on the outer islands, where the people subsist on coconuts, breadfruit and fish as they have done for centuries. Even on the main island, Tarawa, most locals live in traditional raised thatched huts. Western influence is increasin...
