Christopher Columbus (/kəˈlʌmbəs/; Italian: Cristoforo Colombo; Spanish: Cristóbal Colón; Portuguese: Cristóvão Colombo; between 31 October 1450 and 30 October 1451 in Genoa – 20 May 1506 in Valladolid) was an Italian explorer, navigator, colonizer and citizen of the Republic of Genoa. Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Those voyages, and his efforts to establish permanent settlements on the island of Hispaniola, initiated the Spanish colonization of the New World.
In the context of emerging Western imperialism and economic competition between European kingdoms through the establishment of trade routes and colonies, Columbus's proposal to reach the East Indies by sailing westward eventually received the support of the Spanish Crown, which saw in it a chance to enter the spice trade with Asia through a new westward route. During his first voyage in 1492, instead of arriving at Japan as he had intended, Columbus reached the New World, landing on an island in the Bahamas archipelago that he named "San Salvador". Over the course of three more voyages, Columbus visited the Greater and Lesser Antilles, as well as the Caribbean coast of Venezuela and Central America, claiming all of it for the Crown of Castile.

Arawak was the language of the first settlers on the island of Jamaica, the Tainos. The Tainos arrived in Jamaica somewhere near 600 AD. It is assumed that the Tainos were the natives of the northern coast of South America. The Arawakan speaking Tainos were peace-loving people. They settled down in Jamaica and continued to live there for almost 900 years. The existence of the Tainos was threatened when the Spanish invaded Jamaica in 1494. Spanish Conquest was devastating to the First Nation on the Island which let to extinction. The Tainos became an extinct race within 50 years of the arrival of the Spanish. People were killed, some died of hunger, some were unable to survive the diseases brought in by the Spanish. Many committed suicide to escape being enslaved by the Spanish. With the...

An animation which showcases the lifestyle and cultures of the Arawaks.
A history day project explaining the conflict and compromise of the interations between native Arawak Indians and Columbus. Conflict also occurred when the Indians tried to defend themselves; Columbus captured the natives and either used them as slaves or had them killed. The compromise in this situation was that the Arawaks were able to help Columbus and his men by showing them how to survive in this foreign land while Columbus supplied the indigenous people with new technology and introduced them to Christianity. Although in the beginning the Spanish were very dependent on the cooperation and help from the Arawak Indians, in the end the Spanish completely conquered the new land while the Arawaks were unable to survive.
A filmmaker’s clandestine expedition through the communist island of Cuba in search of an indigenous tribe rumored extinct for over three centuries. According to most historical accounts the Taínos, native people of Caribbean islands like Puerto Rico, Hispañola, and Cuba, became extinct shortly after the arrival of the Spaniards in 1492. After hearing a rumor about the existence of a surviving tribe in Guantanamo, Cuba, filmmakers Dre Torres and Tony Cortes travel to the communist country to find out the truth. What results is a dangerous covert voyage through the highly restricted mountains of Yateras despite the orders of Cuban military officials. A school Interview with Christopher Columbus!!!
Columbus finally earns himself an interview with the King of Lisbon for the purpose of better explaining the value of reaching the Indies by sailing west. The King at first seems interested by Columbus's proposed-project, and so assembles a group of experts to assess its worth. However, the group of examiners reject the project, when Columbus then suddenly learns of the unfortunate death of Felipa back in Porto Santo. Columbus leaves Portugal at once with his son Diego and goes to Castile. click here to watch the full playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8WdNw9qMAA&list;=PLYXievo3ibiUmVzVyvIEfnkHHEdga3GR7 SUBSCRIBE to our channel: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1H4TpuRT7msxfqG0jt3sNw?sub_confirmation=1

The Native Americans - A Documentary Film Native Americans who live within the boundaries of the current United States (consisting of the indigenous folks of Alaska and Hawaii) are maded of many, unique people, bands and ethnic groups, several of which make it through as intact, sovereign countries. The term "Native American" has been taken on by major papers and some academic groups, yet does not traditionally include Native Hawaiians or particular Alaskan Natives, such as Aleut, Yup'ik, or Inuit peoples. Since the end of the 15th century, the movement of Europeans to the Americas has actually led to centuries of dispute and modification between Old and New World cultures. Lots of Native Americans have historically lived as hunter-gatherer cultures and preserved their pasts by dental tr...
