Varenna is a comune (municipality) on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Milan and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Lecco.
Varenna was founded by local fishermen in 769, and was later allied of the commune of Milan. In 1126 it was destroyed by the rival commune of Como, and later received the refugees from the Isola Comacina, who had met the same fate (1169).
Varenna borders the following municipalities: Esino Lario, Lierna, Oliveto Lario, Perledo. The main sights are the Castello di Vezio, a small museum dedicated to the Lariosaurus and a sea reptile from the Middle Triassic period. Across the lake in the province of Como are: Bellagio, Griante and Menaggio.
It is served by a station on the Tirano–Lecco railway.
Como (Italian pronunciation: [ˈkɔːmo],locally: [ˈkoːmo];Lombard: Còmm; Latin: Novum Comum) is a city and comune in Lombardy, Italy. It is the administrative capital of the Province of Como.
Its proximity to Lake Como and to the Alps has made Como a tourist destination and the city contains numerous works of art, churches, gardens, museums, theatres, parks and palaces: the Duomo (seat of Diocese of Como), the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio, the Villa Olmo, the public gardens with the Tempio Voltiano, the Teatro Sociale, the Broletto (the city's medieval town hall) and the 20th century Casa del Fascio.
With 215,320 arrivals, in 2013 Como was the fourth most visited city in Lombardy after Milan, Bergamo and Brescia.
Como was the birthplace of many historical figures, including the poet Caecilius mentioned by Catullus in the 1st century BCE, writers Pliny the Elder and the Younger, Pope Innocent XI, scientist Alessandro Volta, and Cosima Liszt, second wife of Richard Wagner and long-term director of the Bayreuth Festival.
A lake is an area of variable size filled with water, localized in a basin, that is surrounded by land, apart from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean (except for sea lochs in Scotland and Ireland), and therefore are distinct from lagoons, and are also larger and deeper than ponds, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which are usually flowing. However most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams.
Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Other lakes are found in endorheic basins or along the courses of mature rivers. In some parts of the world there are many lakes because of chaotic drainage patterns left over from the last Ice Age. All lakes are temporary over geologic time scales, as they will slowly fill in with sediments or spill out of the basin containing them.
Many lakes are artificial and are constructed for industrial or agricultural use, for hydro-electric power generation or domestic water supply, or for aesthetic or recreational purposes.

Italy (i/ˈɪtəli/; Italian: Italia [iˈtaːlja]), officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a unitary parliamentary republic in Europe. Italy covers an area of 301,338 km2 (116,347 sq mi) and has a largely Mediterranean and temperate climate; due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). With 61 million inhabitants, it is the 4th most populous EU member state. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City.
Since ancient times, Greeks, Etruscans and Celts have inhabited the south, centre and north of the Italian Peninsula respectively. Rome ultimately emerged as the dominant power, conquering much of the ancient world and becoming the leading cultural, political, and religious centre of Western civilisation. The legacy of the Roman Empire is widespread and can be observed in the global distribution of civilian law, Republican governments, Christianity and the latin script.

The village of Varenna is divided into a grid of streets that descend steep into the lake of Como, where the houses are reflected in the water as in certain areas of Liguria Il borgo di Varenna si articola in un reticolo di viuzze che calano ripide verso il lago di Como, dove le case si specchiano nell'acqua come in certe zone della liguria music clouds /avenida del sol / gentle breeze
Lake Como — lined with palm trees and elegant pastel-colored villas, crowned by snowcapped mountains, and criss-crossed by a fleet of ferries and hydrofoils — is a great place to take a break from the intensity of Italy that one finds further south. Bellagio is a classy combination of Old World elegance and new world luxury. Varenna has a romantic waterside promenade, a tiny harbor, and inviting narrow lanes. Part III of our Europe trip. We travel from Chur, Switzerland to Varenna on Lake Como, Italy. We explore Varenna's old town center, the lakeside promenade, Varenna's habour, a dizzying ride up a funky fernicular at the Hotel Eremo Gaudio, breathtaking views and the gardens of the Villa Montereso. Enjoy!
We visited the quaint Italian village of Varenna beside the beautiful Lake Como, or Lago di Como for our holiday or vacation this year, 2015. We went for the first two weeks of September, and I have to say, the weather was still mostly good. Varenna is a nice ancient town, similar perhaps to Bellagio, but a little less dedicated to tourism. Thus, prices are lower and the pace is slower. There is a nice walk along the lakeside from the ferry or train station to the old town, where you can find several churches and restaurants, steep stairways, and Villa Monastero which I visit in Part 7 of this series. ABOUT ALPHATUCANA I mostly do gameplay playthroughs on easier levels of difficulty for beginners, some (hopefully) intelligent vlogging about current affairs, science, money and philosophy,...
32 days in Italy! Our first location was Varenna on Lake Como where we also visited other towns on the shores of the huge lake. This video has some of the most beautiful scenes & interesting locations with music selected for the area. Enjoy!
Ich hatte Sehnsucht
Das Verlangen so stark
War zu verletzlich, so zerbrechlich
Erst nach Jahren begreif' ich das
Ein Orkan stürmt in mir
Vielleicht liegt es nur an dir
Ob er wütet oder ruht
Doch der Frust zerstört den Mut
Sie war zu kurz die Zeit
Für `ne Beziehung nicht bereit
Bin ich schlauer?
Mit viel mehr Power?
Ich fühl' mich leer und verbraucht
Hast meine Gefühle missbraucht
Mein Herz schrie nach Verrat
Als du erneut im meine Liebe batst
Feigheit, Unsicherheit
Viel befreiter, trotz einsamer Reiter
Wär' total verrückt dich nochmal zu berühren.
Verfall' dir aufs neue
Hast mich verlassen...
