Ancient Discoveries was a television series that premiered on December 21, 2003, on The History Channel. The program focused on ancient technologies. The show's theme was that many inventions which are thought to be modern have ancient roots or in some cases may have been lost and then reinvented. The program was a follow-up to a special originally broadcast in 2005 which focused on technologies from the Ancient Roman era such as the Antikythera mechanism and inventors such as Heron of Alexandria. Episodes of the regular series expanded to cover other areas such as Egypt, China and East Asia, and the Islamic world.
Ancient Discoveries was made for The History Channel by Wild Dream Films based in Cardiff in the UK. Much of the filming was on location across the world. The series used contributions from archaeologists and other experts, footage of historical sites and artifacts, computer generated reconstructions, and dramatized reconstructions along with experiments and tests on reconstructed artifacts.
Etruscan civilization (/ᵻˈtrʌskən/) is the modern name given to a civilization of ancient Italy in the area corresponding roughly to Tuscany, western Umbria, and northern Lazio. The ancient Romans called its creators the Tusci or Etrusci. Their Roman name is the origin of the terms Tuscany, which refers to their heartland, and Etruria, which can refer to their wider region.
In Attic Greek, the Etruscans were known as Τυρρηνοὶ (Tyrrhēnoi), earlier Tyrsenoi, from which the Romans derived the names Tyrrhēni (Etruscans), Tyrrhēnia (Etruria), and Mare Tyrrhēnum (Tyrrhenian Sea), prompting some to associate them with the Teresh (Sea Peoples). The word may also be related to the Hittite Taruisa (gr. Tursha). The Etruscans called themselves Rasenna, which was syncopated to Rasna or Raśna.
As distinguished by its unique language, this civilization endured from before the time of the earliest Etruscan inscriptions (c. 700 BC) until its assimilation into the Roman Republic in the late 4th century BC. At its maximum extent, during the foundational period of Rome and the Roman kingdom, Etruscan civilization flourished in three confederacies of cities: of Etruria, of the Po valley with the eastern Alps, and of Latium and Campania.
History (originally The History Channel, from 1995 to 2008) is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by A+E Networks, a joint venture between the Hearst Corporation and the Disney–ABC Television Group division of The Walt Disney Company.
It originally broadcast documentary programs and historical fiction series. However, since 2008, it has mostly broadcast a variety of reality television series such as Pawn Stars, Ax Men, and other non-history related content. Additionally, the network is frequently criticized by scientists, historians, and skeptics for broadcasting pseudo-documentaries, unsubstantiated and sensational investigative programming, such as Ancient Aliens, UFO Hunters, Brad Meltzer's Decoded and the Nostradamus Effect. As of February 2015, approximately 96,149,000 American households (82.6% of households with television) receive History.
International localized versions of History are available, in various forms, in India, Canada, Europe, Australia, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The first European version was launched in Scandinavia in 1997 by Viasat which now operates their own channel, Viasat History.
The Etruscan (original title Turms, Kuolematon which translates to Turms, Immortal) is a novel by Mika Waltari, published in 1956, telling of the adventures of a young man, Turms, which begins approximately in 480 BC. It tells of the spiritual development of Turms, as he adventures from Greece to Sicily, then to Rome and then finally to Tuscany, where he learns of his immortality and his duties to the future. There are many actual historical events in this book, but how Turms gets involved in them is fictitious.
Italy's lost language? They gave Rome the alphabet, but we hardly know them. Here's how we pieced together the extinct language of an early Italian civilization. Subscribe for language: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=NativLang Become my patron: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=584038 ~ Briefly ~ A strange Egyptian mummy was found in the 1800s. Its bandages were filled with the letters of a book - not an Egyptian book, but a book written in an archaic Italian language known to Romans as "Etruscan". The book held a deeper mystery beyond the question of its provenance: it couldn't be read, not because the text was undeciphered but because the language was unknown. Throughout the video we'll discover what we can (and can't) say about Etruscan sounds and words. You'll gl...
Ancient history is the aggregate of past events from the beginning of recorded human history and extending as far as the Early Middle Ages or the Postclassical Era. The span of recorded history is roughly 5,000 years, beginning with Sumerian Cuneiform script, the oldest discovered form of coherent writing from the protoliterate period around the 30th century BC. The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to history in the Old World from the beginning of recorded Greek history in 776 BC (First Olympiad). This roughly coincides with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome, and the beginning of the Archaic period in Ancient Greece. Although the ending date of ancient history is disputed, some Western scholars use the fa...

The Etruscan language (/ᵻˈtrʌskən/) was the spoken and written language of the Etruscan civilization, in Italy, in the ancient region of Etruria (modern Tuscany plus western Umbria and northern Latium) and in parts of Campania, Lombardy, Veneto, and Emilia-Romagna (where the Etruscans were displaced by Gauls). Etruscan influenced Latin, but was eventually completely superseded by it. The Etruscans left around 13,000 inscriptions which have been found so far, only a handful of which are of significant length, some bilingual inscriptions with texts also in Latin, Greek, or Phoenician, and a few dozen loanwords, such as the name Roma (from Etruscan Ruma), but Etruscan's influence was significant. The following is an excerpt from the Pyrgi tablets. The text: ita tmia icac he ramašva vatieχe...
A clip about the history of the Etruscans. Not much is known about them except for what has been found in the form of art, in burial sites and the occasional literary mentions by Greeks and Romans. Contrary to what the narrator says, though, they did leave written records behind but very little surviving writings have been found which isn't strange considering that their language went extinct soon after the rise of Rome.

http://www.discoverynews.com For the first time, Italian archaeologists have uncovered an intact Etruscan house. Researchers hope this find sheds light on the mysterious pre-Roman civilization. Rossella Lorenzi reports.
Secrets in the Dust II Uncovering the Etruscans It took an Italian doctor in the 1870s to discover the legendary 12th City of the Etruscans, the mysterious people the Romans tried to write out of history, because they were jealous of this superior civilization that they had thrust aside. It was a chance find of a coin in a field that led Isodoro Falchi to indentify the site Vetulonia the last township of the Etruscan federation. This loose grouping of hilltop cities inhabited Italy’s beautiful Tuscany region for 1,000 years, until their disappearance around 500 BC. Because they decorated their tombs as facsimiles of their homes, we know exactly how they lived. From these, their unmistakable statues and other artifacts, we know that they used iron tools, built towns with stone temples, and...
[Re-uploaded with better audio]. Gary will be presenting his latest research at Megalithomania on 12th-13th May 2018 in Glastonbury, UK. Details coming soon. Get DVD or download with full lecture and interview here: http://www.megalithomania.co.uk/2013-gary-biltcliffe-megalithic-italy.html - Watch exclusive interview here: http://youtu.be/c38n4cgXuJQ During a holiday in Italy Gary discovered that certain hilltop towns and villages have in their outer walls cyclopean and polygonal stones reminiscent of those found in Peru and Egypt. They are often difficult to find, off the beaten track, partially hidden behind undergrowth and labelled as Roman or Etruscan. Although ignored by archaeologists and historians, there is evidence that these ancient walls were built by a highly advanced prehis...
This video covers the basic development of the Etruscan Alphabet from the Archaic to Neo-Etruscan period. Here is a image showing the development of the Latin alphabet and how Etruscan fits in with that: http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~rfradkin/latin.html Here are the 2 book referenced at the end of the video: The Etruscan Language by Larissa and Giuliano Bonfonte http://amzn.to/1cXgfTk Zikh Rasna by Rex Wallace: http://bit.ly/1bgYNdK I recommend Rex Wallace's book for understanding the language since he breaks down everything into easily digestible segments. The Bonfonte's have a great book that show the connection of language and archaeology.
This video shows Etruscan temple architecture and how to reproduce it in Minecraft.

Scripted and directed by Paul Schaffranke, produced and filmed by Horatio Rybnikar (Harry Hubbard) and is the first of several presentations yet to follow. This spectacular, 7 part video begins by showing the participant the ancient alphabets used to break Etruscan after becoming a 'dead' language over 2400 years ago. Next, comes the decipherments of Archaic Latin inscriptions found in Italy and the program moves into the bilingual inscriptions of Etruscan and Phoenician known as the Pyrgi Tablets. The student is then presented with a Lexicon showing each word origin and meaning. The Lexicon is followed by deciphering the Famous Duenos Script that has eluded scholars for several decades since its discovery. The final portion of the program is the deciphering of the Numerius Tablet consider...
