Belo Horizonte (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˌbɛloɾiˈzõtʃi];Beautiful Horizon) is the sixth largest city in Brazil, the thirteenth largest city in South America and the sixteenth largest city in the Americas. The metropolis is anchor to the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area, ranked as the third most populous metropolitan area in Brazil, the nineteenth most populous in the Americas and the forty-second largest in the world. Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil's second most populous state. It is the first planned modern city in Brazil.
The region was first settled in the early 18th century, but the city as it is known today was planned and constructed in the 1890s, in order to replace Ouro Preto as the capital of Minas Gerais. The city features a mixture of contemporary and classical buildings, and is home to several modern Brazilian architectural icons, most notably the Pampulha Complex. In planning the city, Aarão Reis and Francisco Bicalho sought inspiration in the urban planning of Washington, D.C. The city has employed notable programs in urban revitalization and food security, for which it has been awarded international accolades.
Belo Corporation /ˈbiːloʊ/ was a Dallas-based media company that owned 20 commercial broadcasting television stations and two regional 24-hour cable news television channels. The company was previously known as A. H. Belo Corporation after one of the early owners of the company, Alfred Horatio Belo, now the name of the newspaper company spun off from Belo early in 2008. Belo had its headquarters in the Belo Building in Downtown Dallas, designed by Dallas architects Omniplan and constructed between 1983 and 1985.
Coordinates: 32°46′35″N 96°48′20″W / 32.77639°N 96.80556°W / 32.77639; -96.80556
The company traces its roots back to 1842 with the introduction of The Daily News in Galveston, Texas. Its flagship, The Dallas Morning News, has been publishing since 1885. The name A.H. Belo Corporation was applied to the company in 1926. The name was shortened to Belo Corporation in 2002.
On October 1, 2007, Belo announced the separation of its newspaper and television businesses by spinning off its newspaper business to shareholders as A. H. Belo, officially completed in February 2008. The television business retains the Belo Corporation name (without the "A. H." initials). The spin-off was structured so that the broadcasting company is the legal successor to the prior company.

Belo Horizonte, Brazil - http://www.tourist2townie.com/ Travel Deeper with me on a long weekend to the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte. I met up with a local friend and he showed me his favorite things to do in Belo Horizonte. I explored the central market, visited the cultural center, took a day trip to Inhotim, discovered the vibrant Belo Horizonte nightlife and checked out the Feria Hippie on Sunday. In between all this, I had a chance to see a different side of the city and interact with locals, which left me with an incredible travel experience. I can honestly say that the people of Belo Horizonte were some of the most friendly and welcoming that I've met during my year of living in Brazil. Create your own video on http://studio.stupeflix.com/?w=1 ! A small farm in Curral del Rey. An old picture of Belo Horizonte. An office building in the Savassi region. Modern office buildings at Afonso Pena Avenue. Liberty Square. The Serra do Curral mountains are the symbol of the city. A slogan that has become as popular among Belo Horizontinians as I ♥ NY to New Yorkers. Belo Horizonte is not different from other major Brazilian cities, as seen here with the contrast between a favela and small villas denoting social inequalty. The Mineirão Stadium with the Mineirinho arena next to it.
