The Congo Republic has inaugurated a $109 million hydroelectric dam constructed by China Gezhouba Group. The 19.9 megawatt dam in the northern town of Liouesso brings Congo's hydroelectric production to 214 megawatts, nearly half of total national power output. Oil currently accounts for about 65 percent of the central African country's GDP, but Congo is aiming to diversify its economy by increasing investments in infrastructure. The Liouesso dam is expected to give great productive capacity to the businesses set up in the region. The country's infrastructure minister, however, says the government is yet to find buyers for three-quarters of the dam's output. Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the inflation plagued Democratic Republic of Congo. While the Congolese government quits and IMF talks begin, the idea of fixing the economy without printing money is coming up as a possibility, but it's too little, too late. The IMF will simply force the people of Congo further into debt and poverty. Governments and central banks always turn to higher globalist powers to save themselves from the horrors of central planning and taking tips from globalist powers. It seems repetitive because it is and as the Hegelian Dialectic goes, it's problem, reaction, solution repeat and this will continue on to eternity as long as people don't understand the root problems. Congo has the 3rd highest inflation rate in the world with an official inflation rate pegged at 54.31%. Their budget deficit is -6.20%. Their debt to GDP is 83%. The country is almost entirely dependent on oil which is historically disastrous long term. Currency is printed out of thin air (fiat), creating debt by inception and abundant inflation. This is why this is such a self inflicted wound and why the people of Congo need to stand up against this insanity which unfortunately, most of the world is familiar with. Basically every country in the world is faced with an out of control fiat system. Or perhaps that should be corrected... The problem is that it IS controlled! We've seen fellow neighbor countries to Congo deal with a similar situation before considering Zimbabwe's hyperinflation which lead to poor billionaires and trillionaires as the central planners continues to just add zeros to the end of numbers. This situation is currently headed in the same direction. A populace in debt is a populace in servitude and that's exactly where the state wants them. Moreover, that's exactly where the government wants them. The chaos that ensues ensures even more divide and more servitude among the people. The people of Congo are very independent people. They are strong and face disaster regularly which is why they can stand to be very strong in the long term if they stand up against this system and push for a voluntary society based in free markets and the non-aggression principle. But of course most people are more willing to fall into communism instead due to low information on that which affects everyone. Money. We wish the very best to those living in the Democratic Republic of Congo! Stay tuned as we continue to cover these issues! The Democratic Republic of Congo has cut its economic growth forecast for 2016 from 9 percent to 4.3 percent. [Low commodity prices are continuing to erode much-needed government revenue. Africa's top copper producer relies on its mining and smaller oil industry for most of its export earnings. Copper output slumped 14 percent in the first half of the year. Cobalt, the metal used in lithium-ion batteries, slid by 13 percent over the same period. The government has also slashed its budget by 22 percent in response to low commodity revenues. Mozambique is another country battling with low commodity prices. Nearly 4000 coal miners have lost their jobs in the past year, as mining firms such as Brazil's Vale scale back production. Vale operates an open cast coal mine in the north-west. It's let more than 2-thousand 3-hundred workers go so far. Mining firms say unless coal prices recover, further losses are inevitable. Taxes collected from mining companies declined in the first half of the year to a fraction of the government's target. Global prices of commodities have more than halved since June 2014, spurred on by a combination of weak demand, an oversupplied market, and a stronger dollar.

Congo has copious deposits of raw materials that are in high demand internationally but remains one of the poorest countries in the world. From colonisation, with the horrors of slavery and other atrocities, to a turbulent and equally brutal present in which militant groups control the mines, Congo’s richness in natural resources has brought nothing but misery. Referred to as “conflict minerals”, these riches leave only a trail of death, destruction and poverty. Under Belgian rule, Congolese labourers were often required to meet quotas when mining different minerals. Failure could mean punishment by having a hand cut off with a machete. The country gained independence in 1960, but that didn’t put a stop to slave and child labour or to crimes being committed to extract and exploit the minerals. Warring militant fractions from inside the country and beyond seized control of mines for their own benefit while terrorising local populations. For our translator, Bernard Kalume Buleri, his country’s history of turmoil is very personal; like most Congolese people, he and his family fell victim to the unending mineral based power struggle. Born in the year of his country’s independence, he has lived through war and seen his homeland torn apart by violent looting and greed. His story is a damning testament, illustrating how nature’s bounty, instead of being a blessing, becomes a deadly curse. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) cannot afford the cost of holding elections this year. According to Minister of State in charge of Budget, Pierre Kangudia Mbayi, the $1.8bn needed to organize the polls was out of reach. At a press conference held on Wednesday (February 15, 2017) the minister said he doubted if the DRC could raise the amount in time for polls to hold.
