A democratic republic is, strictly speaking, a country that is both a republic and a democracy. It is one where ultimate authority and power is derived from the citizens, and the government itself is run through elected officials.
However, in recent practice, countries that have described themselves as democratic republics have not always held free or fair elections. Two examples of this were the German Democratic Republic and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, communist states commonly known as East Germany and North Vietnam. Another is the Democratic Republic of the Congo which in 2011 was rated by Freedom House as a "not free" country, having a rating of 6.0 (1.0 being completely free and 7.0 being completely unfree). Also, the 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea', commonly known as North Korea, is rated the least democratic in the world, run by a dictator. A republic is a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote.

The Republic of the Congo (French: République du Congo), also known as Congo, Congo Republic,West Congo, or Congo-Brazzaville, is a country located in Central Africa. It is bordered by five countries: Gabon to the west; Cameroon to the northwest; the Central African Republic to the northeast; the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the east and south; and the Angolan exclave of Cabinda to the southwest.
The region was dominated by Bantu-speaking tribes, who built trade links leading into the Congo River basin. Congo-Brazzaville was formerly part of the French colony of Equatorial Africa. Upon independence in 1960, the former colony of French Congo became the Republic of the Congo. The People's Republic of the Congo was a Marxist–Leninist one-party state from 1970 to 1991. Multi-party elections have been held since 1992, although a democratically elected government was ousted in the 1997 Republic of the Congo Civil War and President Denis Sassou Nguesso has ruled for 26 of the past 36 years.
The term Congo may refer to two countries that border the Congo river:

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (/ˈkɒŋɡoʊ/; French pronunciation: [kɔ̃ɡo]; French: République démocratique du Congo), also known as DR Congo, DRC, DROC, RDC, Congo-Kinshasa, or simply Congo is a country located in Central Africa. From 1971 to 1997 it was named Zaïre. The DRC borders the Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan to the north; Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania to the east; Zambia and Angola to the south; and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It is the second largest country in Africa by area, the largest in Subsaharan Africa, and the eleventh largest in the world. With a population of over 75 million, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the most populated officially Francophone country, the fourth most populated nation in Africa and the nineteenth most populated country in the world.
The Congolese Civil Wars, which began in 1996, brought about the end of Mobutu Sese Seko's 31-year reign and devastated the country. The wars ultimately involved nine African nations, multiple groups of UN peacekeepers and twenty armed groups, and resulted in the deaths of 5.4 million people.
A republic (from Latin: res publica) is a sovereign state or country which is organised with a form of government in which power resides in elected individuals representing the citizen body and government leaders exercise power according to the rule of law. In modern times, the definition of a republic is commonly limited to a government which excludes a monarch. Currently, 147 of the world's 206 sovereign states use the word "republic" as part of their official names; not all of these are republics in the sense of having elected governments, nor do all nations with elected governments use the word "republic" in their names.
Both modern and ancient republics vary widely in their ideology and composition. In the classical and medieval period of Europe, many states were fashioned on the Roman Republic, which referred to the governance of the city of Rome, between it having kings and emperors. The Italian medieval and Renaissance political tradition, today referred to as "civic humanism", is sometimes considered to derive directly from Roman republicans such as Sallust and Tacitus. However, Greek-influenced Roman authors, such as Polybius and Cicero, sometimes also used the term as a translation for the Greek politeia which could mean regime generally, but could also be applied to certain specific types of regime which did not exactly correspond to that of the Roman Republic. Republics were not equated with classical democracies such as Athens, but had a democratic aspect.

Faced with a worsening economic crisis, the Democratic Republic of Congo has formally requested for international support, to help avert a serious catastrophe. The country has sent a formal letter to multiple international agencies, including the United Nations, the European Union and the African Union, requesting urgent funding. Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the inflation plagued Democratic Republic of Congo. While the Congolese government quits and IMF talks begin, the idea of fixing the economy without printing money is coming up as a possibility, but it's too little, too late. The IMF will simply force the people of Congo further into debt and poverty. Governments and central banks always turn to higher globalist powers to save themselves from the horrors of central planning and taking tips from globalist powers. It seems repetitive because it is and as the Hegelian Dialectic goes, it's problem, reaction, solution repeat and this will continue on to eternity as long as people don't understand the root problems. Congo has the 3rd highest inflation rate in the world wi...
Artisanal miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo say they are struggling to make a living, due to a global decline in commodities prices. Low metals prices have battered the DRC's economy since last year, forcing mining companies to suspend operations and shed thousands of jobs.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has cut its economic growth forecast for 2016 from 9 percent to 4.3 percent. [Low commodity prices are continuing to erode much-needed government revenue. Africa's top copper producer relies on its mining and smaller oil industry for most of its export earnings. Copper output slumped 14 percent in the first half of the year. Cobalt, the metal used in lithium-ion batteries, slid by 13 percent over the same period. The government has also slashed its budget by 22 percent in response to low commodity revenues. Mozambique is another country battling with low commodity prices. Nearly 4000 coal miners have lost their jobs in the past year, as mining firms such as Brazil's Vale scale back production. Vale operates an open cast coal mine in the north-west. It's le...

DR Congo is experiencing an economic crisis, the World Bank (WB) has warned in its 4th report on the monitoring of the economic and financial situation of the country presented on Tuesday in Kinshasa. The Congo Republic has inaugurated a $109 million hydroelectric dam constructed by China Gezhouba Group. The 19.9 megawatt dam in the northern town of Liouesso brings Congo's hydroelectric production to 214 megawatts, nearly half of total national power output. Oil currently accounts for about 65 percent of the central African country's GDP, but Congo is aiming to diversify its economy by increasing investments in infrastructure. The Liouesso dam is expected to give great productive capacity to the businesses set up in the region. The country's infrastructure minister, however, says the government is yet to find buyers for three-quarters of the dam's output. More films about Greece: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/greece/ Greece has been trying to stay afloat ever since the financial crisis began in late 2009 as the government battled low growth rates, soaring inflation as well as high budget and trade deficits. That’s when the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission, also known as the troika of lenders, stepped in. But that came with a price. To date the government has had to slash spending by over 75 billion euros. Education, welfare and healthcare saw deep cuts. People took to the streets as many lost their jobs, while others saw their pensions and salaries significantly decreased. To make matters worse Greeks were expected to contribute more since taxes and the overall cost of living went up. Homelessnes...

Today, Africa contains 54 sovereign countries, most of which have borders that were drawn during the era of European colonialism. Since colonialism, African states have frequently been hampered by instability, corruption, violence, and authoritarianism. However, few of them have been able to sustain democratic governments on a permanent basis, and many have instead cycled through a series of coups, producing military dictatorships. Great instability was mainly the result of margina...
