Timgad (called Thamugas or Thamugadi in old Berber) was a Roman colonial town in the Aurès Mountains of Algeria, founded by the Emperor Trajan around AD 100. The full name of the town was Colonia Marciana Ulpia Traiana Thamugadi. Trajan commemorated the city after his mother Marcia, eldest sister Ulpia Marciana, and father Marcus Ulpius Traianus.
Located in modern-day Algeria, about 35 km east of the town of Batna, the ruins are noteworthy for representing one of the best extant examples of the grid plan as used in Roman city planning.
The city was founded ex nihilo as a military colony by the emperor Trajan around AD 100. It was intended to serve primarily as a bastion against the Berbers in the nearby Aures Mountains. It was originally populated largely by Parthian veterans of the Roman army who were granted lands in return for years of service.
The city enjoyed a peaceful existence for the first several hundred years and became a center of Christian activity starting in the 3rd century, and a Donatist center in the 4th century.
A wilayah (ولاية in Arabic) or velâyat (ولایت in Persian), vilayet in Turkish or vilayat in Urdu), is an administrative division, usually translated as "province", or occasionally as "governorate". The word comes from the Arabic "w-l-y", "to govern": a wāli—"governor"—governs a wilayah, "that which is governed". Under the Caliphate, the term referred to any constituent near-sovereign state.
In Arabic, wilayah is used to refer to the states of the United States, and the United States of America as a whole is called "الولايات المتّحدة الأمريكية" (al-Wilāyāt al-Muttaḥidah al-Amrīkīyah) literally meaning "the American United States".
For Morocco which is divided into provinces and wilāyas the translation "province" would cause the distinction to cease. For Sudan the term state, and for Mauritania the term region is used.
The governorates of Iraq (muhafazah) are sometimes translated as province, in contrast to official Iraqi documents and the general use for other Arab countries. This conflicts somehow with the general translation for muhafazah (governorate) and wilāyah (province).
Khaled Hadj Ibrahim (Arabic: خالد حاج إبراهيم, born 29 February 1960), better known as Khaled, is an Algerian raï singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Sidi El Houari in Oran Province of Algeria. He began recording in his early teens under the name Cheb Khaled (الشاب خالد, Arabic for "Young Man" Khaled, as opposed to the traditionalist Sheikh elders) and has become the most internationally famous Algerian singer in the Arab world and across many continents. His popularity has earned him the unofficial title "King of Raï". His most famous songs are "Didi", "Aïcha" and "C'est la vie".
Khaled Hadj Ibrahim was born in 1960 in Oran's Eckmühl neighborhood. At the age of 14, he founded the Cinq Étoiles (Five Stars) band and started performing in nightclubs and during marriages.
In the 1980s, Khaled started producing and singing raï songs. He moved to France in 1986.
On 12 January 1995, Khaled married Samira Diabi, 27, with whom he has four daughters and one son.

Berbers and Arabs dominate the history of Algeria, but the country also has a splendid remnant of the Roman civilization. It is not very convenient to reach Timgad, but the grand spectacle of the town and fortification built there some two thousand years ago, makes the rigors of Algeria travel worthwhile. The entire area is about one thousand meters above sea level, so it is pleasant even during the hotter months. The countryside around Timgad is desolate, and serves as an object lesson for the benefits of conservation, for it was once a thriving eco-system. While some of the taller structures such as the famous victory arch strike the eye at first glance, it is the layout and planning of Timgad which is more impressive after one spends some time amidst the ruins. The spirits of the Berbe...

Timgad lies on the northern slopes of the Aurès mountains and was created ex nihilo as a military colony by the Emperor Trajan in AD 100. With its square enclosure and orthogonal design based on the cardo and decumanus, the two perpendicular routes running through the city, it is an excellent example of Roman town planning.

Timgad, located to the north of the massif of the Aurès in a mountainous site of great beauty, 480 km south-east of Algiers and 110 km to the south of Constantine, is a consummate example of a Roman military colony created ex nihilo. The Colonia Marciana Traiana Thamugadi was founded in 100 A.D. by Trajan, probably as an encampment for the 3rd Augustan Legion which, thereafter, was quartered at Lambaesis. Its plan, laid out with great precision, illustrates Roman urban ...

Lyrics: Laitinen
Obscuring mourning of blood
Powers of beyond oppress me
Death falls from dismal eternity
Slain souls shall scream forever
Bringing calm into my existence
I walk away from false belief
He who created my dreams
Shall now be forgotten
In my time of blasphemy
Thoughts of my darkened being
God has incured in pain
I struggle through trials
I have chosen my path
I travel into uttermost shades
Creatures are now awaken
In flames they shall tell
