Join us as we visit Kyiv (Київ) for the first time covering numerous attractions and things to do in the city of Kiev, Ukraine in this travel guide. Kiev city is a destination we didn't know much about prior to traveling to Ukraine. Arriving with fresh eyes it didn't take us long to fall in love with Kyiv. With incredible cathedrals, churches and monasteries to explore our days were busy and in terms of food we really enjoyed eating at traditional Ukrainian restaurants and sampling International food such as Georgian cuisine. Overall, we feel Kiev is one of the most underrated cities we've ever visited.

This week we’re showing you around Kiev, Ukraine. This was our first time travelling to the country, so we hardly knew what to expect, though we did have an inkling we’d find churches with onion domes, borsht on every menu, and very cheap prices, but that was it!
Well, we found some of that, but we also discovered a fascinating city with ornate architecture, massive Soviet monuments, a completely new cuisine, more churches and monasteries than we ever thought possible, and friendly people despite the language barrier.
The following is our travel guide to the city. Now let us share with you 20 things to do in Kiev on your next visit!
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Kiev! This was our first time travelling in Ukraine, but we were hooked right from the start.
This destination felt very underrated with few tourists around, yet we were surrounded by beautiful architecture, there were churches galore to visit, the cuisine was hearty and filling, and everything was super affordable.
If you are thinking of travelling to Kiev, we hope this video was able to give you a taste of what it’s like.

Kiev, Ukraine's capital, has seen more hardship over the past 100 years than any other city in Europe. Yet the city still stands proud on both sides of the banks of the river Dnipro.
For the past 45 days I've been studying Russian here. This film shows are some of the amazing people I've met and things I've seen over that period.
From hardworking normal citizens to great tourist attractions. From the sublime beaches along the river Dnipro to fantastic church art. These clips hopefully serves to give people and impression of what Kiev is truly like.
Kiev is paradise on earth during both summer and winter in terms of the open green spaces scattered all over the city. Towards the end of this film I go through some of the tragic history Kiev have suffered through and explain why this place deserves the title as Europe's greatest city.
As I did in my last movie I encourage people to visit Kiev or Ukraine for a holiday and spend money in the economy. Since then I've had my parents visit and they absolutely loved the city. They thought it was safe, beautiful and an extremely interesting part of Europe to wander around and explore in.
For first time visitors I recommend the Hotel Ukraina on Kreschatyk street. It's an old classic Soviet style hotel and used to be the most expensive hotel in Kiev during the days of the Soviet Union. The rooms are relatively modern and offer great value for money. The location of the hotel is also sublime.
As for time of year to visit Kiev, personally I love the winters when the city is covered in a thick layer of snow. If you can't handle minus 20 Celsius though, Ukraine's warmest months are June and July.

The Latin Quarter originated in 1837 according to the design of Vicenti Beretti, with splendid buildings such as the National Philharmonic and the Baroque Opera and Ballet Theatre that is a more recent building because the original burned down soon after its construction. A unique monument of architectural splendour and culture overlooks the upper town, Sofiysky Sobor Cathedral, that was modelled on the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The Orthodox Church is one of several mainstream Christian religions the most well known of which was established in Russia. The city’s river is affectionately known as Father Dnepr. It is large and an ancient trading route between the north and the Black Sea. The river flows beneath seven bridges that connect both sections of the city. The Babi Yar Memorial is located at the north western edge of the city in the once two and a half kilometre long and fifty metre deep Babi Yar Canyon. Today it is known as a place of gross inhumanity and is one of the biggest mass graves in history. A place of tragedy and contemplation. Following Independence, Kiev has been transformed. Kiev'deki ilk günümüzde ilk gece bulduğumuz pahalı hostelde kalmamak için meydanda başka bir hostel bulduk.
Fiyatı 12 tl ve odayı komple bize kapattılar genelev gibi hostel bulduk ama fazlasını aramadık..Binası ve içi çok muhteşem olmasa bile gayet merkezi oldu.
Bunun dışında kiev sokaklarında kiev turu attık yeni mekanlar ve sokaklar keşfettik.
Biz Ukrayna'yı oldukça çok sevdik.

Former Georgian President and Odessa Governor Mikheil Saakashvili was detained by Ukrainian security forces following a raid on his apartment in Kiev, Tuesday.
Earlier, Saakashvili threatened to jump off his apartment building roof as security services searched his home on Tuesday morning as part of a criminal investigation, before he was eventually brought down and detained.

The footage shows former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili threatening to jump off a roof in Kiev as Ukrainian police search his apartment, according to local media.
Law enforcement officials broke the door to Saakashvili’s apartment in central Kiev on Tuesday morning. Security forces searched the flat, while the former president of Georgia and ex-governor of Ukraine’s Odessa Region confined himself to the roof of the building.

Kiev (/ˈkiːɛf, -ɛv/) or Kyiv (Ukrainian: Київ [ˈkɪjiu̯]; Russian: Киев [ˈkʲiɪf]) is the capital and largest city of Ukraine, located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. The population in July 2013 was 7006284720000000000♠2,847,200 (though higher estimated numbers have been cited in the press), making Kiev the 8th largest city in Europe.
Kiev is an important industrial, scientific, educational, and cultural centre of Eastern Europe. It is home to many high-tech industries, higher education institutions and world-famous historical landmarks. The city has an extensive infrastructure and highly developed system of public transport, including the Kiev Metro.
The city's name is said to derive from the name of Kyi, one of its four legendary founders (see Name, below). During its history, Kiev, one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, passed through several stages of great prominence and relative obscurity. The city probably existed as a commercial centre as early as the 5th century. A Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, Kiev was a tributary of the Khazars, until seized by the Varangians (Vikings) in the mid-9th century. Under Varangian rule, the city became a capital of the Kievan Rus', the first East Slavic state. Completely destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1240, the city lost most of its influence for the centuries to come. It was a provincial capital of marginal importance in the outskirts of the territories controlled by its powerful neighbours; first the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, followed by Poland and Russia.

Ukraine (
i/juːˈkreɪn/; Ukrainian: Україна, tr. Ukraina [ukrɑˈjinɑ]) is a country in Eastern Europe,bordered by Russia to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland and Slovakia to the west, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. The territory of modern Ukraine has been inhabited since 32,000 BC. During the Middle Ages, the area was a key centre of East Slavic culture, with the powerful state of Kievan Rus' forming the basis of Ukrainian identity. Following its fragmentation in the 13th century, the territory was contested, ruled and divided by a variety of powers, including Lithuania, Poland, the Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. A Cossack republic emerged and prospered during the 17th and 18th centuries, but its territory was eventually split between Poland and the Russian Empire, and later submerged fully into Russia. Two brief periods of independence occurred during the 20th century, once near the end of World War I and another during World War II, but both occasions would ultimately see Ukraine's territories conquered and consolidated into a Soviet republic, a situation that persisted until 1991, when Ukraine gained its independence from the Soviet Union in the aftermath of its dissolution at the end of the Cold War.

Babi Yar
Babi Yar (Russian: Бабий Яр, Babiy Yar; Ukrainian: Бабин Яр, Babyn Yar) is a ravine in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and a site of massacres carried out by German forces and local collaborators during their campaign against the Soviet Union.
The most notorious and the best documented of these massacres took place from 29–30 September 1941, wherein 33,771 Jews were killed. The decision to kill all the Jews in Kiev was made by the military governor, Major-General Kurt Eberhard, the Police Commander for Army Group South, SS-Obergruppenführer Friedrich Jeckeln, and the Einsatzgruppe C Commander Otto Rasch. It was carried out by Sonderkommando 4a soldiers, along with the aid of the SD and SS Police Battalions backed by the local police. The massacre was the largest mass killing for which the Nazi regime and its collaborators were responsible during its campaign against the Soviet Union and is considered to be "the largest single massacre in the history of the Holocaust" to that particular date, surpassed only by Aktion Erntefest of November 1943 in occupied Poland with 42,000–43,000 victims and the 1941 Odessa massacre of more than 50,000 Jews in October 1941, committed by Romanian troops.

They thought it was safe, beautiful and an extremely interesting part of Europe to wander around and explore in. For first time visitors I recommend the Hotel Ukraina on Kreschatyk street. It's an old classic Soviet style hotel and used to be the most expensive hotel in Kiev during the days of the Soviet Union. The rooms are relatively modern and offer great value for money. The location of the hotel is also sublime. As for time of year to visit Kiev, personally I love the winters when the city is covered in a thick layer of snow. If you can't handle minus 20 Celsius though, Ukraine's warmest months are June and July. This week we’re showing you around Kiev, Ukraine. This was our first time travelling to the country, so we hardly knew what to expect, though we did have an inkling we’d find churches with onion domes, borsht on every menu, and very cheap prices, but that was it!
Well, we found some of that, but we also discovered a fascinating city with ornate architecture, massive Soviet monuments, a completely new cuisine, more churches and monasteries than we ever thought possible, and friendly people despite the language barrier.
The following is our travel guide to the city. Now let us share with you 20 things to do in Kiev on your next visit!

Kiev, Ukraine's capital, has seen more hardship over the past 100 years than any other city in Europe. Yet the city still stands proud on both sides of the banks of the river Dnipro.
For the past 45 days I've been studying Russian here. This film shows are some of the amazing people I've met and things I've seen over that period.
From hardworking normal citizens to great tourist attractions. From the sublime beaches along the river Dnipro to fantastic church art. These clips hopefully serves to give people and impression of what Kiev is truly like.
Kiev is paradise on earth during both summer and winter in terms of the open green spaces scattered all over the city. Towards the end of this film I go through some of the tragic history Kiev have suffered through and explain why this place deserves the title as Europe's greatest city.
As I did in my last movie I encourage people to visit Kiev or Ukraine for a holiday and spend money in the economy. Since then I've had my parents visit and they absolutely loved the city. They thought it was safe, beautiful and an extremely interesting part of Europe to wander around and explore in.
For first time visitors I recommend the Hotel Ukraina on Kreschatyk street. It's an old classic Soviet style hotel and used to be the most expensive hotel in Kiev during the days of the Soviet Union. The rooms are relatively modern and offer great value for money. The location of the hotel is also sublime.
As for time of year to visit Kiev, personally I love the winters when the city is covered in a thick layer of snow. If you can't handle minus 20 Celsius though, Ukraine's warmest months are June and July.

Bunun dışında kiev sokaklarında kiev turu attık yeni mekanlar ve sokaklar keşfettik.
Biz Ukrayna'yı oldukça çok sevdik.

Law enforcement officials broke the door to Saakashvili’s apartment in central Kiev on Tuesday morning. Security forces searched the flat, while the former president of Georgia and ex-governor of Ukraine’s Odessa Region confined himself to the roof of the building.

This week we’re showing you around Kiev, Ukraine. This was our first time travelling to the country, so we hardly knew what to expect, though we did have an inkling we’d find churches with onion domes, borsht on every menu, and very cheap prices, but that was it!
Well, we found some of that, but we also discovered a fascinating city with ornate architecture, massive Soviet monuments, a completely new cuisine, more churches and monasteries than we ever thought possible, and friendly people despite the language barrier.
The following is our travel guide to the city. Now let us share with you 20 things to do in Kiev on your next visit!

This destination felt very underrated with few tourists around, yet we were surrounded by beautiful architecture, there were churches galore to visit, the cuisine was hearty and filling, and everything was super affordable.

Kiev, Ukraine's capital, has seen more hardship over the past 100 years than any other city in Europe. Yet the city still stands proud on both sides of the banks of the river Dnipro.
For the past 45 days I've been studying Russian here. This film shows are some of the amazing people I've met and things I've seen over that period.
From hardworking normal citizens to great tourist attractions. From the sublime beaches along the river Dnipro to fantastic church art. These clips hopefully serves to give people and impression of what Kiev is truly like.
Kiev is paradise on earth during both summer and winter in terms of the open green spaces scattered all over the city. Towards the end of this film I go through some of the tragic history Kiev have suffered through and explain why this place deserves the title as Europe's greatest city.
As I did in my last movie I encourage people to visit Kiev or Ukraine for a holiday and spend money in the economy. Since then I've had my parents visit and they absolutely loved the city. They thought it was safe, beautiful and an extremely interesting part of Europe to wander around and explore in.
For first time visitors I recommend the Hotel Ukraina on Kreschatyk street. It's an old classic Soviet style hotel and used to be the most expensive hotel in Kiev during the days of the Soviet Union. The rooms are relatively modern and offer great value for money. The location of the hotel is also sublime.
As for time of year to visit Kiev, personally I love the winters when the city is covered in a thick layer of snow. If you can't handle minus 20 Celsius though, Ukraine's warmest months are June and July.

As I did in my last movie I encourage people to visit Kiev or Ukraine for a holiday and spend money in the economy. Since then I've had my parents visit and they absolutely loved the city. They thought it was safe, beautiful and an extremely interesting part of Europe to wander around and explore in.
For first time visitors I recommend the Hotel Ukraina on Kreschatyk street. It's an old classic Soviet style hotel and used to be the most expensive hotel in Kiev during the days of the Soviet Union. The rooms are relatively modern and offer great value for money. The location of the hotel is also sublime.
As for time of year to visit Kiev, personally I love the winters when the city is covered in a thick layer of snow. If you can't handle minus 20 Celsius though, Ukraine's warmest months are June and July.

Kiev's most famous historical architecture complexes are the St. Sophia Cathedral and the Kiev Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves), which are recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Noteworthy historical architectural landmarks also include the Mariyinsky Palace (designed and constructed from 1745 to 1752, then reconstructed in 1870), several Orthodox churches such as St. Michael's Cathedral, St. Andrew's, St. Vladimir's, the reconstructed Golden Gate and others.
One of Kiev's widely recognized modern landmarks is the highly visible giant Mother Motherland statue made of titanium standing at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War on the Right bank of the Dnieper River. Other notable sites is the cylindrical Salut hotel, located across from Glory Square and the eternal flame at the World War Two memorial Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the House with Chimaeras.

Local public transportation in Kiev includes the Metro (underground), buses and minibuses, trolleybuses, trams, taxi and funicular. There is also an intra-city ring railway service.

The name if topic seems like the name of my blog, But anyway, a lot of guys ask me "What to visit in Ukraine?", "Which place do you suggest to visit in Ukraine", so I decided to write this article and describe shortly al places which you can visit. And you can choose just the most attractive for you.
First of all you need to understand that Ukraine is very big and there are a lot of different places. I mean that there are wooden mountains, Black sea, Asovian sea, big cities, small cities, villages, lakes, kind of desert.... So for people who love mountains, skiing, hiking, I can suggest one places, and for people who love big cities and architecture - another places. Anyway, now I am going to gice you some ideas what to visit in Ukraine
Kyiv
Of course in any country you need to visit the capital. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv. What to visit in Kyiv?
St.Michael Cathedral, St. Sophia Cathedral. Those two Cathedrals are 1000 years old, they are one of the best cathedral's I've ever seen. If you have never been in orthodox churches, you definitely need ot visit them. St. Michaels cathedral has free entrance, but for Sophia you will need to pay around 5$. Both of them are located in downtown, not far from each other.

Andrew's Descent. This is very historical and famous street in Kyiv. If you love architecture - this place must be the first in your list. But even if you are not interested in architecture so much, there are a lot of street sellers and you can buy some souvenirs, pictures, interesting gifts for your friends. It's street of theatres, restaurants, museums.
Peyzazhna Alleya (Kyiv Fashion Park). Very creative and unique place in Kyiv. There are so many creative modern sculptures. Great place to take a cool pictures. And also you will have opportunity to see the downtown of Kyiv from the high point. It's located near Andrew's Descent.
Museum of WW2. This museum has a very big territory, so you can walking just outside. The most important destination - The statue of Mother Motherland - one of the highest statue in the world. Also you can visit museum inside and find a lot of interesting things, if you are interested in war topic.
Shevchenko Park. It's a great park in the downtown. There are a lot of interesting art things, like benches, statues etc.. In warm season there are lot of people, children, students.. It's great place to relax, make new friends, have a rest and enjoy Kyiv.
Vozdvyzhenka. This is historical area in the downtown, which was totally rebuilt 10 years ago. You can see totally new houses in style of 19 century of Kyiv. You can feel the spirit of old Kyiv, take an awesome pictures and relax in the summer, because this place is surrounded by wooden hills.
Arsenalna subway station. This is the deepest subway station in the world. I would suggest you to visit all subway station in downtown and see how do the look. You pay just once when you enter to the subway and you can spent even the whole day there. So if you have a lot of time and don't have a lot of money - you can enjoy Kyiv's subway.
Arch of Friendship of Nations. Very famous place located in the downtown of Kyiv with great view into the Dnipro river.
Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra - one of the oldest church in Kyiv, with very luxurious interior.
Botanique garden. It's a very big park in Kyiv with a great view into old city and Dnipro river. But the best time to visit it is spring, summer and early fall.
Mamaeva sloboda. It's green park with elements of Ukrainian folk houses, churches.
Pyrogiv. Museum near the Kyiv where you can see all traditional houses of Ukrainians from different region. You can see people in national clothes and try Ukrainian national food.
Mystetsky Arsenal. Art gallery where you can always find some interesting exhibition and spend 3-4 hours educating yourself.
Mariinsky park. Great place in the downtown which looks so good in the green time.
Dream Town. This is huge shopping center where every section is built in different style: Chinese with Chinese restaurant, Italian with Italian restaurants, Brazilian, French, Japanese etc...
Ocean plaza. It's shopping mall with the huge aquarium inside. Some people say that it's the biggest in Europe.
Lavina mall. The biggest shopping mall in Ukraine with singing fountains inside, with entertainment park and thousands of shops and restaurants.

I'm here to talk to you today why Ukraine is completely safe to visit, and especially so if you're just going to be spending your time in the more touristy cities such as Kiev, Lviv, and Odessa.
Yes, there is currently an ongoing conflict in the far Eastern part of the country but when it comes to tourism this has no impact on overall safety in the bigger cities much further West.
To put it in perspective, Kiev, which is a popular tourist city in Ukraine, is nearly 700km away from where much of the conflict is currently underway.
Lviv, in the Western part of the country, is just 80km from the Polish border and more than 1,000 km away from any "problem" areas.
It would be like not visiting Toronto or New York City because of problems in Detroit or Chicago.
Ukraine is completely safe to visit and unless you go looking for trouble it's unlikely you're going to experience any issues during your trip.
