Southern Nevada (often abbreviated as SNV) is the region of Nevada which includes the Las Vegas Valley. Southern Nevada also includes the areas in and around Tonopah, Hawthorne, Pahrump, and Pioche. Geographically, Southern Nevada is partly, and in some cases, fully within the Mojave Desert. The population of the region, as measured by the 2000 U.S. Census, is 1,432,004, though the Las Vegas Valley has now increased to over 2,000,000 itself.
A major part of Southern Nevada's economy is based on tourism, including gambling. The primary drivers of the Las Vegas economy have been the confluence of tourism, gaming, and conventions which in turn feed the retail and dining industries. The city serves as world headquarters for the world's two largest Fortune 500 gaming companies, Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage.
Tourism also benefits the areas around Pahrump, which as served as a bedroom community of Las Vegas. Prostitution is also legal in areas of Southern Nevada, outside of Clark County.
Nevada (Spanish for "snow covered") is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern regions of the United States of America. Nevada is the 7th most extensive, the 35th most populous, and the 9th least densely populated of the 50 United States. Nearly three-quarters of Nevada's people live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area where three of the state's four largest incorporated cities are located. Nevada's capital is Carson City. Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" due to the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State", because it achieved statehood during the Civil War (the words "Battle Born" also appear on the state flag); as the "Sagebrush State", for the native plant of the same name; and as "Sage hen State". Nevada borders Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, California to the west, Arizona to the southeast and Utah to the east.
Nevada is largely desert and semiarid, much of it located within the Great Basin. Areas south of the Great Basin are located within the Mojave Desert, while Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada lie on the western edge. About 86% of the state's land is managed by various jurisdictions of the U.S. federal government, both civilian and military.

Recently I spent a day in the desert of southern Nevada around the towns of Searchlight and Nelson. This video shows highlights of some of the many abandoned mines there such as the Chief of the Hills Mines, the Jubilee Mine, the Black Hawk Mine, the Carnation Mine, the Techatticup Mine, and a few unnamed mines.
Prices are up nearly 1 percent from January and almost 9 percent from a year ago.
See full blog post - http://www.loveyourrv.com/return-whitney-pockets-southern-nevada/ In this video, I show you Whitney Pockets as a storm is passing through. we were out photographing and a short sunny break happened which lit up the colorful sandstone and green desert surroundings. We were lucky to visit when the Joshua Trees were in bloom. Whitney Pockets is a free BLM camp spot located about 30 miles from Mesquite, Nevada on the Gold Butte Backcountry Byway. Getting there is a bit of a chore involving a bumpy drive of 20 miles on a very rough and sometimes curvy asphalt roadway. It's well worth it though to get off the beaten path and enjoy the amazing scenery found here. ----------------------------------- Follow our RVing adventures at http://www.loveyourrv.com and http://rvhap...

I shot this video from my backyard in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas, Nevada on the night of January 8, 2017. The end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 have been strange here in Las Vegas. I don't remember a time where we had so much wind and rain. Between November of 2016 and now I have only had a few opportunities to get outside to do some skywatching and last night was one of them. I got video from Nellis, Henderson and a short night vision clip from the Blue Diamond Hills and the Southern Valley. This video is just Nellis. In parts of the video, you can see it hasn't been very warm here because you can see heat waves from somebody's home distorting the objects I am filming. I didn't speed this video up at all so that you could witness these incredible objects just like I do. When one...

Most visitors spend their time in Yosemite Valley, which despite being only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, packs in more jaw-dropping scenery than just about any other place on Earth. Near the valley entrance stop at Tunnel View, and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. From Tunnel View it’s just a short drive to Bridalveil Fall. Fed by snowmelt, the fall reaches its thundering peak in May. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring r...
