Paraguay (/ˈpærəɡwaɪ/; Spanish: [paɾaˈɣwai]; Guarani: Paraguái [paɾaˈɣwaj]), officially the Republic of Paraguay (Spanish: República del Paraguay, Guarani: Tetã Paraguái), is a landlocked country in central South America, bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest. Paraguay lies on both banks of the Paraguay River, which runs through the center of the country from north to south. Due to its central location in South America, it is sometimes referred to as Corazón de Sudamérica ("Heart of South America").
The indigenous Guaraní had been living in Paraguay for at least a millennium before the Spanish conquered the territory in the 16th century. Spanish settlers and Jesuit missions introduced Christianity and Spanish culture to the region. Paraguay was a peripheral colony of the Spanish Empire, with few urban centers and settlers. Following independence from Spain in 1811, Paraguay was ruled by a series of dictators who generally implemented isolationist and protectionist policies.
Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Asunción (Spanish pronunciation: [asunˈsjon], Guarani: Paraguay) is the capital and largest city of Paraguay.
The Ciudad de Asunción is an autonomous capital district not part of any department. The metropolitan area, called Gran Asunción, includes the cities of San Lorenzo, Fernando de la Mora, Lambaré, Luque, Mariano Roque Alonso, Ñemby, San Antonio, Limpio, Capiatá and Villa Elisa, which are part of the Central Department. The Asunción metropolitan area has more than 2 million inhabitants. The Municipality of Asunción is listed on the Asunción Stock Exchange, as BVPASA: MUA, a unique feature of any city.
It is the home of the national government, principal port, and the chief industrial and cultural centre of the country.
Asunción is one of the oldest cities in South America and the longest continually inhabited area in the Rio de la Plata Basin; for this reason that it is known as "Mother of Cities". It was from Asunción that the colonial expeditions departed to found other cities, including the second foundation of Buenos Aires and of other important cities such as Villarrica, Corrientes, Santa Fe and Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
South America is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also considered as a subcontinent of the Americas, which is the model used in Spanish-speaking nations and most of South America.
It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. It includes twelve sovereign states – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela – and two non-sovereign areas – French Guiana, an overseas department of France, and the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory (though disputed by Argentina). In addition to this, the ABC islands of the Netherlands and Trinidad and Tobago may also be considered part of South America.
South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq mi). Its population as of 2005 has been estimated at more than 371,090,000. South America ranks fourth in area (after Asia, Africa, and North America) and fifth in population (after Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America). The most populous countries are Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela and Peru.

Learn how I made a killing teaching ESL abroad and retired early to South America. http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com I get a lot of requests to show some footage of where I live. I chose to relocate to Paraguay because of tax advantages, low cost of living, great weather, awesome people, and basically because I'd always dreamed of living here. Paraguay is literally the heart of South America and you can be to most any major city on the continent by air within 2 hours. For this reason, many major companies are relocating here and there are some very exciting investments.

Paraguay Travel Video - Paraguay is a country of fascinating contrasts. Its rustic and sophisticated. Its extremely poor and obscenely wealthy. It boasts exotic natural reserves and massive man-made dams. It is a place where horses and carts pull up by Mercedes Benz cars, artisans workshops abut glitzy shopping centers and Jesuit ruins in rural villages near Encarnación are just a few kilometers from sophisticated colonial towns like Asunción. Steamy subtropical rainforests with metallic butterflies contrast with the dry and wild frontier of Northern Paraguay the Chaco. Here, many Mennonites have created their haven, living alongside some of the countrys many indigenous groups, while the European influence is particularly strong in the laid-back towns like Filadelfia and the more chaotic...

Little-visited, little-known Paraguay is a country much misunderstood. Despite its location at the heart of the continent, it is all too often passed over by travelers who wrongly assume that a lack of mega-attractions means there's nothing to see. But it's ideal for those keen to get off the gringo trail for a truly authentic South American experience. Paraguay is a country of remarkable contrasts: it's rustic and sophisticated; it's extremely poor and obscenely wealthy; it boasts exotic natural reserves and massive human-made dams; it is a place where horses and carts pull up alongside Mercedes-Benz vehicles, artisans' workshops abut glitzy shopping centers, and Jesuit ruins in rural villages lie just a few kilometers from sophisticated colonial towns. http://www.expedia.com/Iguazu.d6126331.Destination-Travel-Guides Iguazu Falls is located at the junction of three nations: Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. These “Great Waters,” as named by the indigenous Guarani people, are made up of 275 waterfalls that span nearly 2 miles. Sorry, Niagara! Any Iguazu Falls tour will provide you with a sense of nature’s power and wonder. You can follow a boardwalk trail and take in the majestic, roaring falls from a safe vantage point…or, if you feel daring, a platform above the falls. Look down, but hang on to the railing—that’s a lot of water pouring beneath you. Don’t mind getting wet? Take a speedboat safari beneath the falls and enjoy the spray. Prefer to stay dry? A helicopter ride over the falls might be for you. From up high, the falls form a t...
Not many people think about Paraguay. It's amazing and the local people are very friendly. It is very easy to travel around and visit Brazil and Argentina by car to visit the Iguazu Falls, Iguazú Falls, Iguassu Falls, one of the seven wonders in the world. Also nice to visit The Itaipu Dam's hydroelectric power plant produced the most energy of any in the world, setting a new world record in 2016. This is also a (man-made world wonder) If you like horse back riding make sure to stay at the "estancia aventura paraguay" managed by a very friendly German lady and a Swiss Gentleman. While in Paraguay do not miss to drink a Terere (el tereré es la bebida oficial del Paraguay). Fry direct from Panama City.
ever seen someone from a distance and thought they might be a hot chick but when u get close they are actually an 80yr old toothless man with a machine gun? if you enjoyed that experience, you´ll love paraguay! daryl gets a chance to take his new australia boxer shorts out for some fresh air...* * no offence meant to the people of paraguay who i'm sure are absolutely lovely! this is obviously nothing more than an ignorant 1st impression by scared a foreign tourist! If you're an inexperienced traveller i stand by my recomendation that there are better places to find yourself!
