"The diversity of India is unique. The 'real' India outside the mega cities still has its own uniqueness with different cultures and languages which should be part of the Indian cinema as well - and should be communicated. This has started to happen, but the uniqueness is still not realized very much outside India," explains the Indian film director Umesh Kulkami in this video-clip.
Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni is a Marathi film director. He is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Born in 1976 in Pune. He received a National Film Award for Best Film in 2010.

After achieving filmmaking's highest honour in the country for Deool, Umesh Kulkarni has now ventured into ad filmmaking and will be exclusively directing Ad films for Blue Drop Films Private Limited.
An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Umesh is known for Marathi films such as Valu (The Wild Bull), Vihir (The Well) and Deool (The Temple). Kulkarni also directed notable short films such as Girni, Three of Us, Vilay and Gaarud. Girni won the National Film Award for the Best Non Feature Film.
Valu, released in January 2008 was featured in the Berlin film festival.
Vihir was featured in Berlin film festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival 2010, Holland.
Deool won the 2011 National Award for Best Feature Film.

Umesh Kulkarni was born on 6 December 1976 in Pune to Vinayak and Vishakha Kulkarni. He has done graduation in commerce from BMCC, Pune, besides acquiring a Law degree. He joined FTII Pune in February 2000.
Career
Kulkarni also directed notable short films such as Girni, Three of Us, Vilay and Gaarud.

Girni won the National Film Award for the Best Non Feature Film. Valu, released in January 2008 was featured in the Berlin film festival. Girish Kulkarni
Girish Pandurang Kulkarni is a National Award winning Indian film actor, writer, and producer. He is known for Marathi films such as Valu (The Wild Bull), Vihir (The Well), Deool (The Temple) and Gabhricha Paus (The Damned Rain). His latest release is the Hindi film Ugly.
Personal life
Girish Kulkarni was born in the Paranda Taluka of Osmanabad District and he was brought up in Pune. He pursued his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from PLGPL, Latur. While studying in Latur, he was involved in local stage plays. Post his graduation, he worked for private engineering companies for a while but soon enough, he decided to follow his passion and pursue a career in writing.
Career
Before starting his cinematic career, Girish Kulkarni was working with Radio Mirchi as a Cluster Programming Head. He enjoys creating stories inspired by his observations, and many of the characters he writes reflect authentic village people. Valu, released in 2008, was a light, enjoyable movie portraying various stereotypical characters found in an Indian village through the simple story of a wild bull which needs to be captured.

This has started to happen, but the uniqueness is still not realized very much outside India," explains the Indian film director Umesh Kulkami in this video-clip.
Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni is a Marathi film director. He is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Born in 1976 in Pune. He received a National Film Award for Best Film in 2010.

Plot Summary:
Umesh (Jitendra Simon), a serial killer, is in jail. Two students from an American university, Sapna (Viola Mathew) and Samantha (Neelopher), land in the city to do research on serial killers. Samantha begins to show interest in Umesh and he ends up falling in love with her. This is one part of the story. The second part has the rapist escaping from jail and killing a woman. The two students are given extra security by DCP Nagaraj (Joe Simon). However, Umesh manages to kidnap Samantha from the police guest house and take her into a forest. Meanwhile, cops launch a manhunt for him. more

In the rural areas of Maharashtra lies a peaceful village called Mangrul. One day Keshav (Girish Kulkarni), a village youth, sees lord Dattatrey (Datta) in his dreams while taking a nap under a tree. He makes a hue and cry in the village saying God made an appearance for him. Anna (Dilip Prabhavalkar), most respected figure of Mangrul, advises him against announcing such personal matter as it's a question of faith. However, it is too late as a journalist (Kishor Kadam) sensationalizes the news about Lord Dattatrey making an appearance in Mangrul. There is now a demand for a Dattatrey temple. Bhau (Nana Patekar), a political activist, doesn't approve it as he wants the funds to be used for better purposes but he seems helpless. The temple is built and the village becomes a holy place. Mangrul goes through a 360 degree change due to commercialization but nobody is complaining except Anna. Soon, blinded by the commercial progress, God is forgotten.
Every village has a right to progress commercially but how ethical it is to use a temple and its God to achieve it? The question is raised by Writer Girish Kulkarni & Director Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni's latest offering 'Deool', without being judgemental.
